The objective of this study was to determine effects of $\beta$-mercaptoethanol ($\beta$-ME) and cyst-eine (CYS) on the development of bovine em-bryos obtained from in vitro matured and fertil-ized oocytes. Cumulus-oocyte-complexes (COC-s) were matured in micro-drop of TCM-199 medium containing 10% FBS, 17$\beta$-Estradiol and FSH-p under paraffin oil at 39$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs. The fertilization of COC were induced in Fert-TALP medium supplemented with PHE, heparin, BSA and then the fertilized oocytes were cultured in CR1aa medium for 24 hrs. To investigate the effects of the agents on the development of the embryos, the embryos developed to the late 2-cell stage were cultured in the media with and without $\beta$-ME, CYS for 9 days. In experiment 1, to select appropriate concentration of $\beta$-ME and CYS during whole culture period (9 days), various concentrations of $\beta$-ME and CYS were add ded to the CR1aa medium. Addition of 25TEX>$\mu$M of $\beta$-ME and O.1mM of CYS to the culture medium 1 increase the incidence of embryos developed to the blastocyst. In experiment 2, we evaluated the effects of 25$\mu$M of $\beta$-ME and O.1mM of CYS addition on the blastocyst formation when emb bryos at different stages were exposed to 25$\mu$M $\beta$-ME and O.1mM of CYS. $\beta$-ME and CYS enhanced in vitro development of embryos to the blastocyst stage. The effect was greater in 8-ceII to morula embryos than in embryos fewer than 2-cells at the initiation of treatment. These results suggested that the addition of 25$\mu$M B-ME and O.1mM cysteine enhanced development to the blastocyst and hatching stage of in vitro derived bovine embryos, also addition of $\beta$-ME and cysteine were effective later stage embryo than early embryo development.
The phosphorus(P) adsorption capacities of various filter media were investigated in relation to the size and types of fitter media to screen the optimum condition. The objective of this study was to evaluate the constructed wetland longevity by improving P adsorption capacity. The maximum P adsorption capacities of filter media A($4{\sim}10\;mm$), B($2{\sim}4\;mm$) and C($0.1{\sim}2\;mm$) were 8, 10 and 22 mg/kg, respectively, showing those increased as the filter media size decreased. Among the experimental media, the optimum filter media size was $0.1{\sim}2\;mm$. When the filter Medium was supplemented with organic materials which were piled up and decayed in the constructed wetland, the P adsorption capacity was significantly enhanced Under the conditions of optimum fitter media size, the respective Maximum P adsorption capacities of filter media C when supplemented with Ca, Mg, Al and Fe were higher than that of filter media C. However the addition of Ca, Mg, Al and Fe to constructed wetland were not recommended because of the possibility of their secondary pollution. The maximum P adsorption capacity of filter media C was 22 mg/kg, but this was increased to 36 mg/kg when filter media C was supplemented with 2% oyster shell.
The microbial degradation, photosensitizer-mediated photolysis, and bioceramic- accelerated degradation of the herbicide imazapyr were investigated using four types of soil. 1. Seven strains of microorganisms isolated from the soil A and the active sludge collected from the waste water disposal plant in CheongJu did not give any distinct degradation products in pure culture. When imazapyr (10ppm) was incubated for 14days with each of the 6strains of the known bacteria, they did not produce any noticeable products, either, suggesting that imazapyr was degraded very little by microorganisms in aqueous media. Meanwhile, when 50ppm of imazapyr was incubated in soil A and B for 6months, a degradation product of m/z 279 was detected. It turned out to be 2-[(1-carbamoyl-1,2-dimethylpropyl)carbamoyl]nicotinic acid, which was formed by the hydrolytic cleavage of the imidazolinone ring and by tautomerism. When imazapyr was exposed to sunlight, degradation rates were 14.6% under the control and 66.0, 76.5, 26.7, and 90.0% in the presence of PS-1 (100ppm), PS-1 (200ppm), PS-2(100ppm), and PS-3(100ppm), respectively, and a degradation product of m/z 149 was tentatively identified in the treatment of PS-1. 2. When soil C and D treated with bioceramic were incubated for 7weeks, the $^{14}C$-activities of $^{14}CO_2$ evolved were 2.03 and 1.12% of the originally applied ones, respectively, whereas those in control soils without bioceramic were 1.88 and 0.82% showing no significant defferences.After 5 weeks, however,the differences in the amounts of $^{14}CO_2$ between the two treatments increased gradually, suggesting the bioceramic effect.
