The usefulness of walls in the structural planning of multistory buildings has long been recognized. When walls are situated in advantageous positions in a buildings, they can be very efficient in resisting lateral load. Specially coupled shear wall system is the primary lateral load resisting system of buildings. It is customary to refer to such walls as being 'coupled' by coupling beams. The coupling beams must exhibit excellent strength, stiffness ductility and energy dissipation capacity. To achieve these demands for steel coupling beam, steel coupling beam with Face Bearing Plate(FBP) embedded in the reinforced concrete walls is proposed. A comprehensive experimental test involving 2 steel coupling beam with and without FBP has been performed. Through experimental study, the evaluation of the advantage of that was establish and proposed the failure mode.
Coupling loss variation as the shape of fiber ends and the fiber arrangement in a fiber Fabry-Perot cavity, formed with two optical fibers with dielectric mirror coatings on their ends, is analyzed. For the intended features it is assumed that one of two fibers is processed to have a concave mirror whose curvature is the same as that of the wavefront of the Gaussian beam from the first fiber. In this assumption, it was turned out that the coupling loss at the cavity length of 15 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is less than 0.5% even with tilt angle of 0.2$^{\circ}$, curvature error of 70 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, cavity length error of 8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and lateral alignment error of 0.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Thus, low loss and high-finesse fiber Fabry-Perot filters whose cavity length is greater than several ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ can be obtained easily if the receiving fiber end is properly formed.

GFRP rebar with ribs resemble those of deformed steel rebar was developed in 2005. It was reported that ribs of the GFRP rebar were sheared off due to the lower shear strength of polymer. In this study, the basic development length of the GFRP rebar was investigated through pull-out tests, models specified in ACI440.1R-03 and -06, and empirical model derived by Cosenza et al. (2002). As a results of pull-out tests, the critical embeddment length, which is defined as the length when failure mode is changed from pull-out to bar fracture, was 20 times of bar diameter for GFRP rebar and was 15 times for steel rebar. It is believed that the basic development of the GFRP rebar is 21 times of bar diameter, which is determined from the application of average bond strength into the model equation specified in ACI440.1R-03. Compared to the model equation in ACI440.1R-06, that in ACI440.1R-03 is recommendable for design purpose. The Cosenza et al.'s model underestimates the basic development length of the GFRP rebar.
The kerfs between arrayed piezoelectric elements in a medical ultrasonic transducer or a piezoelectric composite transducer are generally filled by polymeric materials. The boundary condition of the elements for lateral mode vibration is changed according to the kerf-filling materials, so that the resonance frequency for longitudinal mode of the transducer is also varied. In this study, to investigate the resonance frequency variation for an arrayed transducer experimentally, the piezoelectric vibration elements of $14mm{\times}0.22mm{\times}0.44mm$ were fabricated and those were linearly arrayed. And, the resonance frequencies were measured for three cases of kerf-filling condition, non-filling and two different kinds of epoxy filling. Conclusively, it is confirmed that the resonant frequency variation shows the similar tendency with the theoretical one for the longitudinal mode.

In the seismic design the pile foundation system of the buildings generally have been modeled to have a fixed end for its convenience and conservativeness. But it is necessary to consider the soil-structure interaction for more reliable design. In this study, the framed tube building and brace tube building with pile foundation system under earthquake were analyzed considering soil-structural interaction by 3 pile foundation modeling methods; fixed-end model, 6 springs model and p-y springs model. And 2 soil conditions were used in analysis. For each cases, displacements, drifts, maximum stress, periods and 1st mode mass participation ratios were compared.

In this study, the time varying boundary control using the right boundary transverse motion is suggested to stabilize the transverse vibration of an axially moving string on the basis of the energy flux between the moving string and the boundaries. The effectiveness of the active velocity boundary control is showed through the FDM simulation results. Sliding mode control is adopted in order to achieve velocity tracking control of the time varying right boundary to dissipate vibration energy of the string effectively. Optical sensor system for measuring the transverse vibration of an axially moving string is developed, and the angle of the incident wave to the right boundary, which is the input of the velocity boundary controller, is obtained. Experimental research is carried out to examine the validity and the performance of the transverse vibration control using the suggested velocity right boundary control scheme.
Research on vibration of a vehicle with a transversely mounted 4-cylinder engine was performed using a vector synthesis method, Data of the engine vibration for the vector synthesis method was obtained experimentally and the data was ODS-fitted to calculate vibration level on any engine location assuming that the engine is rigid body in the frequency range of interest. In order to derive the excitation force on the vehicle body, the displacements were converted from the acceleration of engine. The transfer functions from engine mounts to toe pan on the floor were obtained experimentally. The vibration level on the toe pan was predicted by multiplying the excitation force by the transfer function. The predicted vibration level was compared with experimental data and the result was reasonable. Using the developed method, analysis was made for the effect of body fixture conditions of the vehicle when testing the engine vibration and for the effect of the transfer functions when the engine is installed or when the engine is removed. Finally the degree of contribution for 12 transfer paths was calculated.

Free vibration characteristics of a cantilevered laminated composite beam with multiple non-propagating transverse open cracks are investigated. In the present analysis a special ply-angle distribution referred to as asymmetric stiffness configuration inducing the elastic coupling between chord-wise bending and extension is considered. The multiple open cracks are modelled as equivalent rotational springs whose spring constants are calculated based on the fracture mechanics of composite material structures. Governing equations of a composite beam with open cracks are derived via Hamilton's Principle and Timoshenko beam theory encompassing transverse shear and rotary inertia effect is adopted. The effects of various parameters such as the ply angle, fiber volume fraction, crack numbers, crack positions and crack depthes on the free vibration characteristics of the beam with multiple cracks are highlighted. The numerical results show that the existence of the multiple cracks in an anisotropic composite beam affects the free vibration characteristics in a more complex fashion compared with the beam with a single crack.

this study, forced vibration analysis was performed on the composite main wing structure of a small scale WIG craft which is equipped two-stroke pusher type reciprocating engine. The structural vibration analysis based on the finite element method was performed using a commercial FEM code, MSC/NASTRAN. Excitations for the frequency response analysis were assumed as the H-mode(horizontal mode), the V-mode(vertical mode) and the X-mode(twisted mode) which are typical main vibration modes of engine. And excitations for the transient response analysis were assumed as the L-mode(longitudinal mode) with the oscillating propeller thrust which occurs.
We demonstrate a compact optical coherence tomography(OCT) system based on the optical fiber delay line controlled by a cylindrical piezo-electric transducer(PZT). An 18-m length of single mode fiber is wrapped under constant tension around a PZT. Approximately 134 windings are used. Wraps of the long length of fiber allow the small expansion of the PZT to be magnified to an optical path length delay of 0.78 m. The OCT system shows characteristics for 2-dimensional imaging, exhibiting 96.9dB of signal-to-noise ratio(SNR), $18.6{\pm}0.5\;{\mu}m$ of axial resolution, and $5\;{\mu}m$ of lateral resolution with samples.
