  • This study identified heart response of participants while listening to sounds which have 1/f fluctuations with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient. The participants were engaged in emotional stress work. Prior studies related to 1/f fluctuation sound have reported that sound source can alleviate psychological and physiological state of users. Subjects of this study were exposed to sound with three levels of ${\alpha}$ gradient. Heart response of subjects were measured with Photoplethysmography(PPG) sensor simultaneously. The dependent variables of this study were beat per minute(BPM), very low frequency percent of pulse rate variability (VLF percent), the standard deviation of all normal RR intervals (SDNN), and high frequency power(HF power). Subject showed arousal response when exposed to sound with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient of 3 whereas the sound with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient of 1 and 2 resulted in relax effect. The characteristic of 1/f fluctuation sounds can be applied to alleviate stress for employers under emotional labor.

  • Fading of Chlorantine Fast Red 5B (C.I. Direct Red 81) on cotton fabric exposed to carbon are light was examined. It was observed that the dye had anomaly in CF curve slope, while normal in CFG one. Auther considered that the reason for discrepancy of the one with the other curve slope might be appeared from Weber-Fechner law, and derived following equation $F_v=[logC_0-log(C_0-C_0F_t/100)]{\times}100/(logC_0+b)$ where $F_t$; the proportion of dye faded after t hour exposure. $F_v$; the proportion of dye faded after t hour exposure, when a pattern is judged by visual method $C_0$; initial dye concentration. b; constant. also, the reason for increasing lightfastness with dye concentration was discussed on view of the above equation.

  • This study investigates the prosodic characteristics of Korean through the analysis of a large database. One female and one male speakers each read 650 sentences and they were segmentally and prosodically labeled. Statistical analyses were done on these utterances regarding the tonal pattern and the size of prosodic units, correlation between the size of higher level prosodic units and the number of lower level prosodic units. and the slope and F0 of the falling and rising contours of an accentual phrase. The results showed that the duration and the number of words and syllables of a prosodic unit were significantly different not only between speakers but also between its positions within a higher level prosodic nit. The munber of a prosodic unit showed a high correlation with the duration and the number of syllables of its higher level units. The slope of the falling contour within an accentual phrase was inversely Proportional to the number of its syllables. The slope was different depending on the first tone type of an accentual phrase, which could be explained with the F0 rising and the different amount of rising between tones when an accentual phrase starts with an H tone. The slope of the falling contour across an accentual phrase boundary showed a constant and larger value compared to one within an accentual phrase. The rising contours in the beginning and end of an accentual Phrase were similar in their slopes but they differ in the amount of F0 change : the former showed a larger amount of change. The slope of the rising contour which forms an accentual Phrase on its own was inversely Proportional to the number of its syllables.

  • This paper has been prepared to compare the safety factor of Fellenius method and Bishop method which are most frequantly utilized for stability analysis of dam and natural slope. The results are as follows. 1. Safety factor obtained by Bishop method shows 11-29% higher in steady seepage state and 46-57% higher in no seepage flow than the one by Fellenius. 2. The ratio of safety factor between no seepage flow and seepage flow ($F_1-F_2/F_2$) increases as the slope becomes flatter. 3. The ratio of safety factor between Bishop method and Fellenius ($F_B-F_F/F_F$) decreases as the slope becomes flatter.

  • In this study we measured oxidation potentials and current densities for poly(vinylcholride) (PVC) and poly(carbonate)(PC) in nonaqueous solutions, in order to find out how corrosion (oxidation) potentials depend on temperature, pH, enzyme, or added salts. The Tafel's slopes were determined from the Tafel plots of polarization curves. The transfer coefficients (${\alpha}$) wre evaluated from the slope(1-${\alpha}$)nF/2.3 RT, and the electrode reactions appeared irreversible under all conditions.

  • This paper proposes method to find the subjective satisfaction index of an air-conditioner using consumer's sensory evaluation for an air-conditioner. A satisfaction index of an air-conditioner is presented the annoyance and freshness as ${\alphs}$, ${\beta}$ exponents of 1/f slope and is changed the annoyance and freshness as exponents of 1/f slope are changed. The satisfaction index of an air-conditioner is not improved if SPL is above the proper level although the 1/f slope has optimal ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ values. Therefore, this paper proposes the satisfaction index of an air-conditioner considered both SPL and ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ exponents of 1/f slope.

  • X-ray diffraction method detects change of crystal lattice distance under material surface using diffraction angle 2$\theta$. This technique can be applied to the behavior on slip band and micro crack due to material degradation. The relation between half-value breadth and number of cycle has three stages which constitute rapid decrease in initial number of cycles, slight decrease in middle number of cycles and rapid decrease in final number of cycles. The ratio of half-value breadth takes a constant value on B/B$_{0}$-N diagram with loading condition except early part of fatigue life. The ratio of half-value breadth B/B$_{0}$ with respect to number of cycle to failure N$_{f}$ has linear behavior on B/B$_{0}$-log N$_{f}$ diagram. Therefore, in this paper the estimation of fatigue life by average gradient method has much less estimated mean error than the estimation of fatigue life by log B/B$_{0}$-log N/N$_{f}$ relation.elation.ation.

  • We measured the variations of potentials and current densities for several polymers. The results were carefully examined to identify various factors such as temperature and pH to influence the potential and rate. The Tafel slope for anodic dissolution was determined by the polarization effect under these conditions. The optimum conditions were established for each case. The second anodic current density peak and maximum current density were designated as the relative polarization sensitivity $(I_r/I_f)$. The mass-transfer coefficient value $({\alpha})$ was determined by the Tafel slope for anodic dissolution on the basis of the polarization effect under optimum conditions.

  • The aim of this study is to prepare basic data that can be used for evaluation and intervention by investigating the characteristics of diphthongs produced by children with speech sound disorders. To confirm this, two groups of 10 children each, with and without speech sound disorders were asked to imitate the meaningless two-syllable 'diphthongs + da'. The slope of F1 and F2, amount of change of formant, and duration of glide were analyzed by Praat (version 6.1.16). As a result, the difference between the two groups was found in the slope of F1 of /ju/. Children with speech sound disorders had smaller changes in formants and shorter duration time values compared to normal children, and there were statistically significant differences. The amount of change in formant in the glide was found in F1 of /ju, jɛ/, F2 of /jɑ, jɛ/, and there were significant differences in the duration of glide in /ju, jɛ/. The results of this study showed that the range of articulation of diphthongs in children with speech sound disorders is relatively smaller than that of normal children, thus the time it takes to articulate was reduced. These results suggest that the range of articulation and acoustic analysis should be further investigated for evaluation and intervention regarding diphthongs of children with speech sound disorders.

  • Computational results from Navier-Stokes equations are presented for the Stokes-wave/flat-plate boundary-layer and wake for small wave steepness(Ak=0.01), including exact and approximate treatments of the viscous free-surface boundary conditions. The macro-scale flow indicate that the variations of the external-flow pressure gradients cause acceleration or deceleration of the streamwise velocity component and alternating direction of the cross flow. Remarkably, the wake displays a greater response, i.e., a bias with regard to favorable as compared to adverse pressure gradients. The micro-scale flow indicates that the free-surface boundary conditions have a profound influence over the boundary layer and near/intermediate wake. Order-of-magnitude estimates are conformed to the computational results. And appreciable errors are introduced through approximations to the free-surface boundary conditions.
