Implementation of Plasmonic Polarization Beam Splitter based on an Asymmetric Grating Profile (비대칭 격자구조에 기초한 플라즈마 편광 빔 분리기의 구현)

  • The polarization-selective beam splitter grating can be widely used in numerous optical information processing systems. In this paper, to design a high-efficiency plasma polarization beam splitter (PBS), the structure composed of an Ag metal layer in Littrow mounting is implemented. To achieve high diffraction efficiency in the transmitted 0th-order TE polarization and the reflected 0th-order TM polarization, the grating depth and grating ratio of presented PBS is optimized by using rigorous Modal Transmission-Line Theory. From the optimized results, PBS has advantages of wide band properties for incident wavelength and angle, and the efficiency is higher than 95% for both TE and TM polarization. Therefore, this highly efficient PBS wideband grating with high extinction ratio can be used as an excellent optical diffraction device.

  • Amorphous chalcogenide thin films, especially a-(Se, S) based films, exhibit a number of photoinduced phenomena not observed in other types of amorphous thin films. The polarization holographic grating has been formed in amorphous As-Ge-Se-S thin films using two linearly polarized He-Ne laser light. In addition, dffraction efficiency has been measured by the same laser of a relative lower intensity at the same time.

Numerical Simulation of Input Beam Effects on Diffractive Optical Elements (입력 빔 형태에 따른 회절광학소자에서의 빔 효율 시뮬레이션)

  • 본 논문에서는 Iterative Fourier Transform Algorithm $Method(IFTA)^{(1)}$를 사용하여 Diffractive Optical Element(DOE)를 통과한 빛의 Shape이 Input Beam의 각 조건에 따라 얼마나 원하는 형태에 가까워지는지를 Input 대비 Output의 Efficiency와 Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR) Simulation 을 통해 알아보았다. Input beam의 종류는 Gaussian, Supergaussian, Plane, Spherical, Quadratic wave 으로 하고 각각의 경우에 대해 Beam Diameter, Polarization, Wavelength를 변화시키며 DOE에서의 회절 현상을 simulation하였다. 이때 Polarization은 Linear, Circular, Elliptical 형태로 변화시켰고 Wavelength는 332.8nm에서 832.8nm까지의 범위에 대해 연구하였다. 또한 relative edge가 있을 때와 없을 때를 비교하여 가장 효율이 높은 Input Beam의 형태와 그 parameter에 대해 연구하였다.

  • The dependence of diffraction efficiency as a funct~on of film thickness and incident angle has been investigated in amorphous chalcogenide thin films, which act as a polarization holographic materials. Especially a-(Se, S) based films exhibit a number of photoinduced phenomena not observed in other types of amorphous thin films. Holographic gratings in amorphous As-Ge-Se-S thin films have been formed using the mutual perpendicular polarized(linearly) He-Ne laser light. We could obtain the optimum condition to get high diffraction efficiency.

  • We fabricated acrylamie photopolymer holographic recording materials by photopolymerization of acrylamide, and described hologram formation process. Light absorption and phtobleaching process by MB(methylene blue) dye and radical polymerization process due to TEA(triethanolamind) are explained in detail. We adopted the Beer-lambert law in order to explain the photobleaching kinetics. Dependencies of diffraction efficiency of the hologram on monomer amout and the exposure are investigated. The scattering effect caused by grain of polymer crystal, and fixing method are also illustrated.

A study on aberration and FOV improvement of a holographic HMD element (홀로그래픽 HMD 소자의 수차 및 시야각 향상에 관한 연구)

  • A holographic HMD element having low aberrations and high diffraction efficiency over wide FOV has been fabricated. In order to design the HOE having low aberrations a recursive technique was used. To obtain the HOE having low aberrations as well as high diffraction efficiency over a wide FOV, we used an intermediate hologram and the grating function of the aberration corrected hologram was transferred to the final hologram through it. For the fabricated final HMD element, we got the results of spot size improved about 10 times and high diffraction efficiency over FOV of $\pm$10$^{\circ}$.

Design of phase-only diffractive pattern elements using a two-stage iterative Fourier transform algorithm (2단계 iterative Fourier transform 알고리즘을 이용한 위상형 회절무늬소자 설계)

  • A two-stage iterative Fourier transform algorithm, based on hybrid input-output algorithm and new Pnoise algorithm, is used to design continuous and quantized phase-only diffractive pattern elements which produce arbitrary given intensity patterns via Fraunhofer diffraction. Numerical results for two $128\times128$ binary patterns and two grayscale patterns are compared with those of other algorithms. It is found that the algorithm yields better signal-to-noise ratio and even better uniformity with slightly lower diffraction efficiency than other algorithms. We investigated the dependence of performance on parameters used in the algorithm, size of noise region, and the number of phase levels for quantized elements. In the case of quantized phase elements, the size of noise region plays a greater role in determining the performance of the algorithm than given intensity pattern itself. tself.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristics of a Bragg grating recorded in photopolymer. We record hologram gratings using a 532 nm Nd : YAG laser in DuPont HRF 150-38 photopolymer films and analyze the diffraction efficiency versus thermal exposure conditions. For the case of recording after heating, the diffraction efficiency of the hologram is more than $70\%$ at $100^{\circ}C$ but is decreased exponentially at temperatures over $100^{\circ}C$. It is observed in the recording before heating that the diffraction efficiency of the hologram fixed by a UV light is increased to approximately $10\%$ at $100^{\circ}C$, but the holograms are erased at temperatures over $120^{\circ}C$.

Digital Hologram Encryption Algorithm using Fresnel Diffraction (프레넬 회절을 이용한 디지털 홀로그램 암호화 알고리즘)

  • This paper is to propose an encryption method for only an allowed user to see the content for a digital hologram, that is a high value-added content. This paper uses a characteristic of Fresnel transform that the object region is concentrated to a relatively small part of the diffraction plane. By encrypting the concentrated part only the region to be encrypted and in turn the amount of data to be encrypted is reduced a lot, which results in an high efficiency with low encryption rate. As the methodology, a digital hologram is first Fresnel transformed for reconstruction and the result is secondly Fresnel transformed to concentrate the energy into the center of the diffraction plane to encrypt the concentrated region only. For the 2nd transform, energy concentration degree is determined by adjusting the diffraction distance and encryption strength is determined by adjusting the scaling factor. For this we analyze the optimal encryption area according to the diffraction distance and the scaling factor. When applying the proposed method with diffraction distance of 20m the object information was visually unrecognizable with the encryption ratio only 0.005% ~ 0.02%.
