  • Brake judder, one of low Sequency vibrations in brake system is determined by the excitation of Brake Torque Variation (BTV). The largest contributor to BTV is disc thickness variation. In this study, the static loads of brake torque at Suspension Mounting Points (SW) are obtained by the quasi-static analysis using DADS. The dynamic loads with frequency of BTV at SW are derived from correlation between forced vibration analysis with static loads and brake test results. And the accelerations at steering wheel were analyzed by forced vibration analysis with dynamic loads using commercial finite element program MSC/NASTRAN so that vibration characteristics of vehicle due to brake judder were investigated. Reliability of analysis results was verified through comparing the brake test results. Also, a parametric study with natural frequencies of frame, such as the 1st torsional mode and 1st bending mode, was conducted to reduce vibration amplitudes. As a result we could detect frame natural frequency conditions to improve vibration characteristics and obtained the frame model to reduce vibration amplitude.

  • This study was conducted to investigate of water qualities in the upper and middle reaches of the Han River. For this purpose, water was sampled at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges of the Han River in Seoul and analysed from August, 1988 to September, 1989. The results are summarized as follows : 1. Water quality at 1st Han-River Bridge was more polluted than that at Kwangjin Bridge. 2. Except biological oxygen demand (BOD), turbidity, suspended solid (SS), dissolved oxygen (DO), DO saturation (DOS), ammonia nitrogen ($NH_3-N$), nitrite nitrogen ($NO_2-N$) and chloride ion ($Cl^-$) at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges were lower as compared with the previous data before redevelopment of the Han River. 3. SS, DO and pH at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges could be classified to the 1st grade in environmental water quality standard. DOS at Kwangjin Bridge was over 100% and that at 1st Han-River Bridge was below 100% in the Han River. BOD at Kwangjin Bridge could be classified to End grade and that at 1st Han-River Bridge to 3rd grade in environmental water quality standard. 4. The higher the level of water was, the lower the levels of turbidity and SS, and $NH_3-N$ was decreased with increasing water level at 1st Han-River Bridge. DO was decreased as water temperature went up but DOS was increased with DO. BOD was positively correlated with nitrite-nitrogens. 5. Turbidity and SS at the both sites and Chloride ion ($Cl^-$) at Kwangjin Bridge were increased in July and August. And DO at the both sites and $NH_3-N$ at 1st Han-River Bridge were decreased in at July and August.

  • The diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer is generally based on the findings of intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusions and nuclear grooves. Although anisokaryosis and poikilokaryosis, in papillary thyroid cancer, are not distinct when compared to other cancers, cytological examination can provide useful preoperative information. Our study evaluated the diagnostic role of computer-assisted image analysis for the pre-surgical assessment of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Thyroid aspirates from twenty female patients who were histologically confirmed to have both papillary carcinoma and benign nodules were studied. Different populations of 50 benign cells and 50 malignant cells were analyzed. Five morphometric parameters were selected for analysis: nuclear area, perimeter, maximum length, maximum width and intensity standard variation. The values obtained for papillary carcinomas were higher than the surrounding benign nodules as follows: nuclear area 63.5 vs. 36.1 (p=0.000), nuclear perimeter were 29.4 vs. 22.0 (p=0.000), maximum length 9.6 vs. 7.1 (p=0.000), maximum width 8.2 vs. 6.3 (p=0.000), the ratio between maximal length and maximal width 1.16 vs. 1.13 (p=0.000), the standard variation of intensity 14.9 vs. 15.9 (p=0.101) respectively. Therefore, morphometric information can be helpful for the differential cytological diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma.

  • A relation between the temporal variation of rainfall and direct runoff was characterized using temporal indexes of rainfall(1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th moment). Curve Number has a relation with 1st and 2nd moment for AMCIII condition when the rainfall duration is relative (10th quantile). Also peak runoff ratio(QP/Q) has a relation with 1st and End moment for AMCIII condition as well as 3rd and 4th moment for AMC I condition. Considering all durations of rainfall, alternatively, Curve Number has a relation with 1st and 2nd moment for AMCIIIcondition besides every moments for AMC I condition. But peak runoff ratio(QP/Q) has few relations excepting 3rd and 4th moment for AMC I condition. As a results, temporal indexes of rainfall are useful to determine curve numbers regarding the temporal variation of rainfall.

  • This study is to compare variation indexes by monthly, weekly and hourly using AIS data, which was collected for 365 days from January 1st to December 31st, 2013 at Mokpo Port and then, computed the maximum standard error by observation days. The comparison of monthly variation indexes showed that the monthly variation indexes for September and February were 1.11 and 0.84, respectively, in turn revealing that the maritime traffic in September was about 32.1 % larger than February. Also, the daily variation indexes for Tuesday and Sunday were 1.05 and 0.92, respectively, in turn revealing that the maritime traffic in Tuesday was about 14.1 % larger than Sunday. When the maritime traffic investigation is executed for at least 1 week in consideration of the daily variation index, it is possible to reduce the maximum standard error rate to be within 21 %. Therefore, if the maritime traffic investigation is made in the month and week with low maritime traffic, each variation index should be applied to reflect the actual maritime traffic.

