  • Water content of subgrade soil in water supply systems has a large effect on performance. Many researchers lately make use of time-domain reflectometry (TDR) probes to measure the soil water content of subgrade soil from monitoring. The laboratory calibration test of TDR probe should be performed with soil field, because TDR probe can cause an error by type, gradation, density, and temperature of soil. This study shows the laboratory calibration test using TDR CS616, TDR-P3, TDR-T3. The calibration equations of TDR were then proposed. It was confirmed from the study that the data of TDR probe monitored in field could be used to estimate the freezing, unfrozen water content, and matric suction of soil.

  • This study focused on the role of active knowledge seeking (knowledge browsing and knowledge searching) in the context of virtual community of interest. Knowledge seeking is rarely studied as an antecedent in knowledge management (KM) research. Active knowledge seeking is considered as antecedents of sense of virtual community which mediates to knowledge sharing intention and virtual community promotion. Research hypotheses are tested by applying structure equation modeling with survey data from virtual community members in South Korea. Active knowledge seeking behavior was found to be the strong predictor of sense of virtual community, which, in turn, positively affects knowledge sharing intention and virtual community promotion. Implication to practitioners is to understand and accommodate the members' knowledge seeking efforts, who are potential contributors and promoters of the virtual community. Knowledge seeking, knowledge sharing and promoting virtual community are more of human activities than technology and this study extends the understanding of such human activities. By providing a mechanism of how knowledge seeking and sharing could work harmoniously, a virtuous circle with win-win situation could be achieved in virtual communities.

  • In this paper, an isogeometric analysis for multipatch problem is investigated, in which two or more geometries are connected at the interface in a conforming or non-conforming conditions. To express higher continuity at the patch interface, two approaches such as Nitsche based method and master-slave method are formulated for the linear elasticity problem and discretized using the isogeometric approach using NURBS basis functions. A short comparison between two approaches in formulations reveals the pros and cons of them with the applicability in the isogeometric multipatch problem. In addition, a NURBS based stress recovery is adopted to express a better stress continuity through the post-processing. Numerical examples indicate the effectiveness of Nitsche method in the non-conforming patch, following the exact solution well. For the stress concentration problem with the conforming patch, introduced two methodologies show comparative results, meanwhile the NURBS based stress recovery presents an improved smooth stress contour in the whole domain including the patch interface.

  • In this study, an assessment is made for the helicopter vibration reduction of composite rotor blades using an active twist control concept. The piezoceramic shear actuation mechanism along with elastic couplings of composite blades is used for vibration reduction. The rotor blades are modeled as composite box-beams with actuator layers bonded on the outer surfaces of the thin-walled section. The governing equations of motion for helicopter blades are obtained using Hamilton's principle. A time domain unsteady aerodynamic theory with free wake model is used to obtain the airloads. Various rotor configurations with different elastic couplings with appropriate actuator placement are used to investigate the hub vibration characteristics. Numerical results show that a substantial reduction of $N_b$/rev hub vibration can be achieved using the optimal control algorithm.

  • Two-dimensional turbulent plane jet which is under the pressure gradient in the transverse direction is studied numerically. Full Navier-Stokes equations are used to correctly account for the pressure variation in the transverse direction. Using the standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model as a closure relationship, a time marching procedure gives the velocity field. The temperature fields are obtained for two different cases : (1) Hot jet is issued into the cold still air, and (2) Hot jet is issued into the surrounding across which exists a temperature difference. The velocity and temperature fields along with other flow and heat-transfer characteristics for two different pressure gradients are presented. A simple formula that relates the jet trajectory to the pressure gradient is also proposed. The mass flux in the longitudinal direction and the jet halfwidth seem insensitive to the pressure gradient. However, the pressure gradient increases the heat flux in the longitudinal direction as well as in the transverse direction.

  • In this study, the AERMOD air diffusing model was used to estimate the range of influence of Hazardous chemicals (hydrogen fluoride) in case of small accidents in Jeju area. The impact scope were in the order of Seogwipo Fire Station, Dongbu Fire Station, Jeju Fire Station, and Seobu Fire Station. Seasonal orders were summer, spring, autumn and winter. The correlation between the meteorological factors shows a strong positive correlation with the wind speed of 0.998 and has a negative correlation with the temperature of -0.463. Through the linear regression analysis, we could estimate the equation of Impact scope = 13.922WS (Wind Speed) - 5.195 and the reliability ($R^2$) was as high as 0.995.

  • Hysteresis phenomena are often encountered in a wide variety of fluid flow systems used in industrial and engineering applications. Hence, in recent years, a significant amount of research been focusing on clarifying the physics of the flow hysteresis appearing during the transient change of the pressure ratios and influencing the performance of the supersonic wind tunnel. However, investigations on the hysteresis phenomenon, particularly when it occurs inside the supersonic wind tunnel, are rare. In this study, numerical simulations were carried out to investigate the hysteresis phenomena of the shock waves encountered in a supersonic wind tunnel. The unsteady and compressible flow was analyzed with an axisymmetric model, and the N-S equations were solved by using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. The optimal pressure ratio was determined from the hysteresis curves, and the results can be utilized to operate the wind tunnel efficiently.

  • Emoticons used in personal messengers have already become a one of industry. In this study, we want to explore what motivations people use emoticons and how they affect to purchasing behavior. We first looked into which emoticon usage motivation influenced the attitude of emoticon purchase, and then analyzed the research model through PLS-based structural equation modeling. The result found that fashion and fun/habit factors significantly explain attitudes to emoticon purchase, and attitude, subjective norms, and perceived self-control affect to purchase intention and purchase intention predict purchase behavior. This study showed the factors affecting the purchase of emoticons through a validated model, and the results suggest what motivation factors should be included in the marketing phase and advertising.

  • This paper introduces the simulation concepts and technical approach of underwater weapon system performance analysis simulator, especially focused on probabilistic target detection concepts. We calculated the signal excess (SE) value using SONAR equation, then derived the probability density function(PDF) for target presence($H_1$) or absence($H_0$) cases, respectively. With the Neyman-Pearson detector criterion, we got the probability of detection($P_D$) while satisfying the given probability of false alarm($P_{FA}$). At every instance of simulation, target detection is decided in the probabilistic perspective. With the proposed detection implementation, we improved the model fidelity so that it could support the tactical decision during the operation.

  • The water transport and water content of the electrolyte membrane greatly affect the performance of the membrane in PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell). In this study, the parameters (electroosmotic coefficient, water diffusion coefficient) of polymer membranes for water transport were measured by a simple method, and water flux and ion conductivity were simulated by using a model equation. One dimensional steady state model equation was constructed by using only the electro-osmosis and diffusion as the driving force of water transport. The governing equations were simulated with MATLAB. The electro-osmotic coefficient of $144{\mu}m$ thick polymer membranes was measured in hydrogen pumping cell, the value was 1.11. The water diffusion coefficient was expressed as a function of relative humidity and the activation energy for water diffusion was $2,889kJ/mol{\cdot}K$. The water flux and ion conductivity results simulated by applying these coefficients showed good agreement with the experimental data.
