  • Classwort (Salicornia herbacea L.), a halophyte, is a potential functional food resource in Korea. This study was conducted to determine the antioxidant activity of glasswort, as a functional food material, on the lipid oxidation of pork. To compare antioxidant effect of different parts of glasswort, samples such as dried ground leaves, stems, and roots of glasswort were prepared. The antioxidant activity was determined by the TBARS(Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances) method. Freeze-dried leaves of glasswort at 0 day of storage had the lowest TBARS values, suggesting the highest antioxidant effect. But the antioxidative effect of freeze-dried leaves of glasswort was less than that of BHT. At 7 days after storage, however, the values were not different from oven-dried leaves. The oven-dried leaves at 14 days after storing should highest antioxidative activity. In conclusion, antioxidative effect of glasswort was apparently exhibited through measurement of TBARS. Antioxidative effect from ground leaf sample of glasswort harvested in coastal region was the highest, followed by root and stem samples. Glasswort had twice as high antioxidative effect as sea salt and bamboo salt.

  • Antidiarrheal, anticostive and antimutagenic effects of Bifidobacterium breve K-110, K-111 and B. infantis K-525 isolated from Korean were investigated in experimental animals. These Bifidobacteria were not significantly affected on the transport of barium sulfate in the small intestine. However, these Bifidobacteria significantly stimulated the transport of barium sulfate in the large intestine. Particularly, when Bifidobacterium breve K-110 (500 mg/kg) was orally administered, the transport of barium sulfate in the large intestine was increased 45%, compared to the control group. On the castor oil-induced diarrheal mice, Bifidobacterium breve K-111 had the antidiarrheal activity but the other Bifidobacteria did not had it. When the antimutagenicity of these Bifidobacteria and their peptidoglycans were examined using Salmonella typhimurium TA98/TA100 in an in vitro assay system, these Bifidobacteria and peptidoglycans showed inhibitory effect of $20{\sim}80%$. These results indicate that Bifidobacterium spp. had antidiarrheal, anticostive and antimutagenic activities as well as the inhibitory activity of harmful enzymes of intestinal bacteria in the intestine.

  • The control of enzymic browning in potato slices by the use of citrate and phosphate buffer at different pH values and concentration was investigated. Minimally processed potatoes were stored at $5^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ followed by dipping in distilled water, citrate buffer (pH $3.0{\sim}5.0$) and phosphate buffer (pH $5.0{\sim}7.0$). The color characteristic was measured after storage at $5^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Treatment effectiveness was greatly improved by reducing pH and temperature. The citrate buffer was more effective than phosphate buffer in the browning inhibitory capacity. The citrate buffer (pH 3.0) showed the most anti-browning effect in this condition and more effective inhibition of browning by increasing concentration of treatment solution. The phosphate buffer (pH 5.0) treatment showed more effectiveness than concentration of 0.5 M of citrate buffer treatment.

  • The government is working out the development of a venture enterprise through a venture certification system. The broad effects of its policies are anticipated by the government and revealed in the 'The Survey on Actual Condition of Venture Enterprises 2010'. These benefits include the revitalization of start-up, promotion of technological innovation, progress in marketing ability, improvement in corporate image, financing and investment, and benefit from tax reduction & exemption. However, with the estimation of production function and sales function, which both uses capital and labor as a basic elements, it was found that only 'financing and ease of investment' produces a statistically significant effect on production and sales. An addition, this study looks into whether venture-supporting system are helpful to the eradication of technical inefficiency. The policies brought about positive changes in reduction of technical inefficiencies except with regard to the ease of start-up where it was found that an increase in inefficiencies was the result.

  • To obtain the system requirement specification in the beginning of the precision guidance and control system development, the effectiveness and reliability analysis for the system are necessary. The main purpose of this research is to obtain the system requirement specification by carrying out the effectiveness analysis using the modeling and simulation(M&S) scheme. M&S model is constructed using 6-DOF dynamic model, environment model, guidanc -navigation & control model. Assume that the navigation sensor is consist of inertial navigation sensor(INS) and doppler velocity log(DVL), and the speed and direction of current is environment parameter. The effectiveness analysis is carried out using circular error probability(CEP) and variance analyze scheme. Also, the effectiveness analysis is utilized for cost-performance analysis considering the cost of commercial INS and DVL sensor. This paper shows the high-level INS and the low-level DVL configure a high price-performance integrated navigation system.

  • Effectiveness analysis of weapon system has been accomplished using engagement-level model alone. However, most previous works are prone to errors due to lack of behavioral information about the weapon systems. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper proposes an interoperation approach between the engagement- and engineering-level models. The proposed approach enables the engagement-level model to be supported by the engineering-level model representing the detailed behavior of weapon systems. Our methodology consider a limited combat situation including operational environments, dynamics and operational errors of weapons, and engagement orders. The paper describes a formalization of the system effectiveness analysis and defines an interface for interoperation between engagement- and engineering-level models. Then, we perform an anti-torpedo combat simulation as a case study.

  • M. aeruginosa isolated from Lake Paldang was cultured in CB medium, and then each wet plants put into the cultured medium at a rate of 0.5 g and 2.5 g wet wt/l. There was slight inhibition by the input of cattail and iris of each 0.5 g wet wt/l cultured medium, but showed no reduction in algal growth in other flasks. Among the applied plants, ginkgo, pine needles, big cone pine, waterreed and water chestnut had an effect on inhibition of algal growth at the input of 2.5 g wet wt/l. Plants which were dried for 3 days at $50^{\circ}C$ introduced into the testing flask for 10days cultured at dose rates of 2.5 g/l. When chlorophyll a concentration was remarkably high as $802.6\;{\mu}g/l$ after five days, there was noticeably less chlorophyll compared with control at a rate of 98% by big cone pine, 96% by ginkgo, 95% by pine needles and 86% by rice straw, respectively. To examine the effect of plant extracts on algal growth, big cone pine and water chestnut were put to the amount of 1.25 g liquid extracts/l. Chlorophyll a concentration and cell density decreased to the extent of average 43% as compared with the beginning of experiment, but when concentration of chlorophyll a increased a most high, the inhibition of algal growth by liquid extracts did not affect at all. When a quantity of plant equivalent to 2.5 g liquid extracts/l inhibited the growth of algae by 95% after nine days.

  • We analyze the efficiency of congestion pricings and transit subsidies in the spatial micro-economic model based on a general equilibrium environment. In this setting, we decompose the total welfare change into component factors and identify the reason of the change in the efficiency caused by policy instruments; these component factors are divided into indirect factors and direct factors including of origin-destination and mode choices. We set up the model as adding mode choice to the standard format in the fashion of Anas and Kim (1996) and extend the methodology proposed by Yu and Rhee (2011) and Rhee (2012) for deriving theoretical and analytical solution. Most of welfare gain comes from the modal shift from car to bus. The relative efficiency of subsidies in relation to the first-best pricing is lower than it of congestion pricings although the change in bus share by subsidies is similar to it by congestion pricing. Subsidies give rise to more modal shift from a car to a bus for long-distance commuting than it caused by congestion pricings. As the increase of bus share for long-distance commuting leads to the increase of cross-commuters passing through CBD, the welfare gain by subsidies is lower than it by congestion pricings.
