  • Purpose: The most common symptoms of eyes on VDT syndrome and symptoms-related the factors were investigated. Methods: Self-questionnaire for VDT syndrome was done with 250 teachers from 1st to 15th October, 2010, and the data from 231 teachers (68 male, 163 female) was statistically analyzed to find the factors related to ocular symptoms. Results: The most common ocular symptom on VDT syndrome was 'feeling of eyes fatigue', and the factors which have correlation significantly to ocular symptoms were regular exercise, ages, VDT work time, and regular resting. Conclusions: Taking a rest and regular exercise contribute to relieve the ocular symptoms related to VDT syndrome.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose an effective field test for assessing the cardiovascular endurance of soccer players by comparing the shuttle run test and the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test (Yo-Yo test), which are representative of the aerobic exercise performance test, with the VO2max and other sprint tests. The shuttle run test requires the subject to run continuously without a break interval, while the Yo-Yo test has a break interval, so that they run with the recovery period. Therefore, the Yo-Yo test can be used as an effective field test for evaluating the cardiopulmonary function considering the characteristics of the soccer players of intermittent training.

  • German working hour law of 1994(Arbeitszeitgesetz) provides maximum working hour as 8 hours a day and 48 hours per week. The law provides that minimum 11 hours rest-time is required between the end of a day's work and the beginning of the next day's work. Namely, the hour that the workers are put under commanding of the user is restricted within 13 hours per day. In the meantime, article 5, 7, 14, and 15 of the law have some letting the exceptional provisions regarding the working hour and rest-time of flight crew, and 2nd administrative order for the aviation transportation business owner, which is established based on such exceptional provisions(2.DV LuftBO), provides the working hour and rest-time of flight crew quite in detail. The administrative order is detailed quite regarding block time, flight working hour, and rest-time. So, it does not need to interpret additionally. Airlines in Korea should observe the both Labor Standard Act applying to general workers and Aviation Act focused on flight crew, so it is difficult that airlines manages working hour and rest-time of the flight crew efficiently. Therefore, it is desirable that our country refers to and considers adopting this legislation method of Germany which regulates working hour and rest-time of flight crew in detail in the 2.DV LuftBO.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate(DHEAS) as a stress hormone. Experiment 1) We evaluated the variation of DHEAS levels of long-term(30minutes a day fur 3 weeks) 37$^{\circ}C$ thermal stressed mice compared with that of cortisol. Serum concentrations of cortisol and DHEAS were measured by radioimmunoassay(RIA). Cortisol levels were not significantly altered both LW(Long-term stressed group, mice were killed without rest) and LR(Long-term stressed group, mice were killed after 4 days' rest) compared with control group, but DHEAS levels were decreased in LW compared with control group(p<0.05), and it kept a sustained difference after 4 days' rest(LR)(p<0.05). Experiment 2) We evaluated the changes of DHEAS levels on term of stress and rest. As stress term was longer, serum DHEAS levels were decreased and also kept a sustained difference after 10 days' rest compared with control group(p<0.05). These results suggest that cortisol has difficulty in taking an accurate measurement after extinction of stimuli, whereas DHEAS is more accurate and stable. Thus, this study implies that DHEAS is a stress-related hormone.

  • A laboratory investigation was performed to estimate the moduli values of asphalt concrete mixture due to various sinusoidal loadings in compression and tension. Total five modes of loading were used under five testing temperatures of 32, 50, 68, 86, and $104^{\circ}F$ (0, 10, 20, 30, and $40^{\circ}C$); repeated compressive haversine loading with rest period, repeated tensile haversine loading with rest period, cyclic compressive loading, cyclic tensile loading, and alternate tensile-compressive loadings. The test results showed that, due to the repeated haversine loading with rest period, asphalt concrete demonstrated similar moduli in tension and compression at low temperatures,(0 and $10^{\circ}C$) while those moduli were different at high temperatures (20, 30, and $40^{\circ}C$). At high temperatures the compressive moduli were always higher than the tensile moduli. The uniaxial tensile moduli were higher than indirect tensile moduli at low temperatures. However, those moduli were similar at high temperatures. In uniaxial cyclic tension, compression, and alternate tension-compression tests, compressive moduli were higher than tensile and alternate tensile-compressive moduli throughout the temperatures. Generally, the moduli from the repeated haversine loading with rest period were always lower than those from the cyclic sinusoidal loading. The difference in moduli from the repeated haversine loading with rest period and cyclic sinusoidal loading becomes more significant as the temperature decreases.

  • This study aimed to compare the effects of microcurrent stimulation and rest on the fatigue index by applying both to subjects who had accumulated fatigue after performing short-duration physical activity. The experiment was performed at S University from December 2012 to February 2013, on 22 healthy men in their 20s, who were right-handed, and without peripheral or musculoskeletal diseases. All subjects lifted a 10-kg box lift and lower 100 times in 15 minutes. Immediately after that, muscle fatigue index (Median Frequency: MF) and blood fatigue index (Creatine Kinase Lactate: CK, Lactate Dehydrogenase: LDH) were measured by using surface electromyography. The subjects were divided into two groups, and microcurrent stimulation and rest were mediated to the experimental and control groups, respectively, for 20 minutes. After intervention, muscle fatigue index and blood fatigue index were measured and the changes in the accumulated fatigue index were compared. Both groups manifested significantly decreased cumulative fatigue after applying the mediation compared to the pre-intervention level (p < .05), the only exception being the fatigue index of the left erector spinae in the rest group. Compared to the rest group, the microcurrent stimulation group showed a significant decrease in muscle fatigue index (p < .05) but no significant differences were found in the blood fatigue index. Given the results of this study, microcurrent stimulation is considered to be helpful in muscle fatigue recovery for workers who have to perform repetitive movements lifting weights, and additional studies on the correlations of the fatigue recovery with respect to the long-term follow-up of fatigue index and mediation time are necessary.

  • In this study, we wanted to know the change in the craniovertebral angle before and after stretching and muscle tone according to rest time immediately after stretching. 57 students in their 20s and 30s were targeted, and the craniovertebral angle was compared before and after stretching. Static manual stretching was applied for stretching, and after 30 seconds, it was repeated three times with a break time of 10 seconds, and before stretching, immediately after, two minutes after, and five minutes after stretching were measured using muscle tone measuring equipment. As a result, there was no significant difference in craniovertebral angle before and after stretching, and the change in muscle tone according to the rest time after stretching was more significant after 5 minutes than before stretching. It is more effective to take five minutes to rest after stretching, reduce muscle tone than working immediately after stretching.
