  • The strength of sliding plane is usually assigned on the whole sliding plane with same value in 2D limit equilibrium slope stability method. However, the potential sliding plane is divided into two or three parts which have different sliding resistances. According to the calculation results of 3D slope stability analyses using 4 types of slope cutting models, marginal sliding resistance could affect the safety of slope significantly. In this calculation two kinds of the sliding plane strengths were applied differently to the parts of bottom and margin of the model slope. The effect of marginal resistance was calculated quantitatively. In case of lower sliding resistance of the bottom, the safety factor becomes low in a margin cutting model. However, in case of higher sliding resistance of the bottom, the safety factor decreased slightly in a lower part cutting model and increased in a upper margin cutting model.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to investigate punching shear capacity of flat plate slab using high strength concrete in column. It may be much contributed to economy efficiency and structural advantages that High Strength Concrete(HSC) used for vertical member and Normal Strength Concrete(NSC) for horizontal member. Therefore, six plate flat slab specimens with HSC column and NSC slab had been made and tested with real scale. The major variables were compressive strength of concrete(fck=285, $460kgf/cm^2$), extended length of HSC from column face and amount of shear reinforcements. As the result of this test, the maximum load and punching shear capacity of specimens is affected by extended length and shear reinforcements.

  • Recently, as the size of buildings structure becomes large increases, their mat area of building structure is supported or by an inhomogeneous foundation. This paper presents a vibration analysis on thick plates subjected to in-plane force is presented in this paper. The rectangular plate is isotropic, homogeneous, and composed of a linearly elastic material. A vibration analysis of the rectangular thick plate iwas done by useing ofarectangular finite element with 8 nodes and 9 nodes. In this study, the foundation was idealized as a Pasternak foundation model. A Pasternak foundation haves a shear layer on Winkler's model, which idealizes the foundation as a vertical spring. In order tTo analysze the vibration of a plate supported on by an inhomogeneous Pasternak foundation, the value of the Winkler foundation parameter of the central and border zones of the plate awere chosen as WFP1 and WFP2. (fFigure 4.). The Winkler foundation parameter of WFP1 and WFP2 is varied from 0 to 10, $10^2$, and $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameters is were 0, 5, and 10. The ratio of the in-plane force to the critical load iwas applied as 0.4 to 0.8

  • In this study, when subjected to in-plane shear such as a shear wall, the behavior characteristics of a concrete member using CFRP rebars were investigated when the longitudinal reinforcement ratio was kept constant at 2.96% and the transverse reinforcement ratio was changed from 0.30 to 2.98%. The evaluation was conducted based on MCFT theory and analyzed by comparison with the case of concrete members using steel rebars. When the reinforcement ratio ranged from 0.30 to 1.19%, concrete members employing CFRP rebars exhibited higher shear strength compared to those using steel rebars. In contrast, at high reinforcement ratios of 1.79 and 2.98%, it was observed that the shear strength of the member with CFRP rebar was lower compared to the member with steel rebar. Maximum shear strain was observed to be higher for members reinforced with steel rebars at lower reinforcing bar ratios, while for ratios of 0.97% and above, CFRP rebars resulted in higher maximum shear strain. As the reinforcement ratio increases, the use of CFRP rebar instead of steel rebar results in a greater increase in maximum shear strain. By analyzing the difference in strain in the reinforcing bar as well as the difference in principal strain in the element caused by differences in the mechanical properties of the steel rebar and CFRP rebar, the shear strength and shear strain when using steel rebar and CFRP rebar with different reinforcement ratios can be compared and analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the behavior of unreinforced masonry RC frames strengthened by CFRP sheet under cyclic lateral loading. Four test specimens were constructed as one-story, one-bay, 1/2 scale unreinforced masonry infilled RC frames and differences in strength and stiffness were evaluated in specimens on which had been applied different retrofitting methods. Test results indicated that the CFRP sheets significantly increased the strength and stiffness of the specimens, and the specimens retrofitted in columns and masonry indicated the most adequate retrofitting methods.

