Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictors of tuberculosis (TB) drugs in health care workers diagnosed with latent tuberculosis Infection (LTBI). Methods: This study was a descriptive correlation study. Data were collected by using a self-report questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by -test, t-test, and logistic regression analysis. Results: There were involved 160 participants, 35 (21.9%) who took the TB drugs, and 125 (73.8%) who did not take the TB drugs. The predictors on taking TB drugs in health care workers with LTBI were subjective norms (OR=3.33, p<.001), perceived sensitivity (OR=2.67, p=.026), perceived barrier (OR=0.14, p=.014), and unmarried (OR=4.69, p=.006) than married, health care worker category 2 group (OR=5.84, p=.015) and 1 group (OR=4.25, p=.022) than 3, 4 group, sleep over 7 hours (OR=4.11, p=.022) than less 7 hours sleep. Conclusion: In order to promote the use of TB drugs in health care workers with LTBI, it is necessary that take intervention strategies to increase the subjective norms and perceived sensitivity and to decrease the perceived barriers.
Purpose: This study aimed to verify the effects of a community-based fall prevention exercise program for older adults on lower extremity muscle strength, balance ability, and fall efficacy. Methods: This study recruited 30 participants, and the program was conducted for 10 weeks. The program included sessions on strength and balance exercises, conducted for 50 minutes a day and at least three times a week. The collected data were analyzed using non-parametric (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, generalized estimated equation) and parametric statistics (paired t-test, rmANOVA). Results: After 12 weeks of exercise program, lower extremity muscle strength and static-dynamic balance ability significantly increased. The fall efficacy increased from an average score of 2.48 points before the test to an average score of 2.91 points after the test. Regarding general characteristics, there were no significant differences in effect before and after the program, except for fall efficacy. Conclusion: The above results showed that the intervention of a community-based fall prevention exercise program for older adults was effective. Therefore, it is suggested that this exercise program be organized regularly within the center to provide periodic and long-term services.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the changes in reality shock among new nurses and their influencing factors to identify turnover reduction methods. Methods: A total of 146 new nurses from 6 general hospitals participated in the survey. The survey data were collected from August 5 to November 10, 2015. Results: The mean scores for factors related to turn over were 2.75 for nurse practice environment, 2.84 (4point scale) for reality shock, and 3.08 (5point scale) for turnover intention. A significant difference in the impact of reality shock was observed depending on whether the nurses selected their work unit (F=6.24, p=.003) and whether they could take the possibility of holiday on the desired day at will (t=-2.57, p=.013). Changes in reality shock correlated with turnover intention, with the 'increased reality shock' group demonstrating an odds ratio of 2.37 (CI: 1.41~3.98) for turnover intention. Conclusion: The current findings indicate the need for lowering reality shock and turnover intention by considering nurses' work-related characteristics and improving their practice environments. To further study the changes in reality shock new nurses experienced, additional research is warranted while homogenizing the participants in terms of preceptorship duration and timing of independence.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of auricular acupressure on competitive state anxiety and the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a time-series design. Twenty-two taekwondo breaking players were assigned to the control group for the first two weeks and then assigned to the experimental group for the next two weeks. Anxiety was measured by the revised Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 and the accuracy of breaking was measured as a percentage of breaking the wooden board. Results: Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased the accuracy of breaking from 80.83±7.99% to 90.92±7.57% (t=7.74, p<.001). Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased anxiety from 35.66±10.36 to 50.64±7.45 (t=4.38, p<.001). Among three subtypes of competitive state anxiety, somatic anxiety was increased from 12.48±4.97 to 22.95±4.54 (t=2.09, p=.011). Cognitive anxiety was significantly increased from 10.11±3.96 to 14.68±3.89 (t=5.37, p<.001) but self-confidence was not changed. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that auricular acupressure was effective in increasing the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players.
Purpose: The effects of aroma massage on pain, activities of daily living, and fatigue were investigated in the patients who have knee osteoarthritis. Method: A quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest measures was used. Twenty one and twenty subjects were included in control and experimental group, respectively. Subjects in experimental group had aroma massage which used lavender, chamomile, and ginger oil on painful knee. They were encouraged to implement aroma massage at least two times a day for 2 weeks. Subjects in the control group had conventional oil massage implementing by exactly same method as did in the experimental group. GRS(graphic rating scale), Korean version of WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster) osteoarthritis index, and MAF(multidimensional assessment of fatigue) were used to measure the outcome variables such as pain, activities of daily living and fatigue, respectively. Results: After 2 weeks, those in the experimental group reported significantly less pain and fatigue and better activities of daily living than those in the control group. Conclusion: Based on these results, aroma massage could be recommended as a self managed intervention for the patients with knee osteoarthritis.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of a fall prevention education on the fall-related knowledge, prevention activity of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. A total of 44 patients of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department were randomly divided into the experimental group (n=22) and the control group (n=22). The experimental group received about an half hour, fall prevention education at the admission day, 3days and 5days after admission, while the control group received the usual care. The outcome variables were measured before and after fall prevention education. Data were analyzed with $x^2$-test and t-test by using SPSS 12. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in fall-related knowledge and prevention activity. Conclusion: The fall prevention education was effective in increasing fall-related knowledge and prevention activity of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department. For reducing fall events, it is important to educate the elderly hospitalized about fall-related knowledge and prevention activity related to fall.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of workplace bullying experience and resilience on the organizational socialization among new graduate nurses. Methods: This is a descriptive correlational study with 148 new graduate nurses working in the hospitals in B city of Korea. The instruments that were used for measuring main variables were the negative acts questionnaire-revised (NAQ-R), the Korean version of the Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC), and the measurement tool for new nurses' organizational socialization. Results: The prevalence of workplace bullying was 22.3%, and the subjects reported moderate level of resilience. Significant negative correlations between workplace bullying and resilience, and organizational socialization were found. A significant positive correlation was found between resilience and organizational socialization. As a result of multiple regression analysis, resilience, workplace bullying, and a working in desired unit turned out to be variables that explained new graduate nurses' organizational socialization (adjusted $R^2=.514$, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that new graduate nurses with higher resilience and less experience of workplace bullying would show higher organizational socialization. Further research is needed to identify the regulation effect of resilience in between workplace bullying and organizational socialization.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of life satisfaction and identify factors influencing life satisfaction in Korean baby-boomer men with drinking problems. Methods: The study used cross-sectional design with secondary analysis of the 7th data of Korean Welfare Penal Study collected in 2012 from 6,000 Korean households. Among 1,572 baby-boomers born between 1955 and 1963, 349 men with a drinking problem were selected as a sample by the Alcohol Use Identification Test (AUDIT) scores. Levels of depression, self-esteem, and life satisfaction were measured. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were conducted with SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: The findings indicated that the mean AUDIT score was 13.7. Means were 2.8 for depression, 20.2 for self-esteem, and 23.2 for life satisfaction. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem, depression, educational level, and levels of problem drinking significantly predicted life satisfaction, explaining 41.1% of the variance. Conclusion: Problem drinking, depression, and self-esteem were important to improve life satisfaction among Korean baby-boomer men. Further study is necessary to examine the mediating effects of depression and self-esteem in the relationship between problem drinking and life satisfaction.
