  • This article describes the characteristics of nondispersive infrared carbon dioxide gas sensor according to the temperatures and humidifies. In this researches, a thermopile sensor that included application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) was used and the White-cell structure was implemented as an optical waveguide. The developed sensor modules were installed in gas chamber and then the temperature of gas chamber has been increased from 283 K to 313 K with 10K temperature step. In order to analyze the effects of humidity levels, the relative humidity levels were changed from 30 to 80%R.H. with small humidifier. Then, the characteristics of sensor modules were acquired with the increment of carbon dioxide concentrations from 0 to 2,000 ppm. When the initial voltages of sensors were compared before and after humidifying the chamber at constant temperature, the decrements of the output voltages of sensors are like these: 9mV (reference infrared sensor), 41 mV (carbon dioxide sensor), 2 mV (temperature sensor). With the increment of ambient temperature, the averaged output voltage of carbon dioxide sensor was increased 19 mV, however, when the humidity level was increased, it was decreased 14mV. Based upon the experimental results, the humidity effect could be alleviated by the increment of temperature, so the effects of humidity and temperature could be only compensated by the ambient temperature itself. The estimated carbon dioxide concentrations showed 10% large errors below 200 ppm, however, the errors of the estimations of carbon dioxide concentrations were less than ${\pm}5%$ from 400 to 2,000 ppm.

  • An analysis using a statistical method is generally used to determine the effective temperature based on the temperature design load of a bridge. In this study, the effective temperature was calculated by building an artificial neural network (ANN) capable of improving the statistical method. A Steel box girder bridge specimen was made with a width of 2.0 m, height of 2.0 m, and length of 3.0 m and 0.2 m the upper slab. Twenty one temperature gauges were attached to measure the temperature between 2014 and 2016 for three years. An ANN was learned using the data measured from 2014~2015 and the results were compared with the Euro codes. The error rate between the Euro code and statistical analysis values was analyzed to be 4.1 % for the total measurement point. The ANN was verified and the effective bridge temperatures were calculated using the temperature data measured in 2016. The results revealed an approximate 3.97 % difference from the statistical analysis values. This degree of error is considered to be acceptable in terms of engineering for the analysis of an ANN. An ANN can easily predict the effective temperature of a bridge by knowing the input values of the region's highest temperature, bridge type, and upper asphalt thickness when designing the bridge's temperature loads.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the cocoon reeling condiditions required to technical balance work on the automatic silk reeling machine. The results obtained were as follows. 1) Reasonable reeling velocity with regard to raw silk yield and to reeling efficiency varied according to cocoon reelability. It was observed to be about 150m/min on good reelability cocoon (850m of nonbreaking bave length), about 120m/min on medium reelability cocoon (650m of nonbreaking bave length) and from 90m/min to 120m/min on bad reelability cocoon (500m of nonbreaking bave length) 2) Low temperature drying of cocoon (T$_3$) improved the reelability of cocoon, but increased the reeling accidance with deteriorating the quality of raw silk more than the control(T$_1$) or high temperature drying of cocoon (T$_2$). No significant difference was observed in its raw silk yield and silk by-product with regard to cocoon drying temperature. 3) Incomplete drying of cocoon (T$_3$) improved the reelability of cocoon, but increased the reeling accidance with deteriorating the quality of raw silk more than the control(T$_1$) or over drying of cocoon(T$_2$). No significant difference was observed in its raw silk yield and silk by-product with regard to cocoon drying degree. It was cocoon drying condition of cocoon was the control(T$_1$) or high temperature(T$_2$) rather than low temperature (T$_3$) in cocoon drying process. Control (T$_1$) or over drying of cocoon (T$_2$) was adequate rather than incomplete drying of cocoon (T$_3$) for the improvement of the quality of raw silk on the automatic silk reeling process. 4) It was found that the reasonable cooking condition of cocoon was optimum cooking with 4$0^{\circ}C$ of reeling temperature or incomplete cooking with 45$^{\circ}C$ of the reeling temperature in the automatic silk reeling of the domestic cocoon.

  • Low temperature variation of electrical characteristics for AlGaN/GaN/HEMT was studied. To investigate the effect of temperatures, transistor was cool down to $-178^{\circ}C$ and electrical characteristics were measured. The drain current density of an AlGaN/GaN HEMT with a gate length of $2{\mu}m$ was increased from 264 mA/mm to 388 mA/mm and the maximum transconductance was increased from 105 mS/mm to 134 mS/mm by decreasing the temperature to $-108^{\circ}C$. Also, the threshold voltage was shifted -0.39 V with the temperature. The reason for the variations was seemed to the reduced channel resistance corresponding to the temperature. However, most of the variation of the electrical characteristics takes places above $-108^{\circ}C$.

  • We investigated Soil respiration in Bluepine forest of western Bhutan, in relation to soil temperature, moisture content and soil pH and it was aimed at establishing variability in space and time. The Bluepine forest thrives in the typical shallow dry valleys in the inter-montane Bhutan Himalaya, which is formed by ascending wind from the valley bottom, which carries moisture from the river away to the mountain ridges. Stratified random sampling was applied and the study site was classified into top, mid, low slope and further randomized sample of n=20 from 30 m×30 m from each altitude. The overall soil respiration mean for the forest was found 2248.17 CO2 g yr-1 and it is ~613.58 C g yr-1. The RS from three sites showed a marginal variation amongst sites, lower slope (2,309 m) was 4.64 μ mol m-2 s-1, mid slope (2,631 m) was 6.78 μ mol m-2 s-1 and top slope (3,027 m) was 6.33 μ mol m-2 s-1 and mean of 5.92 μ mol m-2 s-1, SE=0.25 for the forest. Temporal distribution and variations were observed more pronounced than in the space variation. Soil respiration was found highest during March and lowest in September. Soil temperature had almost inverse trend against soil respiration and dropped a low in February and peak in July. The moisture in the soil changed across months with precipitation and pH remained almost consistent across the period. The soil respiration and soil temperature had significant relationship R2=-0.61, p=0.027 and other variables were found insignificant. Similar relationship are reported for dry season in a tropical forest soil respiration. Soil temperature was found to have most pronounced effect on the soil respiration of the forest under study.

