Concept Design of a Parallel-type Tuned Mass Damper - Tuned Sloshing Damper System for Building Motion Control in Wind

  • Supplementary damping systems, such as tuned mass dampers (TMDs) and tuned sloshing dampers (TSDs) - also known as tuned liquid dampers (TLDs) - have been successfully employed to reduce building motion during wind events. A design of a damping system consisting of a TMD and two TSDs performing in unison has been developed for a tall building in Taiwan to reduce wind-induced motion. The architecturally exposed TMD will also be featured as a tourist attraction. The dual-purpose TSD tanks will perform as fire suppression water storage tanks. Linearized equivalent mechanical TSD and TMD models are coupled to the structure to simulate the multi-degree of freedom system response. Frequency response curves for the structure with and without the damping system are created to evaluate the performance of the damping system. The performance of the combined TMD-TSD system is evaluated against a conventional TMD system by computing the effective damping produced by each system. The proposed system is found to have superior performance in acceleration reduction. The combined TMD-TSD system is an effective and affordable means to reduce the wind-induced resonant response of tall buildings.

Active tuned tandem mass dampers for seismic structures

  • Motivated by a simpler and more compact hybrid active tuned mass damper (ATMD) system with wide frequency spacing (i.e., high robustness) but not reducing the effectiveness using the least number of ATMD units, the active tuned tandem mass dampers (ATTMD) have been proposed to attenuate undesirable oscillations of structures under the ground acceleration. Likewise, it is expected that the frequency spacing of the ATTMD is comparable to that of the active multiple tuned mass dampers (AMTMD) or the multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMD). In accordance with the mode generalised system in the specific vibration mode being controlled (simply referred herein to as the structure), the closed-form expression of the dimensionless displacement variances has been derived for the structure with the attached ATTMD. The criterion for the optimum searching may then be determined as minimization of the dimensionless displacement variances. Employing the gradient-based optimization technique, the effects of varying key parameters on the performance of the ATTMD have been scrutinized in order to probe into its superiority. Meanwhile, for the purpose of a systematic comparison, the optimum results of two active tuned mass dampers (two ATMDs), two tuned mass dampers (two TMDs) without the linking damper, and the TTMD are included into consideration. Subsequent to work in the frequency domain, a real-time Simulink implementation of dynamic analysis of the structure with the ATTMD under earthquakes is carried out to verify the findings of effectiveness and stroke in the frequency domain. Results clearly show that the findings in the time domain support the ones in the frequency domain. The whole work demonstrates that ATTMD outperforms two ATMDs, two TMDs, and TTMD. Thereinto, a wide frequency spacing feature of the ATTMD is its highlight, thus deeming it a high robustness control device. Furthermore, the ATTMD system only needs the linking dashpot, thus embodying its simplicity.

  • 전동기와 부하가 강성이 작은 축으로 연결되는 산업용 전동기 구동시스템에 있어서 전동기의 관성과 부하의 관성에 의해 축에 비틀림 진동이 발생한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 기존에 2자유도 H$_{\infty}$제어기가 제안되었다. 그러나 이 제어기는 구현하는데 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 부분적인 상태궤환과 공진비제어를 이용한 2관성계의 H$_{\infty}$제어가 제안되었다. 제안된 제어기는 간단하면서도 외란 및 진동억제 성능을 만족한다.어기는 간단하면서도 외란 및 진동억제 성능을 만족한다.

  • Increasing requirements for the high quality of industrial robot performance made the vibration control issue very important because the vibration makes it difficult to achieve quick response of robot motion and may bring mechanical damage to the robot. This paper presents a vibration control solution for industrial robots which have flexible joints. The joint flexibility is modeled as a two-mass system. And we analyze the vibration problem of a classical P-PI controller when it used for the flexible joints of industrial robots. Then a state feedback controller is designed for vibration suppression of the two-mass system. Finally, a gain-scheduling method is designed for maintaining control performance in spite of the time-varying nature of each joint's load side inertia. Simulation and experimental results show effective vibration suppression and uniform properties in overshoot in spite of the variation of load. The result of this study can be applied to the appropriate gain manipulation of many other mechatronic devices which have the two-mass system with varying load side inertia.