When we bury the infected poultry into the ground, we have many problems such as the difficulty of making sufficient area for burying, environmental contamination by the leachate, unpleasant ordor. Also, in case of burning the carcass of the infected poultry, there are some problems such as high cost, dust, unpleasant odor, etc. It could cause environmental contamination which many peoples and environmental organization complains about. In this study, we develop a treating system which treats the infected poultry carcass in a environmental method preventing the environment contamination. This system is composed of many processes. The euthanasia system uses rigid vinyl to trap and to do a euthanasia the infected poultry with lethal gas, carbon dioxide. And then, with the tractor attached grappler infected poultry carcass could be put into the carcass treating system. The euthanasia system uses rigid vinyl to trap the infected birds and to confine lethal gas, carbon dioxide. Infected poultry carcass are moved to carcass disposal system by collecting device which is attached at tractor. The carcass treatment system (capacity of disposal : 6.3 $m^3$) is installed on a truck and do one pass work, which is input, crush, stir, sterilize, and discharge treated carcass. 1,000 chickens was killed within 9.7min by $CO_2$ (300L/min) in the tent (10 $m^3$). The collecting device could carry 142 chickens at a time, and the movable carcass treatment system could sterilize 2 tons carcass per hour (at one time). This treatment systems was eco-friendly because it reduced the volume of carcass by 31.9% with no wastewater generation.
The objectives of this work was to investigate the effects of feeding type of concentrates during growing period and slaughter age on growth performance, feed efficiency and carcass characteristics in growing-fattening Holstein steers. Treatments were two concentrates feeding types(ad libitum or restricted 1.9% of BW) and three slaughter ages(at 19, 22 or 25 mo). Body weight at slaughter was numerically higher(approx. 8.3%) for the restricted than the ad libitum feeding groups. TDN intake rate was higher(8.4%) for the restricted than the ad libitum feeding groups. One mo slaughter delay increased TDN intake by 4%. Despite the lack of significances, higher back fat thickness and rib-eye area appeared in the restricted feeding or the late slaughter groups compared with the ad libitum feeding or the early slaughter groups. Marbling score(mean 2.46) numerically increased when the steers were restrictively fed concentrates compared with the ad libitum feeding groups. In addition, significant increases in the marbling score were associated with the slaughter age delay. In economic analysis, increases in total income were associated with the restricted feeding and the slaughter age delay. Whereas the highest monthly income appeared in the restricted feeding-and-slaughter at 22 mo group. In conclusion, the optimal feeding system may be 1) the restricted concentrates feeding(1.9% of BW) during growing period and 2) the late slaughter age(22${\sim}$25 mo of age) in growing-fattening Holstein steers fed rice straw.
The objectives of this study were to investigate the genetic characteristics of body weight by growth periods for Hanwoo. A total of 1,736 records were used for body weight. The data for body weights were collected from 1990 to 2000 in Daekwanryong branch, National Livestock Research Institute(NLRI). Estimates of (co)variance components were obtained by derivative-free Restricted Maximum Likelihood (DF-REML). The results are summarized as follows; The means for the weights were 25.60, 79.31, 98.91, 145.40, 283.26, 392.32, 545.65kg at birth, 3, 4, 6, 12, 18, 24month postpartum, respectively. The effects of calving year-season were significant for the milk yield of cow. Heritability estimates of direct genetic effects for birth weight were 0.54(all), 0.52(female), 0.36(male) in modelⅠ, 0.45(all), 0.41(female), 0.24(male) in modelⅡ, and heritabilities estimates of direct genetic effects for 4 month(weaning) weight were 0.47(all), 0.33(female), 0.28(male) in modelⅠ, 0.38(all), 0.21(female), 0.21(male) in modelⅡ. Heritability estimates for male and female data differed from those for combined data. The estimates became smaller for the body weights at 12 month or later(0.13~0.05). The heritabilities of average daily gain were smaller than those for body weights, but showed that the similar pattern to body weights.
