S-대역 고효율 Pallet 전력증폭기 모듈 설계 (Design of an High Efficiency Pallet Power Amplifier Module)

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a high-efficiency GaN HEMT(Gallium Nitride High-electron Mobility Transistor) Pallet power amplifier module for S-band phased array radar applications. Pallet amplifier module has a series 2-cascaded power amplifier and the final amplification-stage consists of balanced GaN HEMT transistor. In order to achieve high efficiency characteristic of pallet power amplifier module, all amplifiers are designed to the switching-mode amplifier. We performed with various PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) of 1, 10, 100 and 1000Hz at a fixed pulse width of $100{\mu}s$. In the experimental results, the output power, gain, and drain efficiency(${\eta}_{total}$) of the Pallet power amplifier module are 300W, 33dB, and 51% at saturated output power of 2.9GHz, respectively.

An In-Band Noise Filtering 32-tap FIR-Embedded ΔΣ Digital Fractional-N PLL

  • This paper presents a 1.9-GHz digital ${{\Delta}{\Sigma}}$ fractional-N PLL with a finite impulse response (FIR) filter embedded for noise suppression. The proposed digital implementation of FIR provides a simple method of increasing the number of taps without complicated calculation for gain matching. This work demonstrates 32 tap FIR filtering for the first time and successfully filtered the in-band phase noise generated from delta-sigma modulator (DSM). Design considerations are also addressed to find the optimum number of taps when the resolution of time-to-digital converter (TDC) is given. The PLL, fabricated in $0.11-{\mu}m$ CMOS, achieves a well-regulated in-band phase noise of less than -100 dBc/Hz for the entire range inside the bandwidth of 3 MHz. Compared with the conventional dual-modulus division, the proposed PLL shows an overall noise suppression of about 15dB both at in-band and out-of-band region.

Super-giant Magneto-Impedance Effect of a LC-resonator Using a Glass-Coated Amorphous Microwire

  • A new discovery of the super-giant magneto-impedance (SGMI) effect was found out in a LC-resonator consisted of a glass-coated amorphous $CO_{83.2}B_{3.3}Si_{5.9}Mn_{7.6}$ microwire. The measurement was carried out at high frequency range from 100 MHz up to 1 GHz of an ac-current flowing along the wire and at varying axial dcmagnetic field in its range of $\pm$120 Oe. The wires, about 16${\mu}m$ in diameter, were fabricated by a glass-coated melt spinning technique. The shape of the impedance curves plotted vs. a dc-field is changing dramatically with the frequency. The phase angle was also strongly dependent on this field. The external dc-magnetic field changes the circumferential permeability as well as the penetration depth, both in turn change the impedance of the sample. The drastic increments of SGMI at high frequency can be understood in terms of the LC-resonance phenomena. The sudden change of the phase angle, as large as $180^{\circ}$ evidenced the occurrence of the resonance at a given intensity of the external dc-field. The maximum ratio of SGMI reached in the experiment by precise tuning frequency equals 450,000% at the frequency of around 551.9075 MHz.

FeSiCr 박편/폴리머 복합 시트의 전자파 흡수 특성에 미치는 자성분말 입도의 영향 (Effects of Magnetic Powder Size on Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Characteristics in FeSiCr Flakes/Polymer Composite Sheets)

  • The effects of magnetic powder size on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in Fe-6.5Si-0.9Cr(wt%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The composite sheet including small magnetic flakes with the size less than $26{\mu}m$ exhibited high power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets having large alloy flakes of $45{\sim}75{\mu}m$. Moreover, both the complex permeability and the loss factor increased with the decrease in size of the alloy flakes. The large power loss of the sheets containing small magnetic flakes was attributed to the high complex permeability, especially their imaginary part. The high complex permeability of the sheets composed of small flakes was considered to be due to the highly thin shape of the flakes inducing low eddy-current loss.

