  • This study was performed to analyze the item characteristics of competency inventory for designer (CID), which Gil (2011) developed for measurement of design competency. To accomplish the purpose of this study, general partial credit (GPC) model based on polytomous item response theory was applied. The findings were as follows: First, CID is a reliable instrument for measuring design competency. Second, most items of CID have low item discrimination and average item difficulty according to the GPC model. Especially, there are some problems to have low item discrimination in view of validation. To improve the goodness of CID, we will need to examine why CID has low item discrimination.

  • Efficient layout in a fixed work volume reduces build time when multiple parts are built at once in stereolithography systems. An efficient algorithm is developed for 3D layout planning. And it reduces build time and increases efficiency of SLA system. Genetic algorithm is implemented to locate as many parts as possible in the fixed work volume. A 3D collision detection algorithm, k-DOPs Tree, is implemented for the fast evaluation of a layout plan.

  • We have investigated core-levels of ZnO thin films at the interface with the graphene on Cu foil using in-situ X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Spectral evolution of C 1s, Zn 2p, and O 1s are observed in real time during RF sputtering deposition. We found binding energy (BE) shifts of Zn 2p and 'Zn-O' state of O 1s depending on ZnO film thickness. Core-levels BE shifts of ZnO will be discussed on the basis of electron transfer at the interface and it may have an important role in the electronic transport property of the ZnO/graphene-based electronic device.

  • This paper introduces the development process of mobile home CCTV that enables remote control and object recognition using unused smartphones and Arduino. Clients can control motors connected to Arduino through button, enable bidirectional voice communication between client-server and receive video from the server in real time. The server sends a PUSH notification to the client when its battery is low. When the server recognizes the charger, the client's remote control allows the server to dock to the charger and charge it. It was confirmed that video and voice delivery between client and server works well without any problems, and that object recognition works smoothly.

  • By using the radio propagation prediction of Rec. ITU-R P.1546, geographic information system, and S-I plane, we presented the methodology of interference analysis based on the minimum coupling loss, and also suggested the local coordinate system for calculating azimuth and elevation angles between the victim receiver and the interferer for an arbitrary antenna pattern. To check the presented algorithm, the map with the land-sea mixed area was taken for the given area of $80{\times}60[km^2]$ as real geography information. Field strength, path profile, and protection ratio with maximum allowable interference level have been illustrated for radar and fixed wireless system for the assumed frequency. In addition interference power of the victim receiver was calculated asa function of azimuth and elevation angles of the interferer. The developed methodology of interference analysis in the VHF and UHF bands can be actually applied to assess interoperability as well as compatibility in the civil or military applications.

  • In this paper, we propose the methodology of prediction of field strength for a digital television (DTV) receiver by virtue of Recommendation ITU-R P.1546. The curves shown in this recommendation represent the point-to area field strength for 1.0 kW effective radiated power in the 30 MHz ~ 3000 MHz. Based upon the procedures described in this Recommendation, computation results are presented here from the derived formulation of field strength for DTV receiver. To show the validity of this method, some results are compared with the analysis by Okumura-Hata model and it was shown that the error of field strength is in the range of 6.9 ~ 11.5 %. The presented method provides not only the predicted values of field strength for DTV receiving area to check the quality of transmitted signal, but also an appropriate site selection for obtaining good propagation environment. In addition, it can be directly used for analyzing the protection ratio or separated distance for frequency sharing in the same band.

  • In this paper, we propose a calculation methodology of the service distance to assure the satisfactory quality of service for analogue and digital TV receivers. Using the field strength formulation for TV receiver based upon Rec. ITU-R P.1546, computational results are presented and discussed for both systems, and some important factors are reviewed in terms of the equivalent level of service, which must be kept due to ATV to DTV conversion. The presented method provides the predicted values of field strength at receiver areas to check whether transmission quality can be satisfied or not, and it can be also used for obtaining the protection ratio or separated distance from co-channel or adjacent interference signal.

  • A total of 98 vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF) isolates (58 isolates from patients and 40 isolates from poultry) were compared based on their antimicrobial susceptibility, Tn1546 element organization, and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. This comparison aided in determining the relationships between the groups of isolates. All the VREF isolates harbored the vanA gene; however, 29 (29.6%) of the isolates exhibited the VanB phenotype-vanA genotype. Furthermore, the VREF isolates from humans and poultry exhibited distinct antimicrobial resistance patterns. The PCR mapping of the Tn1546 elements exhibited 12 different transposon types (A to L). The VREF isolates of poultry were classified into types A to D, whereas the human isolates were classified into types E to L. A PFGE analysis demonstrated a high degree of clonal heterogeneity in both groups of isolates; however, the distinct VREF clones appeared in each group of isolates. The deletion of the vanX-vanY genes or insertion of IS1216V in the intergenic region from the vanX-vanY genes is directly associated with the incongruence of the VanB phenotype-vanA genotype in human VREF isolates. These data suggest that the VREF isolates exhibit distinct phenotypic and genotypic traits according to their origins, which suggests that no evidence exists to substantiate the clonal spread or transfer of vancomycin resistance determinants between humans and poultry.