Fish fauna of fishes collected from the Saemankum area in the west coast of Chollabuk-do was studied from October 1996 to April 1999. The specimens collected from the five sites in this area were identified into 107 species belonging to 83 genera and 52 families. Of them the largest group of fishes was order Perciformes, comprising 50 species and 21 families, and showed 46.7% in total numbers of species. Next larger groups were orders Scorpaeniformes and Pleuronectiformes containing 16 and 14 species respectively. In this area, the group comprising a lots of species was the family Gobiidae taking 13 species, and next groups were the families of Sciaenidae (6 species), Engraulidae (5 species) and Pleulonectidae (5 species). The dominant species was Engraulis japonicus which is 23.4 % in total indiyidual numbers, and subdominant species was Thryssa kummazensis which is 18.5%. The important species economically in the Saemankum area were Anguilla japonica, E. japonicus, T. kummalensis, Konosirus punctatus, Sardinella zunasi, Mugil cephalus, Argyrosomus argentatus, Pseudosciaena polyactis, Collichthys lucidus, Paralichthys olivuceus and Cynoglossus joyneri. The species of high frequency in this area from February to June every year were Anguilla japonica, E. japonicus, T. kammalensis, K. punctatus, S. zunasi, Coilia nasus, Syngnatuus schlegeli, P. polyactis, C. lucidus and Pholis fangi. Ophichthus rotundus, Repomucenus leucopoecitus and R. koreanus were Korean endemic species in the west coast of Chollabuk-do. On the other hand, Boleophthalmus pectinirostris was not found during this study, and Periophthalmus modertus, Tridentiger barbatus and Lophogobius ocellioauda sharply decreased in individual numbers in comparison to several years ago.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect on the evaluation of a female teachers' role-performance based on appearance according to the clothing attitude of students and their parents. Based on the results of this study a female teachers' role-performance evaluation can be broken down into four ability areas: leaning guidance, living guidance, human relations, and learning management. Likewise the clothing attitudes of students and their parents can be divided into three groups, the clothing oriented group, the trend-individuality group, and the chastity oriented group. The trend-individuality group of students felt that female teachers' appearances have a significant effect on learning guidance and human relations ability while parents thought that there was little relationship or that it has a moderate effect on the role of learning guidance. Because the concerns of students and parents about female teachers' clothing has an effect on female teachers' role performance evaluation, when directing a student group with a high concern for clothing, female teachers need to be sensitive about their appearances and it's affect on learning guidance, human relations, and class management. Based on these results, students and parents felt that female teachers' appearances have an effect on their role performance according to their clothing attitudes.

The purpose of the study is to identify and understand problems existing in the middle school home economics practice rooms in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The findings are based on the examination and the analysis of the indoor environment and the condition of the facilities and equipment. Study method employs on-site research and a survey. The on-site research was conducted about temperature, humidity, intensity of illumination, and status of teaching instrument in 10 out of 41 middle schools in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province from August 16 to September 30, 2006. Meanwhile, the survey was implemented by mail for 95 teachers in charge of manual training and home economics education in 41 middle schools in Jeju from November 1 to 23, 2005. 64 questionnaires out of total 95 were collected, including those collected during the period of on-site research. Finally, 61 questionnaires which were effective among the answered ones were used for analysis. Collected materials were analyzed with the SPSS Win.12.0 program for frequency, percentile analysis. In conclusion, the study determines that the condition of the home economics practice rooms of the middle school in JSSGP in terms of temperature, humidity, lighting and ventilation is very inadequate. The structure of the practice room represents an inefficient work flow pattern. Further, the facilities and equipment are in a very poor condition because the facilities are old and the retention rate of teaching tools is low. Therefore, to address these problems, the study suggests that improvements on the facilities and equipment should be made and teaching tools should be replenished in accordance with the industry standard.
The quality and sensory characteristics of kimchi during fermentation at 15 $^{\circ}C$ were evaluated. Kimchi was prepared with Chineses cabbage which was brined in 10% salt water added dill hot-water extracts(DK) and stevia hot-water extracts(SK) respectively. The pHs and reducing sugar contents of kimchi were decreased with increasing the fermentation time whereas lactic acid(%) was increased. The pH of DK was lower than control, and the lactic acid(%) contents of DK, SK were equal or higher than control in the first stage of fermentation. Also, the reducing sugar contents of DK, SK were lower than control. These results showed that the fermentation of DK and SK were faster than that of control in the first stage of fermentation. But the lactic acid(%) contents of DK, SK were higher than control after the 12th day of fermentation. It showed that it is possible to extend the preservation of kimchi. With increasing fermentation time, the L value of kimchi juice was increased, and the a value was decreased, and the b value was constant. Especially, the a value of DK, SK was higher than control. It meant that DK, SK kept more carotenoids in kimchi than control. On the 6th day of fermentation, the sensory evaluation analyzed by ANOVA followed Duncan's multiple range test showed that the levels of the green smell and the moldy flavor of DK were significantly lower than control(p<0.05) and the levels of the green smell, the green flavor and the moldy smell of SK were significantly lower than control(p<0.05), too. And the level of overall flavor of DK, SK was higher than control. The most preference among experimental groups was SK and then control, DK. The levels of TBARS of DK, SK were generally lower than control, and the level of TBARS of DK was lower than SK.
