In this research, in order to effectively utilize the petroleum residue pitch, it was used as an adsorbent for removal of cesium ion. In this experiment, acid modification (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid) treatment was performed on the adsorbent to improve the ability to remove low-concentration cesium ions dissolved in water. As a result, when the reaction was performed with 9 M sulfuric acid at 25 ℃ and for 240 min, the removal efficiencies of 1.0 and 2.5 mg/L cesium ions were 66 and 51%, respectively. In addition, as the adsorption time increased in the batch experiment, the removal capacity of 1.0 and 2.5 mg/L cesium ions was improved, and when the adsorption reached for 32 hr, the removal efficiencies were 72 and 68%, respectively. Also, in order to increase the ability to remove the remaining cesium ions, an experiment was performed by temperature change (25, 37, 49 ℃), and 1.0 and 2.5 mg/L cesium ions contained in water under the operating conditions of 49 ℃ and 32 hr showed removal efficiencies of 90 and 81%, respectively. Consequently, these experimental results were intended to be used as an adsorption technology that can economically treat low-concentration cesium ions contained in water.
Anion adsorption properties of organobentonites modified by two cationic polymers, hexadecyltrimmethylammonium (HDTMA) and cetylpyridinum (CP), were investigated. The organobentonites showed the significant expansion of basal spacing to 42.0 $\AA$ at room temperature. The adsorption experiments were conducted for the 0.2 g of organobentonites with 40 mL solutions of various concentrations of anions such as nitrate, sulfate and phosphate. As a result, the organobentonites showed excellent adsorption capacities for those anions whereas untreated bentonite showed very low adsorption capacity. Adsorption rate of HDTMA-bentonite was about 90% for 100 mg/L solutions of nitrate and phosphate, and that of CP-bentonite was 97% for 100 mg/L solution of nitrate. Adsorption behaviors were slightly different for the different organobentonites and anions. Both organobentonites showed relatively higher adsorption rate for nitrate and phosphate than sulfate. Therefore, these organobentonites showing high anion adsorption capacities can be used far the removal of deleterious anions in the treatment of environmental pollution.

In this study, amine derivatives and ion exchange resins were selected to actively control penetration ions ($SO{_4}^{2-}$, $Cl^-$) as the element technology of repair materials for concrete structures in drainage environments. Ions ($SO{_4}^{2-}$, $Cl^-$) adsorption performance and corrosion resistance of calcium hydroxide solution with amine derivative and ion exchange resin were confirmed by ion chromatography and potentiostat analysis. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the amine derivative is excellent in the adsorption of chlorine ion and the ion exchange resin is excellent in the adsorption of sulfate ion. It has been confirmed that corrosion resistance can be increased by proper combination of two materials in the calcium hydroxide solution containing sulfate ion and chloride ion simulating sewage environment.
$TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$ was prepared by precipitation from the mixed solution of titanium chloride and hydrochloric acid followed by modification with sulfuric acid. The characterization of prepared catalyst was performed by using IR, XPS, XRD and DT-TGA. Infrared spectra of $TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$ showed bidentate sulfate ion coordinated to the surface of $TiO_2$. The acid strength of modified catalyst was at least $H_0{\leq}-14.52$, showing the superacidic properties which are attributed to the double bond nature of S=O of the complex formed by the interaction of $TiO_2$ with sulfate ion. For $TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$, the specific surface area increased and the transition from the amorphous to anatase phase occurred at a higher temperature, as compared with pure $TiO_2$.
It is of importance to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) in solution which was leached from nickel laterite ore. In order to investigate the possibility of separating Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II), adsorption behavior of the three metals from individual and mixed sulfate solutions was investigated by using Diphonix resin. The concentration of each metal in solution was fixed at 100 ppm and the pH of the sulfuric acid solution was changed from 5 to 7. At ambient temperature, the adsorption behavior of the three metal ions followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The loading capacity of Diphonix resin for the three metal ions was obtained from the Langmuir isotherm. Since adsorption behavior of the three metal ions from the mixed solution was similar to each other, it was found to be difficult to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) by using Diphonix resin.
In this study, the depression behavior of zinc sulfate on the sphalerite with the addition of potassium butyl xanthate was investigated to clear the relationship between zinc sulfate and xanthate in depression of sphalerite. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the depress effect of zinc sulfate on the sphalerite declined with the increase of its addition amount. From the results of SEM-EDS and FT-IR analysis, it was found out that the amorphous precipitate of metal xanthate (Zn-BX) was formed in sphalerite concentrate, when the solubility product of [Zn+]·[BX] in the pulp solution exceeded 3.71×10-11, which is the solubility of Zn-butyl xanthate. It is considered that the Zn-butyl xanthate had a negative effect on the depression of sphalerite.

It has been recognized for a long time that sulfate ions in seawater and soils can cause severe damage to concrete structures. There have been numerous field and lab. studies on the distress caused to concrete structures generated by sulfate attack. All these investigations emphasize that in order to understand the deterioration of concrete due to sulfate attack. Until now, however, it has been difficult to define the precise nature of the mechanism of sulfate attack because of its complex behavior. Thus, this work dealt with the deterioration mechanism caused by sulfate attack and the evaluation criteria.
Recovery of sulfuric acid is very important after biomass converted to sugar by acid hydrolysis. In this work, the separation of sulfuric acid from sulfuric acid/glucose solution was studied by electrodiaysis. Three chamber method, which requires both anion membrane and cation membrane, is the most commonly used in the electrodialysis process, but two chamber method using only an anion membrane was the focus of this study. Sulfuric acid was perfectly separated from a mixture of 10~30 wt% glucose and 1~3 M sulfuric acid by electrodialysis using two chamber method. The separation rate of sulfuric acid lineary increased with higher current density when the affect of diffusion and convection of the membrane was small. Without electric energy, 45% of sulfuric acid was separated by diffusion and convection only.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the contents of sulfuric acid in Science textbooks and Chemistry II textbooks, and to survey 10 pre-service teachers' perceptions who majored chemistry education related to sulfuric acid. As results, most of the Science textbooks represented that sulfuric acid was divided into two $H^+$ and one $SO_4{^{2-}}$. But this mistake might be corrected because sulfuric acid was divided into one $H^+$and one $HSO_4{^-}$. Most of Chemistry II textbooks represented ionization steps of sulfuric acid, but same mistake was represented in some of Chemistry II textbooks. $HSO_4{^-}$ is a weak acid, but some Chemistry II textbooks represented $HSO_4{^-}$ as a strong acid. As results of the survey related to pre-service teachers' perceptions, some pre-service teachers didn't know the situation of particles in sulfuric acid solution, and they were affected on by the learning of high school classrooms.
