Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tire manufacturing work environments extensively and to identify workers' exposure to hazardous substances in various work processes. Methods: Personal air sampling was conducted to measure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carbon disulfide, 1,3-butadiene, styrene, methyl isobutyl ketone, methylcyclohexane, formaldehyde, sulfur dioxide, and rubber fume in tire manufacturing plants using the National Institute for Occupational Safety Health Manual of Analytical Methods. Noise, carbon monoxide, and heat stress exposure were evaluated using direct reading instruments. Past concentrations of rubber fume were assessed using regression analysis of total particulate data from 2003 to 2007, after identifying the correlation between the concentration of total particulate and rubber fume. Results: Workers were exposed to rubber fume that exceeded 0.6 mg/$m^3$, the maximum exposure limit of the UK, in curing and production management processes. Forty-seven percent of workers were exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA. Workers in the production management process were exposed to $28.1^{\circ}C$ (wet bulb globe temperature value, WBGT value) even when the outdoor atmosphere was $2.7^{\circ}C$ (WBGT value). Exposures to other substances were below the limit of detection or under a tenth of the threshold limit values given by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. Conclusion: To better classify exposure groups and to improve work environments, examining closely at rubber fume components and temperature as risk indicators in tire manufacturing is recommended.

In this study, strain KNU17Pc1 was tested for its antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani AG-1(IA), which causes banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) of maize. KNU17Pc1 was tested further for its broad-spectrum antifungal activity and in vitro plant growth promoting (PGP) traits. In addition, the in vivo effects of KNU17Pc1 on reduction of BLSB severity and seedling growth promotion of two maize cultivars under greenhouse conditions were investigated. On the basis of multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), KNU17Pc1 was confirmed as P. chlororaphis subsp. aurantiaca. The study revealed that KNU17Pc1 had strong in vitro antifungal activity and was effective toward all in vitro PGP traits except phosphate solubilization. In this study, for the first time, a strain of P. chlororaphis against Colletotrichum dematium, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis, Fusarium subglutinans and Stemphylium lycopersici has been reported. Further biochemical studies showed that KNU17Pc1 was able to produce both types of phenazine derivatives, PCA and 2-OH-PCA. In addition, solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS) analysis identified 13 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the TSB culture of KNU17Pc1, 1-undecene being the most abundant volatile. Moreover, for the first time, Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan (D4), dimethyl disulfide, 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene and 1-undecene were detected in P. chlororaphis. Furthermore, this study reported for the first time the effectiveness of P. chlororaphis to control BLSB of maize. Hence, further studies are necessary to test the effectiveness of KNU17Pc1 under different environmental conditions so that it can be exploited further for biocontrol and plant growth promotion.

Hazardous air pollutants(HAPs) in the atmosphere are regulated as major air pollutants in Korea by the Air Pollution Control Act. In order to manage and control HAPs, accurate standards, which are traceable to the International System of Units(SI), are required. In this study, primary standard gas mixtures(PSMs) of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) which are specified as HAPs were developed at $1{\mu}mol/mol$ levels. The selected fourteen VOCs include Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m-Xylene, Styrene, o-Xylene, Chloroform, 1,1,2-Trichloroethane, Trichloroethylene, Tetrachloroethylene, 1,1-Dichloroethane, Carbon tetrachloride, 1,3-Butadiene, and Dichloromethane. The HAPs PSMs were gravimetrically prepared in aluminum cylinders and their consistency was verified within the relative expanded uncertainty of 0.71% (k=2). Potential adsorption loss onto the internal surface of cylinders was estimated by cylinder-to-cylinder division method. No adsorption loss was observed within the uncerainty of 0.53%. The long-term stability of the HAPs PSMs was evaluated comparing with freshly prepared HAPs PSMs. The HAPs PSMs were stable for one year within the uncertainty of 0.38%. The final uncertainty of the PSMs was determined by combining the preparation uncertainty, verification uncertainty, and stability uncertainty. Finally, traceable and stable HAPs PSMs at $1{\mu}mol/mol$ levels were developed with the uncertainty of less than 0.76% in high-pressure aluminum cylinders.