  • Assuming plastic zones spreading out on each slip plane of the two materials under out-of-plane shear loading, the size of each plastic zone is computed. The effect of the different frictional shear stresses in the two materials on the size of each plastic zone and the relative displacement at the crack tip are investigated. The relation between the J-integral in this model and the relative displacement at the crack tip is also obtained.

  • The Janggunbong area(this study area) at the central-south part in the North Sobaegsan Massif, Korea, consists mainly of Precambrian(Wonnam and Yulri Formations)-Paleozoic [Joseon Supergroupuangsan Quarzite, Dueumri Formation and Janggun Limestone) and Pyeongan Group (Jaesan and Dongsugok Formations)l metasedimentary rocks and Mesozoic granitoid(Chunyang granite). This study is to interpret geological structure of the North Sobaegsan Massif in the Janggunbong area by analysing rock-structure and microstructure of the constituent rocks. It indicates that its geological structure was formed at least by four phases of deformation after the formation of gneissosity(S0) in the Wonnam Formation and bedding plane(S0) in the Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks. The first phase deformation(D1) formed tight isoclinal fold(F1). Its axial plane(S1) strikes east-west and steeply dips north. Its axis(L1) subhorizontally plunges east-west. The second phase deformation(D2), which was related to ductile shear deformation, formed stretching lineation(L2) and shear foliation(S2). The sense of the shear movement indicates dextral strike-slip shearing(topto-the east shearing). The third phase deformation(D3) formed open inclined fold(F3). Its axial plane(S3) strikes east-west and moderately or gently dips north. Its axis(L3) subhorizontally plunges east-west. The F3 fold reoriented the original north-dipping S1 foliation and D2 shear sense into south-dipping S1 foliation(top-to-the west shear sense on this foliation) at its a limb. The four phase of deformation(D4) formed asymmetric-type open inclined fold(F4) of NE-vergence with NW striking axial plane(%) and NW-NNW plunging axis(L4). The F4 fold partly reoriented pre-D4 structural elements with east-west trend into those with north-south trend. Such reorientaion is recognized mainly in the Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks.

  • The major interest of this paper is how the spilled oil over the sea is dispersed into water column especially under the shear and turbulence such as breaking wave. Two hydraulic experiments were conducted to investigate the oil stick break-up characteristics into small and large droplets under the variation of velocity shear and breaking waves. From the experiments in the shear generator and the wave flume, small droplets which have diameters of tens to hundreds of micrometers were uniformly distributed throughout the whole control volume as time goes by. In addition, it can be seen that the weathered spilled oil has a different break-up mechanism from fresh spilled oil.

  • This research program is directed at studying the behavior and the strength of reinforced concrete slabs sub¬jected to certain combination of punching shear and in-plane tension. Major variables to be investigated are the shear span to depth ratio of reinforced concrete slabs and the degree of the in-plane tensile force which is act¬ing tangent to the slabs. The experimental results are used for understanding of the degree of tbe interaction between the two loadings, and for developing a new practical design equation.

  • We investigated effect of Zn content on shear strengh of Sn-0.7Cu-xZn and OSP surface finished solder joints. Five pastes of Sn-0.7Cu-xZn (x=0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 wt.%) solders were fabricated by mixing of solder powder and flux using planatary mixer. $180{\mu}m$ diameter solder balls were formed on OSP surface finished Cu electrodes by screen print method, and the reflow process was performed. The shear strength was evaluated with two high shear speeds; 0.01 and 0.1 m/s. The thickness of the intermetallic compound(IMC) layer was decreased with increasing Zn content in Sn-0.7Cu-xZn solder. The highest shear strength was 3.47 N at the Zn content of 0.5 wt.%. As a whole, the shear strength at condition of 0.1 m/s was higher than that of 0.01 m/s because of impact stress. Fracture energies were calculated by F-x (Force-displacement) curve during high speed shear test and the tendency of fracture energy and that of shear strength were good agreement each other. Fracture took place within solder matrix at lower Zn content, and fracture occured near the interface of OSP surface finished Cu electrode and solder at higher Zn content.
