Recently, Japan's Meteorological Research Institute presented the d4PDF database (Database for Policy Decision-Making for Future Climate Change, d4PDF) through large-scale climate ensemble simulations to overcome uncertainty arising from variability when the general circulation model represents extreme-scale precipitation. In this study, the change of precipitation characteristics between the historical and future climate conditions in the Yongdam-dam basin was analyzed using the d4PDF data. The result shows that annual mean precipitation and seasonal mean precipitation increased by more than 10% in future climate conditions. This study also performed an analysis on the change of the return period rainfall. The annual maximum daily rainfall was extracted for each climatic condition, and the rainfall with each return period was estimated. In this process, we represent the extreme-scale rainfall corresponding to a very long return period without any statistical model and method as the d4PDF provides rainfall data during 3,000 years for historical climate conditions and during 5,400 years for future climate conditions. The rainfall with a 50-year return period under future climate conditions exceeded the rainfall with a 100-year return period under historical climate conditions. Consequently, in future climate conditions, the magnitude of rainfall increased at the same return period and, the return period decreased at the same magnitude of rainfall. In this study, by using the d4PDF data, it was possible to analyze the change in extreme magnitude of rainfall.

Since groundwater flow paths have one of the major roles to transport the radioactive nuclides from the radioactive waste repository to the biosphere, the discrete fracture network model is used for the rock block scale flow instead of the porous continuum model. This study aims to construct a three dimensional discrete fracture network to interpret the groundwater flow system in the study site. The modeling work includes the determination of the probabilistic distribution function from the fracture geometric and hydraulic parameters, three dimensional fracture modeling and model calibration. The results of the constant pressure tests performed in a fixed interval length at boreholes indicate that the flow dimension around boreholes shows mainly radial to spherical flow pattern. The fracture transmissivity value calculated by Cubic law is 6.12${\times}$10$\^$-7/ ㎡/sec with lognormal distribution. The conductive fracture intensity estimated by FracMan code is 1.73. Based on this intensity, the total number of conductive fractures are obtained as 3,080 in the rock block of 100 m${\times}$100 m${\times}$100 m.
A series of hydraulic model tests have been conducted for a Parshall flume which was designed for streamflow measurements of two experimental basins in Banwol New Industrial Town. the purpose being to study the effect of urbanizations on the watershed hydrology. The model scale was determined based on the 100-year flood discharge of the basins considering the discharge cf the basins considering the discharge capacity of the hydraulic laboratory where the whole tests were conducted. The calibration equations for depth-discharge relations were derived by analyzing the model test data and were compared with those of Parshall's work. The discharge calibration for the prototype flume, which is to be constructed at the outlets of the experimental basins, was obtained through the analysis of data converted from the model test data by the laws of similarity.

The regional-scale transient groundwater-river interaction model is developed to gain a better understanding of the regional-scale relationships and interactions between groundwater and river system and quantify the residual river flow after groundwater abstraction from the aquifers with climate variability in the Waimea Plains, New Zealand. The effect of groundwater abstraction and climate variability on river flows is evaluated by calculating river flows at the downstream area for three different drought years (a 1 in 10 drought year, 1 in 20 drought year, and 1 in 24 drought year) and an average year with metered water abstraction data. The effect of future water demand (50 year projection) on river flows is also evaluated. A significant increase in the occurrence of zero flow, or very low flow of 100 L/sec at the downstream area is predicted due to large groundwater abstraction increase with climate variability. Modeling results shows the necessity of establishing dynamic cutback scenarios of water usage to users over the period of drought conditions considering different climate variability from current allocation limit to reduce the occurrence of low flow conditions at the downstream area.