단체 건강검진 운영 관리를 위한 통합관리 시스템의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of the Integrated Management System for Mass Health Examination Operations Management)

  • Purpose The healthcare services have drawn so much public attention, and many organizations such as schools and companies require the individuals to undergo the periodic health examination. In general, however, the mass health examination services are not managed in systematic way, and both examinees and medical staffs often experience much inconvenience while preparing, undergoing and managing the services. To address such problems, this paper aims to design the Health Examination Management System (HEMS), an integrated management system for mass health examination operations management, and implement its prototype. Design/methodology/approach First of all, HEMS enables the medical staffs to efficiently collect and manage the examination result data by supporting examination service management. Second, the users can efficiently analyze the cause-and-effect relationships among the examination items by using the visualization tool of HEMS based on the cluster heat map. Finally, the HEMS provides the operational supports for evaluating and managing the service performances. Findings The HEMS indicates that the conventional operations management approaches can be incorporated into the mass health examination services, and it is expected that the proposed system enables the examinees and the medical staffs to participate in such services in more efficient way.

  • This study was conducted to decide several design criterion for clean-washed rice processing system development. A Computer simulation was used to predict and analyze the mass balances and moisture changes of the process of clean-washed rice processing system. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. In order to attain the processing capacity of 1,000kg/h of the clean-washed rice processing system, that of the system was designed as 1,400kg/h which was based on the safety factor of 40% and handling capability of mass variations occurred during processing. 2. It was analyzed that the proper time required for aqueous cleaning process should be within one minute. 2. The final moisture content of clean-washed rice was controlled being 15%(w.b.) for the sake of safe storage. 4. It was proven that the optimum drying time was three minutes for the clean-washed rice dried by a rotary dryer.

  • 본 논문은 3 관성시스템의 진동억제를 위한 강인한(robust) 제어기의 설계법을 제안하고 이를 simulation 을 통하여 확인하는데 있다. 일반적으로 관성 시스템의 제어 문제는 결국. 시스템 자체에서 발생하는 진동을 최대한 억제하면서 빠른 시간에 원하는 위치에 출력을 가져가는 데 있다. 이 경우 문제로 되는 것은 시스템의 모델링 과정에서 발생하는 플랜트의 불확실성과 parameter 변동이다. 여기서는 일반적인 강인한 제어기 설계 이론의 하나인 $H_{\infty}$ 이론이 가지는 단점인 제어기의 보수성을 극복하면서, 동시에 출력의 과도응답특성을 개선하기 위한 방법으로 $H_2$ 이론을 병용하고 이를 LMI 이론으로 해석하였다. 이 과정에서 3 관성시스템에 LMI 이론을 적용하기 위한 일반화플랜트의 모형을 제시하고 이것의 유효성을, 모델의 불확실성과 parameter변동을 동시에 고려한 simulation을 통하여 확인하였다.

잔류기체 분석기 교정장치 개발 (Development of a Residual Gas Analyzer Calibration System)

  • 한국표준과학연구원 진공기술센터에서 잔류기체분석기 교정장치를 개발하였으며, 이 장치를 이용하여 서로 다른 구조를 가진 두개의 사중극 질량분석기 (quadrupole mass spectrometer)의 질소, 아르곤, 헬륨에 대한 기체감도를 측정하였다. 그 결과 기체감도는 QMS 구조와 상관없이 기체의 질량이 클수록 높게 나타났고 압력에 따라서도 다른 특성을 보였으므로 정확한 사용을 위해서는 기체감도를 꼭 보정해야 함을 알 수 있었다.

  • 질량비가 작은 접촉쌍성 GR Vir와 HV Aqr의 이미 발표된 분광 및 측광관측치를 WD프로그램에 적용하여 이 별들의 새로운 절대 물리량을 얻었다. GR Vir과 HV Aqr를 포함한 17개의 질량비가 작은 접촉쌍성들의 친화 상태를 조사하였다. 그 결과 질량비가 작은 접촉쌍성의 주성은 대부분 종년주계열상에 놓이며 반성은 영년주계열 아래 놓이고 있음을 확인하였다.

Vibration suppression analysis of a long-span cable-stayed bridge based on earthquake-wind-traffic-bridge coupled system

  • Wind and earthquake loads may cause strong vibrations in large-span cable-stayed bridges, leading to the inability of the bridge to operate normally. An improved Pounding Tuned Mass Damper (PTMD) system was designed to improve the safety of the large-span cable-stayed bridge. The vibration control effect of the improved PTMD system on the large-span cablestayed bridge under the combined action of earthquake-wind-traffic was studied. Furthermore, the impact of different parameters on the vibration suppression performance of the improved PTMD system was analyzed. The numerical results indicate that the PTMD system is very effective in suppressing the displacements of the bridge caused by both the traffic-wind coupling and traffic-earthquake coupling. Moreover, the number, mass ratio, pounding stiffness, and gap values have a significant influence on the vibration suppression performance of the improved PTMD system. When the number of PTMD is increased from 3 to 9, the vibration reduction ratio of the vertical displacement is increased from 25.39% to 48.05%. As the mass ratio changes from 0.5% to 2%, the vibration reduction ratio increases significantly from 22.23% to 53.30%.