Rebound, storage and loss modulus, and tan ${\delta}$ were investigated on cured rubbers with various ratios of sulfur to accelerator and the volume fraction of carbon black in the cured rubbers. The rebound was increased as the sulfur to accelerator ratio and the volume fraction of carbon black decreased. The storage modulus decreased as the loading of carbon black and the strain increased regardless of the cure systems. The network structure formed by filler-filler interaction was destroyed above 6% strain regardless of the loading of carbon black, because constant storage modulus was shown at the higher strain than 3% for $40{\sim}50phr$ loading of carbon black and at the higher strain than 6% for 60 phr and above loading of carbon black. Little effect on loss modulus was found at the low loading of carbon black, but the peak of loss modulus was shown at 1% strain as the loading of carbon black was increased. Tan ${\delta}$ increased as the loading of carbon black and the strain were increased regardless of the cure system, and maximum tan ${\delta}$ was shown at 2% strain regardless of the loading of carbon black.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes among the nine kinds of reduction chemical substances in Korea over the period of 2008-2017. We will define basic data for improving the management methods for reducing chemical substances. Methods: A survey of hazardous pollutant emissions for 2008-2017 was conducted through the pollutant Release and Transfer Register homepage. Nine kinds of designated reduction chemical substances (Benzene, Vinyl chloride, Trichloro ethylene, 1,3-butadiene, Dichloro methane, Tetrachloro ethylene, N,N-dimethylformamide, Acrylo nitrile, and Chloroform) provided the study subjects. The emission of hazardous chemicals and health effects used the National Health Statistics and Integrated Chemicals Information System (ICIS) as a reference. Results: Hazardous pollutant emissions increased by 1.2 times over the past decade, and nine types of reduction chemical substances increased by 1.6 times. By region, the emissions of reduction chemical substances over the last 10 years were in the order of Chungbuk, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongbuk. Emissions of Dichloro methane was the highest in Chungbuk and Gyeongbuk. N,N-dimethylformamide was the highest in Gyeonggi. Carcinogen pollutant emissions showed a tendency to increase continuously. In addition, group 1 carcinogen emissions showed a tendency to decrease. Conclusion: In the last decade, the amount of hazardous chemical emissions has been continuously increasing. Hazardous chemical emissions require facility improvement for continuous emissions reduction. More research on reduction of emissions is needed.
In this work, the effect of different contents of $Fe_3O_4$ and temperature variation on the electrical conductivity ($\sigma$) in the polar acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/$Fe_3O_4$ (magnetite) mixture system was investigated. It was found that the percolation threshold concept holds true for the conductive particle-filled composites where $\sigma$ indicates a nearly sharp increase when the concentration of magnetite in the mixture exceeds 22%. The temperature dependence of $\sigma$ was thermally activated below and at the percolation threshold ($P_c$). Magnetite acted as reinforcing and conductive filler for NBR. At room temperature and higher voltages, the electrical current was proportional to the square of voltage ($I{\propto}V^2$) for the composites which contain 30 phr of magnetite. Moreover, it was shown that the composites with magnetite of 50 phr showed the highest tensile strength and elongation at break, which was due to the formation of optimal physical interlock and crosslinking. The results of 100%, 200%, and 300% Young moduli said that the moduli are largely correlated with reinforcement effect of magnetite and viscosity of the blends from torque curve.
In flows with deformation rates larger than the inverse Rouse time of the polymer chain, chains are stretched and their confining tubes become increasingly anisotropic. The pressures exerted by a polymer chain on the walls of an anisotropic confinement are anisotropic and limit chain stretch. In the Molecular Stress Function (MSF) model, chain stretch is balanced by an interchain pressure term, which is inverse proportional to the $3^{rd}$ power of the tube diameter and is characterized by a tube diameter relaxation time. We show that the tube diameter relaxation time is equal to 3 times the Rouse time in the limit of small chain stretch. At larger deformations, we argue that chain stretch is balanced by two restoring tensions with weights of 1/3 in the longitudinal direction of the tube (due to a linear spring force) and 2/3 in the lateral direction (due to the nonlinear interchain pressure), both of which are characterized by the Rouse time. This approach is shown to be in quantitative agreement with transient and steady-state elongational viscosity data of two monodisperse polystyrene melts without using any nonlinear parameter, i.e. solely based on the linear-viscoelastic characterization of the melts. The same approach is extended to model experimental data of four styrene-butadiene random copolymer melts in shear flow. Thus for monodisperse linear polymer melts, for the first time a constitutive equation is presented which allows quantitative modeling of nonlinear extension and shear rheology on the basis of linear-viscoelastic data alone.