Vegetation canopy plays an important role in $CO_2$/$H_2$O exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere by controlling leaf stomata. In this study, rice (Oryza sativa L.), a staple crop in Asia was investigated to formulate its single leaf model of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance. Photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were measured with a portable infrared gas analyzer system. Other plant and meteorological variables were also measured. To evaluate empirical constants in this biochemical leaf model, nonlinear least squares technique was used. The maximum catalytic activity of enzyme and the maximum rate of electron transport were $ 100\mu$㏖ $m^{-2}$$s^{-1}$ and $140 \mu$㏖ m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ (@ 35$^{\circ}C$), respectively. The empirical constants, m and b, associated with stomatal conductance model were 9.7 and $0.06 m^{-2}$$s^{-1}$ , respectively. On a leaf scale, agreements between the modeled and the measured values of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were on average within 20%, and the simulation of diurnal variation was also satisfactory On a canopy scale, the Simple Biosphere model(SiB2) was tested using the derived parameters. The modeled energy fluxes were compared against the micrometeorologically measured fluxes over a rice canopy. Agreements between the modeled and the measured values of net radiation, sensible heat and latent heat fluxes, and $CO_2$ flux (i.e., net canopy photosynthesis) were on average within 25%.
During the performance of large scale tidal land reclamation project along the coast line, the construction of large scale structures such as sea-dikes, closing estuaries will induce big changes of near-shore hydraulic behavior. In this paper, its is aimed to verify the change of tide and currents after the construction of sea-dike of the Saemangeum project along the coast line. Numerical scale model "TRISULA" which development by Delft Hydraulics in the Netherlands was used. "TRISULA" is adopting the finite difference numerical scheme, and mostly using for hydro-dynamic solution along the sea and estuaries. Model boundary is covering $100{\times}170$ Km and constructed with $133{\times}337$ grids. Outer side boundary is divided 48 sections, and input 37 tidal components are gained from another big scale numerical "Yellow Sea" model. Model calibrations & verifications were performed th field tide & current datas which were measured along sea-dike alignment during Aug. $1997{\sim}Apr$. 1999. And then, numerical simulation with the tide condition dated 17 Apr. 1999 was performed with & without sea-dike construction condition for the comparison. Evaluated boundary is 20 km out-side from sea-dike alignment. Four cross lanes were set up, each of lane contains 3 points, for the comparison of sea-dike construction effects. Results showing the tidal amplitude is reducing approximately 20 cm after the construction of sea-dike during spring tide condition, amplitude 6.9m. Currents after construction of sea-dikes along the alignment, the northern part shows 50%(inner), 90%(outer) and the southern part shows 10%(inner) 50%(outer) of the currents before construction.
Recently, GIS(Geographic Information System) is used to extract various hydrological factors from DEM(Digital Elevation Model) in river basin. Therefore, this study aims at the determination of river fractal dimension using DEM. In this paper, the main-stream length in river basin was grid-analyzed for each scale(1/5,000, 1/25,000, 1/50,000) and each cell size(5m$\times$5m, l0m$\times$l0m, 20m$\times$20m, 30m$\times$30m, 40m$\times$40m, 50m$\times$50m, 60m$\times$60m, 70m$\times$70m, 80m$\times$80m, 90m$\times$90m, 100m$\times$l00m, 120m$\times$120m, 150m$\times$150m) using GIS. Also, fractal dimension was derived by analyzing correlation among main-stream lengths, scale, and cell size which were calculated here. The result of calculating fractal dimension for each cell size shows that the fractal dimension on the main-stream length is 1.028.

In this paper, we have presented the simulation results about threshold voltage of nano scale lightly doped drain (LDD) MOSFET with halo doping profile. Device size is scaled down from 100nm to 40nm using generalized scaling. We have investigated the threshold voltage for constant field scaling and constant voltage scaling using the Van Dort Quantum Correction Model (QM) and direct tunneling current for each gate oxide thickness. We know that threshold voltage is decreasing in the constant field scaling and increasing in the constant voltage scaling when gate length is reducing, and direct tunneling current is increasing when gate oxide thickness is reducing. To minimize the roll off characteristics for threshold voltage of MOSFET with decreasing channel length, we know $\alpha$ value must be nearly 1 in the generalized scaling.
Top Base Foundation (TBF) is widely used for the increment of bearing capacity and restraining settlement of foundations when the bearing capacity of ground is not enough. The design of bearing capacity obtained from exiting Japanese standard underestimates considerably what is compared with the observation values from the field measurement. Therefore, intensive model tests and site observation programs are carried out to establish more reasonable prediction technique and understanding of TBF in soft ground. In this study, 1/5 scale model tests are performed in order to investigate the behavior of TBF with various shapes in a laboratory. Also, about 100 sites measurement data are evaluated to investigate the field behavior of TBF in various ground conditions. Based on the results of the model tests and field measurement data, it was possible to introduce more reasonable bearing capacity equations of TBF considering N-value of soils, the effect of underground water and failure mechanisms.
In this study, carbon conversion was measured using an electronic mass balance. In a lab scale furnace, each coal sample was pyrolyzed in a nitrogen environment and became coal char, which was then gasified with steam under isothermal conditions. The reactivity of coal char was investigated at various temperatures and steam concentrations. The VRM(volume reaction model), SCM(shrinking core model), and RPM(random pore model) were used to interpret experimental data. For each model the activation energy(Ea), pre-exponential factor (A), and reaction order(n) of the coal char-steam reaction were determined by applying the Arrhenius equation into the data obtained with thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA). According to this study, it was found that experimental data agreed better with the VRM and SCM for 1,000 and $1,100^{\circ}C$, and the RPM for 1,200 and $1,300^{\circ}C$. The reactivity of chars increased with the increase of gasification temperature. The structure parameter(${\psi}$) of the surface area for the RPM was obtained.