  • The particle dispersion in the turbulent mixing layer has been numerically investigated to clarify the effect of the velocity ratio in the large-scale vortical structures. In this study the LES with subgrid-scale model is employed. The Lagrangian method to predict the particle motion is applied. The particles of 10, 50, 150, 200${\mu}m$ in mean diameter were loaded into the origin of the mixing layer. It is shown that the characteristics of flow and growth rate are strongly dependent on the variation of the velocity ratio. It is also shown the relationship between the Stokes number and the particle dispersion. As a result, in the case of St~1 the particle dispersion is faster than the diffustion of the flow field while in the cases of both St<<1 and St>>1 it is shown that the particle dispersion in lower than the diffusion of the flow filed.

  • As part of thrust control technology research on turbopump-fed type liquid-propellant rocket engine system, the low frequency dynamic characteristics of turbopump was investigated. It can be described that a turbopump system has a 1st-order lag element. When the value, which was resulted by subtraction of the variation of turbine moment with respect to the variation of revolution number from the variation of pump moment with respect to the variation of revolution number, was positive, the time constant of the 1st-order lag element was positive which stood for a stable system. Increasing the above-mentioned valve within positive range leaded to the increase of response and to the decrease of controllability.

  • The seasonal variation of microbial community, based on the bacteria, heterotrophic nanoflagellates (HNF), phytoplankton and ciliates, was investigated at three sites in the eutrophic brackish water of Lake Shihwa and its adjacent areas from May 2007 through May 2008. At the upstream-region site St. 1, compared to the other two sites, significantly lower salinities and higher concentrations of nutrients and chlorophyll $\alpha$ (Chl. $\alpha$) were recorded. The annual average abundances of bacteria at St. 1, St. 2 and St. 3 were $6.8{\times}10^6$, $7.4{\times}10^6$ and $4.6{\times}10^6\;cells\;mL^{-1}$, respectively. As for the annual average concentrations of HNF, $19{\times}10^2$, $6.7{\times}10^2$ and $5.9{\times}10^2\;cells\;mL^{-1}$, were recorded in St. 1, St. 2 and St. 3 respectively. The highest ciliate abundance appeared at St. 1 on 29 April, 2008 and in which, 99% were autotrophic ciliate Mesodinium rubrum (Myrionecta rubra). Significant linear correlations between the biomass of bacteria and Chl. $\alpha$ were found, however, no significant relationships between ciliates abudance/biomass and their prey organisms were detected in all three sites, implying relatively low energy transfer efficiencies between them. These results indicated that the trophic relationship between ciliates and their prey organisms in the microbial community might be influenced by indirect route since higher trophic level organisms did not directly correlate to those of lower trophic level, although high primary productions were detected in the eutrophic brackish water of Lake Shihwa and its adjacent areas.

  • Effects of particle property variation of cone crack shape according to impact velocity in silicon carbide materials were investigated. The damage induced by spherical impact having different material and size was different according to materials. The size of ring cracks induced on the surface of specimen increased with increase of impact velocity within elastic contact conditions. The impact of steel particle produced larger ring cracks than that of SiC particle. In case of high impact velocity, the impact of SiC particle produced radial cracks by the elastic-plastic deformation at impact regions. Also percussion cone was formed from the back surface of specimen when particle size become large and its impact velocity exceeded a critical value. Increasing impact velocity, zenithal angle of cone cracks in SiC material was linearly decreasing not effect of impact particle size. An empirical equation, $\theta=\theta_{st}-\upsilon_p(180-\theta_{st})(\rho_p/\rho_s)^{1/2}/415$, was obtained from the test data as a function of quasi-static zenithal angle of cone crack($\theta_{st}$), the density of impact particle(${\rho}_p$) and specimen(${\rho}_s$). Applying this equation to the another materials, the variation of zenithal angle of cone crack could be predicted from the particle impact velocity.

  • Performances of common zone with various sizes are examined for possible demand rate variations for an AS/RS. Common zone is a middle area located between the 1st class and the 2nd class to be used by the 1st class Items if the assigned racks are not enough. This area is designed to resolve the rack shortage problem associated with a particular class. In the previous researches, effect of demand rate variation is Ignored since flxed demand rate is assumed. It is found that rack shortage rate is decreased up to 67% of common zone size. However, no difference is found at above 70%. Waiting time tends to be longer with Increased common zone while travel time and throughput are not affected at all with the common zone sloe.