  • Climatological trend for the period of 1970 to 2009 in sea water temperature around the Antarctic Peninsular waters in the Southern Ocean was investigated. During the period from 1970 to 2009, sea water temperature in the top 500 m water column except 100 m increased at a rate of $0.003-0.011^{\circ}C{\cdot}yr^{-1}$, but at 100 m it decreased at a rate of $-0.003^{\circ}C{\cdot}yr^{-1}$. Although long-term trend is generally warming, there were several periods of sharp changes between 1970 and 2009. Annual mean sea water temperature between surface and 500 m except 100 m decreased from the early of 1970s to the end of 1980s, and then it increased to the end of 2000s. In the entire water column between the surface and 500 m, sea water temperature closely correlated with the El Nino events expressed as the Southern Oscillation Index(SOI), and SOI and sea water temperature have a dominant period of about 3-5 years and decade.

  • Sodium pyrophosphate that melting point is $79-80^{\circ}C$ have been Studied on heat storage and heat discharge. In heat storage process, sodium pyrophosphate was kept up initial temperature $50^{\circ}C,\;60^{\circ}C,\;70^{\circ}C$ which melt by heated water at temperature $85^{\circ}C,\;90^{\circ}C,\;95^{\circ}C$. In heat discharge process, initial temperature of sodium pyrophosphate was maintained at temperature $85^{\circ}C,\;90^{\circ}C,\;95^{\circ}C$ which varied cooling temperature $50^{\circ}C,\;60^{\circ}C,\;70^{\circ}C$. The experiment has been reached conclusions as follows. 1) Heat transfer properties of phase change material is controlled by conduction during heating and cooling process. 2) The temperature increased rapidly at initial stage and transient region increase slowly because of characteristic of latent heat. 3) The lower cooling water temperature is the less the time that get to thermal equivalent state take during discharge process. 4) The higher cooling water temperature is the less temperature difference between top and bottom in P.C.M during discharge process.

  • It is observed that an appreciable short-circuit current (Is) flows by the time variation of temperature without applying external field in M1(metal)-P(polymer)-M2(metal)system. In M1-P-M2(A1) system, Is flows in the direction from the electrode(A1) having a lower workfunction to the counter electrode(M1) during heating and its magnitude increases as the thickness of polymer is decreased and as the heating rate is raised. The sign of Is is reversed in lower temperature region (under glass transition temperature) when the direction of temerature variation is changed during heating and cooling. From these experimental results, we can sugest that Is flows in the external short-circuit during the space charge distribution formed around both interfacial surfaces (M1-P and P-M2) is continuously maintained in the non-equilibrium state but not in equilibrium state.

  • Sintering behaviors of the glass-alumina composites for low firing temperature were investigated as a function of the particle size of glass frit. The system of glass frit was Pb-B-Si-Al-O. The median particle sizes of the glass frits were 2.72$\mu\textrm{m}$, 2.67$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.33$\mu\textrm{m}$, which were prepared with changing ball-milling times as 24 h, 48 h and 96 h. The glass-alumina composites showed maximum density at certain temperature, and further heating led to dedensification behaviors, so called over-firing. The sintering temperature, which showed maximum density, raised from 425$^{\circ}C$ to 475$^{\circ}C$ with increase of particle size of glass frit from 1.33$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 2.72$\mu\textrm{m}$. Especially, the over firing behaviors, which were occurred at high sintering temperatures, were greatly increased with decrease of particle size of glass frit.

  • The structural phase transformations of $0.7Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.3PbTiO_3$ (PMN-0.3PT) were studied using high resolution x-ray diffraction (HRXRD) as a function of temperature and electric field. A phase transformational sequence of cubic (C)${\rightarrow}$tetragonal (T)${\rightarrow}$rhombohedral (R) phase was observed in zero-field-cooled conditions; and a $C{\rightarrow}T{\rightarrow}$monoclinic $(M_C){\rightarrow}$ monoclinic ($M_A$) phase was observed in the field-cooled conditions. The transformation of T to $M_A$ phase was realized through an intermediate $M_C$ phase. The results also represent conclusive and direct evidence of a $M_C$ to $M_A$ phase transformation in field-cooled conditions. Beginning from the zero-field-cooled condition, a $R{\rightarrow}M_A{\rightarrow}M_C{\rightarrow}T$ phase transformational sequence was found with an increasing electric field at a fixed temperature. Upon removal of the field, the $M_A$ phase was stable at room temperature. With increasing the field, the transformation temperature from T to $M_C$ and from $M_C$ to $M_A$ phase decreased, and the phase stability ranges of both T and $M_C$ phases increased. Upon removal of the field, the phase transformation from R to $M_A$ phase was irreversible, but from $M_A$ to $M_C$ was reversible, which means that $M_A$ is the dominant phase under the electric field. In the M phase region, the results confirmed that lattice parameters and tilt angles were weakly temperature dependent over the range of investigated temperatures.