In this study, thermoplastic composites were manufactured using ABS(acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), PC(polycarbonate), and POE(polyolefin elastomer), which are thermoplastic plastics. Twin screw extruder and injection molding were used to manufacture thermoplastic composites. When the ABS/PC/POE thermoplastic composite material was manufactured, the POE mass fraction was set to 1 to 5 wt.%, and the thermal and mechanical properties according to the POE mass fraction were analyzed. Based on the physical properties of ABS/PC/POE, a 3D model in the form of an e-bike frame was created. After setting the boundary conditions, when an external load is applied, geometry simulation was performed to predict product performance. The ABS/PC/POE thermoplastic composite material exhibited the best physical properties when the mass fraction of POE was 3 wt.%. In the simulation results for the physical properties of the 3D model in the form of an e-bike frame, the best physical properties were shown when the mass fraction of POE was 2 ~ 3 wt.%. As a result, the manufacturing conditions for ABS/PC/POE thermoplastic composite materials were set, and research was conducted to reduce product development costs and development time.
5-methylthioninhydrin (5-MTN) is an amino acid sensitive reagent used for the development of latent fingermarks deposited on porous surfaces such as paper and wood. The present study demonstrates that the 5-MTN can be used as a latent footwear impression enhancement reagent, by reacting with trace multivalent metal ions, which are the main components of the latent footwear impression. 5-MTN and L-alanine complex (MTN-ALA) used for the latent footwear impression development was prepared, by mixing $4.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ 5-MTN (in methanol) and $4.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ L-alanine (in methanol) in 1:1 ratio, and keeping undisturbed at room temperature for 24 h. The latent footwear impressions were deposited on white and black non-porous surfaces (glass plate, polyethylene panel, polypropylene panel, acryl panel, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) panel, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) panel, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) panel, tile), and a semi-porous surfaces (painted wood). The latent footwear impressions on these surfaces were treated with MTN-ALA complex by spraying. The fluorescence of footwear impressions (occurred due to the reaction between MTN-ALA and metal complexes) was observed under a 505 nm forensic light source and an orange barrier filter. The enhancement of latent footwear impression was achieved from black surfaces without any blurring. However, the fluorescence (enhancement) of footwear impression was not observed on the white PVC, PMMA, and ABS surfaces, because the incident light interfered and reflected on the surface. The sensitivity of MTN-ALA was superior to 2,2'-dipyridil, which is a representative non-fluorescing footwear impression enhancement reagent, and similar to 8-hydroxyquinoline, which is a representative fluorescing footwear impression enhancement reagent.

Objectives: The main purpose of this study is to produce background data which can be compared with data on vulnerable areas such as industrial complexes in Ulsan, SihwaBanwol, Gwangyang, Yeosu, Pohang, Cheongju and Daesan in Korea. Methods: This study was performed on 1,007 local residents in Gangneung using personal questionnaires and medical check-up. Environmental pollutants including heavy metals in blood and urine were analyzed and the results are as follows. Results: According to the results of medical check-up, 705 subjects were "Normal (A and B)", 232 subjects were "Disease doubtful (R1)" and 70 subjects were "High blood pressure or Diabetes doubtful (R2)". Regarding geometric mean concentration, blood lead was 1.57 ${\mu}g/dL$, urine cadmium was 0.82 ${\mu}g/g-cr$, urine mercury was 0.98 ${\mu}g/g-cr$ and urine arsenic was 15.78 ${\mu}g/g-cr$. In the analysis of 11 kinds of VOCs in blood, vinyl chloride, 1,3-butadiene and dichloroethylene were not detected, while the detection rate of other chemicals was above 70% except chloroform(49.7%) and trichloroethylene(19.0%). In analysis of 16 kinds of PAHs in blood, 10 kinds showed more than 80% in detection rate. Also, detection rate of 4 kinds of PCBs in blood ranged 52 to 78%. Conclusions: Compared with industrial compelxes, the concentration of blood lead was lower, while urine cadmium and mercury levels were similar. Also, urine arsenic ranged at a significant level. Further study is required to find the cause of regional differences in concentrations of environmental pollutants.