비기상에코 제거를 위한 X-밴드 기상레이더 품질관리 기술 개발 (Development of X-Band weather radar quality control technology for non-weather echo removal)

  • 기상레이더는 대류권의 기상 관측에 널리 사용되며, 기상예보를 비롯하여 항공, 농업, 수문학 등 다양한 분야에서 활용하고 있다. 기상레이더센터는 SSPA(Solid State Power Amplifier) 기반 X-Band 주파수대역(9GHz)을 사용하는 연구용 소형기상레이더 관측망을 운영하고 있다. 주로 수도권 저층 대기에서 발생하는 위험 기상현상을 1분 단위로 빠르게 관측하면서 정확한 강수 정보생산을 위한 연구를 수행하고 있다. 레이더 관측 자료는 전파를 이용하여 넓은 범위에 분포하는 눈, 비, 우박 등 대기수상체를 관측하여, 강수량 추정을 통해 강수 정보를 생산한다. 이에 따라 레이더 관측 자료의 정확성과 신뢰도를 높이기 위해서 레이더 품질관리 기술 적용은 필수적이다. 기상레이더센터는 소형기상레이더로 관측한 이중편파 자료의 효과적인 품질관리를 위한 각종 자료처리 모듈을 개발하여, 실시간 자료처리 프로그램에 적용하였다. 우선, 저층 대기 관측 시 기상에코와 더불어 강한 반사도로 나타나는 지형에코를 판별하는 모듈과 선형 또는 쐐기형태의 전파간섭에코를 비롯한 비기상에코를 효과적으로 제거하는 기술을 개발하였다. 다음으로, X-Band 주파수대역 기상레이더 관측 자료의 취약점인 강한 강수 시 발생하는 반사도 감쇠 현상을 보정하기 위한 기술도 개발하였다. 소형기상레이더 품질관리 개발과 적용을 통하여 생산된 자료는 HSR(Hybrid Surface Rainfall), 레이더 강수량 추정, 대기수상체 등 다양한 기상 산출물 생산과 동시에 기상 감시 및 연구 분야에 효과적으로 활용하고 있다.

Zn2-2xSi1+xO4 세라믹스의 소결 및 마이크로파 유전 특성 (Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of Zn2-2xSi1+xO4 Ceramics)

  • Sintering and microwave dielectric properties of $Zn_{2-2x}Si_{1+x}O_4$ (x=0~0.10) ceramics were investigated. The secondary phase of ZnO was observed in the specimen for x=0 whereas $SiO_2$ was detected in that for x=0.05. The composition of $Zn_2SiO_4$ might be close to x=0.02, i.e., $Zn_{1.96}Si_{1.02}O_4$; the ratio of Zn/Si is 1.922. The insufficient grain growth was observed in the specimen of x=0. For the specimens of $x{\geq}0.05$, the grain growth sufficiently occurred through the liquid phase sintering. The value of quality factor of all specimens was dependent on the x value, i.e., the ratio of Zn/Si, whereas that of dielectric constant was independent. Relative density, dielectric constant, and quality factor ($Q{\times}f$) of the specimen for x=0.05, i.e., $Zn_{1.9}Si_{1.05}O_4$, sintered at $1,400^{\circ}C$ were 96.5%, 6.43, and 115,166 GHz, respectively.

  • Microwave dielectric properties of $Ca(Li_{1/4}Nb_{3/4})O_3-CaTiO_3$ ceramic systems were investigated with calcination temperatures and amounts of $CaTiO_3$ in the range of 0.2 to 0.4mol. $Ca(Li_{1/4}Nb_{3/4})O_3$ ceramics having orthorhombic crystal structure could be synthesized at $750^{\circ}C$ and sintered well at $1250^{\circ}C$. They showed the dielectric constant of 26, quality factor($Q{\times}f_o$) of 13,000 and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_f$) of $-49{\pm}2ppm/^{\circ}C$ With adding the $CaTiO_3$ amount the dielectric constant and ${\tau}_f$ increased due to the solute of $CaTiO_3$ but the quality factor decreased. The 0.7$Ca(Li_{1/4}Nb_{3/4})O_3-0.3CaTiO_3$ ceramic showed the dielectric constant of 44, quality factor($Q{\times}f_o$) of 12,000 and ${\tau}_f$ of $-9{\pm}1ppm/^{\circ}C$.

