Differences in Manufacturing Process and Quality between Cheonggukjang for Use in the Raw and Cheonggukjang for Stew

  • When cheonggukjgang was manufactured using a Bacillus subtilis CH10-1 starter culture, a short-term fermentation for 14-18 hr appeared to be the optimal for the raw cheonggukjang to avoid the formation of a bitter taste and to contain a high concentration of free sugars, whereas a long-term fermentation for more than 4 days was the optimal for the cheonggukjang for stew in order to contain a high concentration of free amino and organic acids, which are responsible for sweet, savory, and bitter tastes present in stewed cheonggukjang, During activation of murine splenic T cells with phytohemagglutinin (PHA), the presence of either poly-$\gamma$-glutamic acid ($\gamma$-PGA) or partially hydrolyzed $\gamma$-PGA resulted in reduction in the level of interferon-$\gamma$ production and enhancement in the level of interleukin-5 production, possibly due to suppression of Th1 activity and augmentation of Th2 activity. Taken together these results indicate that the raw cheonggukjang and the cheonggukjang for stew are different in their quality and taste as well as immunomodulating activity.

CYTRIP: A Multi-day Trip Planning System based on Crowdsourced POIs Recommendation (CYTRIP: 크라우드 소싱을 이용한 POI 추천 기반의 여행 플래닝 시스템)

  • Multi-day trip itinerary planning is complex and time consuming task, from selecting a list of worth visiting POIs to arranging them into an itinerary with various constraints and requirements. In this paper, we present CYTRIP, a multi-day trip itinerary planning system that engages human computation (i.e. crowd recommendation) to collaboratively recommend POIs by providing a shared workspace. CYTRIP takes input the collective intelligence of crowd (i.e. recommended POIs) to build a multi-day trip itinerary taking into account user's preferences, various time constraints and locations. Furthermore, we explain how we engage crowd in our system. The planning problem and domain are formulated as AI planning using PDDL3. The preliminary empirical experiments show that our domain formulation is applicable to both single-day and multi-day trip planning.

Design optimization of GaN diode with p-GaN multi-well structure for high-efficiency betavoltaic cell

  • In this work, we propose and design a GaN-based diode with a p-doped GaN (p-GaN) multi-well structure for high efficiency betavoltaic (BV) cells. The short-circuit current density (JSC) and opencircuit voltage (VOC) of the devices were investigated with variations of parameters such as the doping concentration, height, width of the p-GaN well region, well-to-well gap, and number of well regions. The JSC of the device was significantly improved by a wider depletion area, which was obtained by applying the multi-well structure. The optimized device achieved a higher output power density by 8.6% than that of the conventional diode due to the enhancement of JSC. The proposed device structure showed a high potential for a high efficiency BV cell candidate.

Influences on Distribution of Solute Atoms in Cu-8Fe Alloy Solidification Process Under Rotating Magnetic Field

  • A rotating magnetic field (RMF) was applied in the solidification process of Cu-8Fe alloy. Focus on the mechanism of RMF on the solid solution Fe(Cu) atoms in Cu-8Fe alloy, the influences of RMF on solidification structure, solute distribution, and material properties were discussed. Results show that the solidification behavior of Cu-Fe alloy have influenced through the change of temperature and solute fields in the presence of an applied RMF. The Fe dendrites were refined and transformed to rosettes or spherical grains under forced convection. The solute distribution in Cu-rich phase and Fe-rich phase were changed because of the variation of the supercooling degree and the solidification rate. Further, the variation in solute distribution was impacted the strengthening mechanism and conductive mechanism of the material.

  • The network environment is presently becoming very increased. Accordingly, the study of traffic classification for network management is becoming difficult. Automatic signature extraction system is a hot topic in the field of traffic classification research. However, existing automatic payload signature generation systems suffer problems such as semi-automatic system, generating of disposable signatures, generating of false-positive signatures and signatures are not kept up to date. Therefore, we provide a fully automatic signature update system that automatically performs all the processes, such as traffic collection, signature generation, signature management and signature verification. The step of traffic collection automatically collects ground-truth traffic through the traffic measurement agent (TMA) and traffic management server (TMS). The step of signature management removes unnecessary signatures. The step of signature generation generates new signatures. Finally, the step of signature verification removes the false-positive signatures. The proposed system can solve the problems of existing systems. The result of this system to a campus network showed that, in the case of four applications, high recall values and low false-positive rates can be maintained.

Prediction of Bending Fatigue Life of Cracked Out-of-Plane Gusset Joint Repaired by CFRP Plates

  • Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), plates bonding repair method is one of the simple repair methods for cracked steel structures. In this study, the influence of width of CFRP plates on bending fatigue life of out-of-plane gusset joint strengthened with CFRP plates was investigated from the experimental and numerical point of view. In the bending fatigue test of cracked out-of-plane gusset joint strengthened with CFRP plates, the effect of width of CFRP plates on crack growth life was clarified experimentally. Namely, it was revealed that the crack growth life becomes larger with increasing the width of CFRP plates. In the numerical approach, the stress intensity factor (SIF) at the surface point of a semi-elliptical surface crack was estimated based on the linear fracture mechanics. Furthermore, the extended fatigue life of cracked out-of-plane gusset joint strengthened with CFRP plates was evaluated by using the estimated SIF at the surface point and the empirical formula of the aspect ratio of semi-elliptical crack. As the results of numerical analysis, the estimated fatigue life of the specimen strengthened with CFRP plates showed the good agreement with the test results.

