The development of information retrieval between 1950s and 1990s is described chronologically. For each decade, the following information retrieval systems are examined : post-coordinate and KWIC indexing methods for the 1950s ; off-line and experimental on-line systems for the 1960s ; on-line and full-text retrieval systems for the 1970s ; full-text databases, on-line interfaces, and overseas and domestic on-line databases for the 1980s ; and finally for the 1990s, CD-ROM, multimedia, hypertext, and Internet. The prospects for the future are also discussed.

This paper studied the transition of changes in social status of the film since 1980s' Korea. After accepting the changes in social status of the film as the legitimation process of recognition for social and cultural value, this study investigated those influencing factors. For the purpose, opportunity structure in social movement theory was engaged as a theoretical background. The structured opportunity, which was considered as external variables of the film world, was divided into chance and risk factors. In this paper, the opportunity factors, affecting the legitimation process of film, included the emergence of popular culture movement. The risk factors, being considered as the violation of American filmdom and the consequential response of strategies were also researched. Those factors were responsible not only for external variables of filmdom, but also for compensators and competitors in the legitimation process of the film. Since 1980s', cultural industrial growth and democratization generation's entry into the film world affected the legitimation of the film as significant cultural product. Besides, the threat of American film industry changed rationality and competitive landscape of Korean film world.

Speleology has been recognized as a comprehensive science. The purpose of this study examine the research trends of the cave in korea. Journal of the Speleological Society was used for analysis. In the 1970s, research was focused primarily in the field of geomorphology(geology). But, since the 2000s, a variety of disciplines in the cave study is in progress.

This study has analyzed the situation and space structure of Chungcheong Region using the variables of land prices. The total amount of land prices of Chungcheon Region was 950 trillion KRW as of December 2013, showing that it has increased by 6.46 times compared to 147 trillion KRW of 1980, which was the time of initial analysis. As a result of analyzing the dynamic changes in the region based on the land prices from 1980 through 2013, there were significant changes in the space structures only in the 1980s. The analysis of centrality based on the land prices of Chungcheong Region has shown that the center of Chungcheong Region was to the northeast of Sejong City in the 1980s and moved to the right with the rise in the land prices of Daejeon Region. The standard deviation of distance showed concentration around Daejeon entering the 1990s from the 1980s, and almost no concentration has been found after that.

The so-called Cultural and Historical Geography, sometimes called even as the Historical and Cultural Geography, has been defined as an interdiscipline that encompasses several disciplines in Korea. Scholars with various academic background have participated in the academic activity of the Association of Korean Cultural and Historical Geographers that was organized in the late 1980s. The academic majors of these participants are cultural geography, historical geography, history of geography, urban geography rural geography, economic geography, social and economic history anthropology, landscape architecture, and so on. It was in the 1960s that articles about the Cultural and Historical Geography appeared for the first time in the major academic journals in Korea. The pioneers of publishing these articles in the 1960s continued to conduct their research, while training students majoring in the Cultural and Historical Geography in the 1970s. All of these pioneers and their students were very active in the formation of identity vrith the Cultural and Historical Geography In the 1980s. Cultural and Historical Geography in Korea took a great leap forward both in quantity and in quality. The number of articles in the journal increased substantially, and the range of research theme and methodology extended in a great deal. It was also in the late 1980s that the Association of Korean Cultural and Historical Geographers was organized in Seoul, Korea, and this association began to publish a professional journal named Cultural and Historical Geography once a year. In the 1990s, single-authored books dealing with Korean Cultural and Historcial Geography began to appear in public as textbooks or research monographs. These books are expected to speed up the spread of Cultural and Historical Geography in Korea. If it continues to grow further both in quantity and in quality as it has been, Cultural and Historical Geography in Korea will be able to stand as an independent academic field in the future. Until then, however, it cannot but avoid its mission to contribute to an integrated development of human geography in Korea. It has already gained not only its own merit in the humanistic perspective but also its own strength in its synthetic understanding.

This paper analyzed romance novels imported into Korea in the 1980s and examined the traits of Korean girls' culture at that time. To this end, This paper chose as subjects the series of 'high-teen romance' published by Samjungdang, 'princess bestseller' by Seoul Publishing and the 'silhouette romance' by Joongang Ilbo in the 1980s. Through the aspects of the paperback romances, the traits of the artist, the content of the work, and the response of the reader, this paper analyzed the position and affection of romance as a genre in Korean culture in the 1980s. In the 1980s, most of the paperback romances available in Korea were translations of the modern and progressive present lines of Harlequin Enterprise's category romance. There were also many writers who were mostly introduced with progressive characters like Charlotte Lamb. The Harlequin romance depicts a story of sensual love. These translated 1980s paperback romance novels allowed girls in Korea to freely imagine the problems of sex and love. In particular, it showed a new perspective on women's sexuality. In Korean love novels, the sexuality of women was treated as an object for the gaze of men. The novels of female writers as college student who criticized this dealt with women's sexuality, but focused on criticism and resistance to the ideology of chastity. The paperback romance made it possible for women to freely enjoy their sexuality by escaping the ethical standards of reality. In addition, the paperback romance was an escape from the frustration of love. Romantic love in Korean love novels did not lead to the unification of mind and body, and always ended in tragedy. On the contrary, the paperback romance started with the fear of the girl who felt love for the first time, showed the process of winning over anxiety, confirming love and reaching a happy marriage. Through this, girls understood general love that was not subordinated to the ideology of chastity, and accepted love positively. The process of establishing romance as a genre in Korean culture and the traits of its readers have not yet been sufficiently clarified yet. This paper compared the romance genre with the other love novels of the day, explaining the position and meaning of the romance genre in Korean culture in the 1980s. Through this, we were able to chart the historical development of the Korean romance genre.

본 연구는 1980년대 우리나라 출산력의 급격한 변동을 설명하기 위하여 1988년 한국보건사회 연구원에서 실시한 전국규모의 출산력 및 가족보건조사자료를 기초로 출산순위진도 측정방법에 의하여 출산력을 분석한 것이다. 본 연구 결과에서는 년도별 출산력과 출산순위분포, 출산순위별 진도율 등을 측정하였고, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1980년 초에는 출산력이 2.8에서 1986년 이후에 대체수준이하인 1.8로 계속적인 하향추세를 보였다. 출산순위별 진도율에서는 둘째에서 세째아이로 진도한 비율이 1980년초에서 1986년사이에 약 71%가 감소하였고, 세째순위에서 네째순위로 33%가 감소하였다. 세째이상으로 진도한 비율의 감소율이 90%를 상회하고 이중 둘째에서 세째사이의 변동율이 50%를 나타내었다. 출산순위분포에서는 둘째아이에 64%가 집중되어 있으며 출산진도율은 결혼에서 첫째아이로 진도되는 확률이 90%, 첫째에서 둘째로 85%, 둘째에서 세째로는 18%가 나타냈다. 이러한 현상은 최근 한국부인의 82%가 둘째아이에서 단산하는 경향을 보이고 한자녀만 갖는 확률은 15%로 풀이되고 있다.