Physical and Microwave Dielectric Properties of the MgO-SiO2 System

  • Unreported dielectrics based on the binary system of MgO-SiO$_2$ were investigated as potential candidates for microwave dielectric applications, particularly those demanding a high fired density and high quality factors. Extensive dielectric compositions having different molar ratios of MgO to SiO$_2$, such as 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1, were prepared by conventional solid state reactions between MgO and SiO$_2$. 1 mol% of V$_2$O$_5$ was added to aid sintering for improved densification. The dielectric compositions were found to consist of two distinguishable phases of Mg$_2$SiO$_4$ and MgO beyond the 2:1 compositional ratio, which determined the final physical and dielectric properties of the corresponding composite samples. The increase of the ratio of MgO to SiO$_2$ tended to improve fired density and quality factor (Q) without increasing grain size. As a promising composition, the 5MgO.SiO$_2$ sample sintered at 1400 $^{\circ}C$ exhibited a low dielectric constant of 7.9 and a high Q $\times$ f (frequency) value of $\sim$99,600 at 13.7 GHz.

FDTD 방법을 이용한 휴대폰 전파의 인체 흡수전력량 산출 (Computation of Absorbed Power adiated from a Portable Phone Using FDTD)

  • 본 논문은 유한차분 시간영역 해석법(Finite-Difference Time-Domain method)을 사용하여 1.8 GHz용 휴대폰으로부터 방출된 전파의 인체 두부에 흡수된 전력량을 산출하였다. 이를 위하여 인체 두부를 7층 매질로 모델령하였고, 휴대폰은 금속상자에 부착된 모노폴 안테나로 모텔링하였다. 모델링에 사용된 인체 두부와 휴대폰의 크기는 상용의 크기를 갖도록 하였다. 이를 위하여 모노폴 안테나의 길이는 4.5 em으로 하였다. 설정된 모텔링하에서 인체의 위해 정도를 알려주는 지수인 비흡수율(SAR-Specific Absorption Rat te)의 분포를 계산하였고 그 결과 비홉수율이 최대가 되는 지점은 인체 두뇌의 깊숙한 점이 아닌 두부의 표피근 방임을 알게 되었다. 그리고 설정된 조건하에서 그 최대치는 1.4 mW/g이었는데, 이는 국제 권고치인 1.6 mW/g보다 약간 작은 값이었다.

Attenuation Effects of Plasma on Ka-Band Wave Propagation in Various Gas and Pressure Environments

  • This work demonstrates attenuation effects of plasma on waves propagating in the 26.5-40 GHz range. The effect is investigated via experiments measuring the transmission between two Ka-band horn antennas set 30 cm apart. A dielectric-barrier-discharge (DBD) plasma generator with a size of $200mm{\times}100mm{\times}70mm$ and consisting of 20 layers of electrodes is placed between the two antennas. The DBD generator is placed in a $400mm{\times}300mm{\times}400mm$ acrylic chamber so that the experiments can be performed for plasma generated under various conditions of gas and pressure, for instance, in air, Ar, and He environments at 0.001, 0.05, and 1 atm of pressure. Attenuation is calculated by the difference in the transmission level, with and without plasma, which is generated with a bias voltage of 20 kV in the 0.1-1.4 kHz range. Results show that the attenuation varies from 0.05 dB/m to 9.0 dB/m depending on the environment. Noble gas environments show higher levels of attenuation than air, and He is lossier than Ar. In all gas environments, attenuation increases as pressure increases. Finally, electromagnetic models of plasmas generated in various conditions are provided.