Isovitexin Protects Mice from Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus-Induced Pneumonia by Targeting Sortase A

  • The rise of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has resulted in significant morbidity and mortality, and clinical treatment of MRSA infections has become extremely difficult. Sortase A (SrtA), a virulence determinant that anchors numerous virulence-related proteins to the cell wall, is a prime druggable target against S. aureus infection due to its crucial role in the pathogenicity of S. aureus. Here, we demonstrate that isovitexin, an active ingredient derived from a variety of traditional Chinese medicines, can reversibly inhibit SrtA activity in vitrowith a low dose (IC50=24.72 ㎍/ml). Fluorescence quenching and molecular simulations proved the interaction between isovitexin and SrtA. Subsequent point mutation experiments further confirmed that the critical amino acid positions for SrtA binding to isovitexin were Ala-92, Ile-182, and Trp-197. In addition, isovitexin treatment dramatically reduced S. aureus invasion of A549 cells. This study shows that treatment with isovitexin could alleviate pathological injury and prolong the life span of mice in an S. aureus pneumonia model. According to our research, isovitexin represents a promising lead molecule for the creation of anti-S. aureus medicines or adjuncts.

  • 기존의 SaaSpia 플랫폼에서는 오브젝트간의 연관 관계를 표현하지 않아, 개발자가 SaaSpia 플랫폼 기반 어플리케이션을 개발하는 데 어려움을 겪는다. 본 논문에서는 오브젝트간 연관 관계를 메타데이타로 표현하고, 해당 정보를 이용해 기본 비즈니스 로직 및 사용자 인터페이스(UI)를 동적으로 구성하는 개발 방안에 대해 제안한다. 동적으로 구성된 기본 비즈니스 로직과 UI 는 다시 메타데이타화하여 저장되어 다중 사용자 지원 및 용이한 환경 설정을 가능하게 한다.

Robust transformer-based anomaly detection for nuclear power data using maximum correntropy criterion

  • Due to increasing operational security demands, digital and intelligent condition monitoring of nuclear power plants is becoming more significant. However, establishing an accurate and effective anomaly detection model is still challenging. This is mainly because of data characteristics of nuclear power data, including the lack of clear class labels combined with frequent interference from outliers and anomalies. In this paper, we introduce a Transformer-based unsupervised model for anomaly detection of nuclear power data, a modified loss function based on the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) is applied in the model training to improve the robustness. Experimental results on simulation datasets demonstrate that the proposed Trans-MCC model achieves equivalent or superior detection performance to the baseline models, and the use of the MCC loss function is proven can obviously alleviate the negative effect of outliers and anomalies in the training procedure, the F1 score is improved by up to 0.31 compared to Trans-MSE on a specific dataset. Further studies on genuine nuclear power data have verified the model's capability to detect anomalies at an earlier stage, which is significant to condition monitoring.

Shelf-Life Extension of Fresh-Cut Iceberg Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L) by Different Antimicrobial Films

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antibacterial activity and shelf-life extension effect of iceberg lettuce packed in BN/PE film. The BN/PE film has a strong microbial suppression effect on pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, and S. typhimurium. The number of psychrophiles and mesophiles during 5 days of cold storage of fresh-cut iceberg lettuce at $10^{\circ}C$ packaged in BN/PE film was strictly suppressed in comparison with other tested films (OPP, PE, and PET film). When fresh processed iceberg lettuce was processed and stored under the current conditions, the shelf-life of the product was longer than 5 days in the BN/PE film package, whereas the shelf-life when using the other films tested, PE, OPP and PET, was no longer than 3-4 days. The decay rates of the iceberg lettuce packed in the BN/PE film was maintained at $29.8{\pm}2.1%$ on the 5th day of preservation. The samples packed in BN/PE film maintained an excellent visual quality during the 3 days of storage without significant differences in comparison with the initial visual quality. No browning was observed in the samples packed in BN/PE film for up to 3 days. The texture of shredded iceberg lettuce packaged in BN/PE film remained unchanged up to 3 days, and then a moderate decrease in texture was observed after 4 days of storage. In addition, the overall acceptability of fresh-cut iceberg lettuce packaged in BN/PE film did not change for up to 3 days, whereas the samples packaged in the other films were inedible by 3 days of storage. In conclusion, the shelf-life of fresh-cut iceberg lettuce packaged in the BN/PE film was extended to more than 5 days at $10^{\circ}C$, whereas that in the other films was 2 days at $10^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the shelf-life extension effect of the fresh-cut iceberg lettuce in BN/PE film packaging was very effective compared with the other films tested.
