In development of network-enabled consumer electronics, much of the time and effort is spent analyzing and solving network performance problems. In this paper, we define an instance of such problems discovered while developing a commercial home network gateway. We then analyze its cause and propose a solution mechanism. Our home network gateway uses art asymmetric link (ADSL) and suffers from an undesirable phenomenon where downlink traffic interferes with upload speed. We call this phenomenon the network performance interference problem. While this problem can easily be confused with receive livelock caused by packet contention at the input queue, we and that this is not the case. By performing extensive experiments and analysis, we reveal that our problem is caused by packet contention at the output queue and certain intrinsic characteristics of TCP. We devise an ACK-separation queuing mechanism for this problem and implement it in the home network gateway Our experiments show that it effectively solves the problem.

With the progress of portable appliances such as cell phone and handhold PC, the popularization of Personal Area Network (PAN) and the diversification of services that are based on Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) . To use home services at any time regardless of their Position, it needs a virtual home network that a home network and outside networks are finally integrated. Although interoperability among home appliances reached their service stage, research for services and middleware for new small scale network such as PAN is at an early stage. Traditional home network service/connection methods, terminal control schemes, and middlewares must be extended to accommodate PMG-based PAM. In this paper, we propose an integrated virtual home network Platform that guarantees seamless connections between home network and PAM. We also analyze indispensable functions and presents functions that should be added existent home gateway or home sewer by function.

This paper proposes two systems. One is a Home Gateway(HG) which efficiently connects and controls digital appliances in the home network environments. The other is a Management Server(MS) that overcomes the physical limitation of the HG. The HG supports networking modules(TCP/IP for Ethernet, ADSL), home networking functions(HomePNA, IEEE1394 PLC) and telecommunication system(PSTN/SLT, VoIP, Video Communication). The HG is expected to be a core device for the integrated digital home environments. The MS is a dedicated server which manages and controls individual HG, home appliances and HA devices implemented at an area.

초고속 통신 가입자 확대와 인터넷 정보 기기의 보급으로 PC간의 네트워킹이 A/V 기기를 비롯한 다양한 디지털 정보가전을 중심으로 하는 홈 네트워크의 발전으로 이어질 것이 예상 된다. 이에 따라 흠 네트워크에 관련된 유무선 기술, 미들웨어, 게이트웨이 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 이 가운데 기기 동작 특성, 응용 분야에 따라 각기 다른 네트워크를 형성하도록 하는 미들웨어 간의 연동의 중요성이 부각된다. 본 논문에서는 UPnP-HAVi 네트워크를 연동하여 스트리밍 서비스를 가능하게 하는 게이트웨이를 제안한다.

The objective of this paper lies in the design and implementation of a home gateway supporting live video streaming which flows from the Non-SIP video camera in home to the mobile SIP device outside. We developed the home gateway on the OSGi framework and employed the RTC technology which embeds an SIP stack so that the multimedia session can be established from the home device to the mobile user outside. And also we developed an RTC bundle to manage the session and a virtual capture device driver to read the video stream from the Non-SIP video camera in the home network, and installed them on the home gateway. Finally, we constructed the experimental environment that has the windows messenger as the SIP mobile device and an AXIS 2100 UPnP video camera as a video source, and then tested if the session establishment to the mobile user from the camera and live video streaming work well between them.

홈 네트워킹 기술을 이용하면 가정내의 각각의 기기를 연결하고, 인터넷에 동시에 접속할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 홈 네트워킹 기술로 연결된 가정 기기들은 상호운용이 가능하며 인터넷을 통해 외부에서도 가정내의 기기를 제어할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 외부로부터의 제어 가능성으로 인하여 홈 네트워크에 대한 접근 및 제어에 대한 인증의 필요성이 대두되었을 뿐만 아니라 전자상거래의 증가 및 VPN을 이용한 자택근무의 증가로 인하여 홈 네트워크의 보안도 중요한 관리요소에 포함되었다. 본 논문에서는 흠 네트워크 보안 및 관리를 위한 홈 네트워크 관제 센터의 구조 및 설계에 대하여 기술한다. 기존의 흠 게이트웨이에 집중되었던 흠 네트워크 관리기능과 방화벽이나 사용자 인증 등의 보안 기능을 홈 네트워크 관제 센터로 이동함으로써 보안관리의 편리성 제공 및 홈 게이트웨이의 부하를 줄일 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 좀 더 완벽한 홈 네트워크 보안을 제공할 수 있다.

In this paper, a home network gateway has been developed, which supports the ZigBee and power line communication methods at the same time. A conversion protocol for smooth information exchange between ZigBee module and power line communication module have been implemented on the gateway, and the performance and reliability of the gateway have been evaluated as good through field tests. The gateway can support various home networks.

Standardization of the home-networking technologies and the home network trial has been tried to activate the home network services and develop the new business models. Home network mobile service using a cellular phone provides the control and monitoring the states of the information appliances and HA(home automation) devices through a home network gateway interworking with a home server. For this purpose, the home network mobile application in a cellular phone can automatically change the configuration of the information appliances and HA devices interworking with a home server. In this paper, we propose the home appliance auto-configuration scheme using XML for home network mobile services. The proposed scheme is implemented on WIPI of the domestic mobile platform standardization.

In this paper, we designed and implemented home gateway system for remote control of home appliances and devices using cellular phone. The system communicate home devices through Zigbee protocol and home server based on Linux operating system communicate cellular phone through external networks. We expect that the system apply various fields as home automations, home network, smart offices, and ubiquious environments.

홈 네트워킹에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 이를 실현하기 위해 흠 네트워크에 연결되는 기기들간에 상호 운영성을 보장하는 미들웨어 기술에 관련된 솔루션이 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이에 따른 미들웨어 기술에 관련된 솔루션 중 OSGi와 Jini간의 연계 가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 먼저 OSGi의 개념과 OSGi의 Bundle 개념을 살펴보고 Jini의 개념과 OSGi의 Bundle로써 Jini service를 구현하기 위한 방법에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.
