  • Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and adolescents in the last decade. Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. There is no single or simple solution to the childhood obesity epidemic, but to learn that obesity is closely related to lifestyle factors including poor fitness and physical inactivity as well as prolonged sitting time in conjunction with westernized dietary habits. In addition to a healthy and balanced diet, promotion of physical activity combined with carefully supervised resistance exercise training, and reduced screen time is a primary recommendation for the prevention and treatment of obesity in children and adolescents. This review provides evidence based data to support this multiple-step physical activity strategy as the most effective and preventive means against childhood obesity.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the properties of leisure activity and the life satisfaction in the case of Korea Science Academy(KSA) students and Min Jok Leadership Academy(MLA) students. The participants consisted of KSA students(male:122, female:44) and MLA students(male:71, female:113) with voluntary consent. We had achieved the following results. 1) For leisure activity, KSA and MLA's male students showed the highest ratio for participation in the sports, KSA's female students in the taste-culture activity and MLA's female students in the sight-seeing. 2) The response showed that stress treatment was the principal reason of leisure activity's need. 3) Over 50% of the male students were satisfied with the present leisure activity but 12% of the KSA male students and 14% of the MLA female 14% answered to the "unsatisfactory" or "very unsatisfactory". 4) Mental stress treatment showed the highest ratio in the response to the question asking the principal straight motive of leisure activity. 5) 75$\sim$80% students considered the leisure activity as an important means to maintain health and physical fitness. 6) Though most students participated in the activities with friends, 30% of the students answered that they participate by themselves. 7) It was shown that 51% and 40% of KSA male and female students, 40% of MLA male students and 48% of MLA female students participated in leisure Activity planlessly. 8) The average leisure time of the most students was less than 2 hours a day and Male students were observed to have more leisure time than female, and KSA students to have more time than MLA students. 9) In weekdays, KSA's male students enjoyed mostly the sport for leisure activity, but taste-culture activity showed the highest ratio in the case of MLA students and KSA female students. 10) In the case of male students, 38% of KSA and 54% students of MLA did not play computer game at all, and 70% of the female students in total did not play computer game. Also, the proper control-method was in need because the result showed that KSA's male students spent more time in playing computer game than MLA's male students did. 61% of KSA female students and 53% of MLA female students answered that they did not play compute game at all during weekends. Whereas It showed that 26% of KSA male students played computer game over 3 hours during weekends. 11) The biggest reason for being unable to participate in the leisure activity was the insufficiency of time due to homework or studying for quiz. The laziness also showed high percentage of 19$\sim$25% varying between the groups. 12) The life satisfaction of KSA male students was visibly higher(p<.05) than that of MLA male students but the significantly difference wasn't shown in the case of female students.

  • The purpose of this study is to statistically summarize the effect sizes using meta-analysis of various Kigong programs implemented on the subject of physical health of the elderly. Including 23 academic journal studies and 11 thesis studies reported domestically until 2016, a total of 34 studies were selected and analyzed to verify the effect sizes of programs, program types, measuring variables, and activity elements. The findings are as follows. First, it was found that the programs were midium effective with overall average effect size showing .748(p<.001). A program of Tai-Chi indicated the largest effect size of .836(p<.001). In terms of measuring variables, physical strength showed the largest effect size of .806(p<.001). In terms of gender by group, it was found that groups consisting only of men indicated the largest effect size of 2.388(p<.001). As for effect size by group of disease state, normal group with showed the highest effect size of .804(p<.001). Second, in activity elements, 31~60 by the group size has the largest effect size of .873(p<.001), total number of sessions for 31~40 sessions indicated the largest effect value of .829(p<.001). As for number of sessions per week, 5 sessions showed largest effect value of .918(p<.001), in terms of activity time, 50 minutes showed large effect value of 1.391(p<.001). As summarized above, Kigong programs are midium effective for physical health of the elderly, as an activity elements to consider when configuring the program, for group size 31~60, 31~40 sessions in total, 5 sessions per week and 50 minutes per sessions were recommended.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of aquatic exercise on pain, fatigue, physical fitness, disability in ADL, and psychological variables in women with arthritis. Methods: With a quasi-experimental design, 46 women who has arthritis were assigned into an experimental group (n=23), or a control group (n=23). Data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANCOVA. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 60.9 years in the experimental group and 59.8 years in the control group. The pretest scores of the outcome variables were similar between the two groups except fatigue and waist flexibility. After controlling fatigue and waist flexibility, the experimental group showed more improvement than the control group in Rt shoulder flexibility score (F=4.36, p=.04), sit-up score (F=32.34, p=.00), and muscle strength score (F=30.78, p=.00). The score of disability in ADL decreased in the experimental group (F=5.49, p=.02). The depression score decreased in the experimental group (F=12.01, p=.00), and self-efficacy was improved more than the other variables(F=8.88, p=.00). Conclusion: Aquatic exercise is likely to be an effective nursing intervention to improve physical fitness, to reduce pain, fatigue, and disability in ADL, and to enhance psychological functions in women with arthritis.

  • Purpose: To examine the effects of a fall prevention exercise program on the community-dwelling elderly. Methods: The nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design involved 16. subjects in the experimental group and 17 in the control group. The experimental group received the fall prevention exercise program for 50 minutes, three times each week for 12 weeks. Results: After program participation, the experimental group of subjects showed significantly higher lower limb strength higher endurance, and higher balance than the control group of subjects. The danger of being injured in a fall was also significantly lower in the experimental group. However, there were no significant differences in body constituent factors, agility, and flexibility between the two groups after the intervention. Conclusion: The 12 week fall prevention exercise program was effective in increasing lower limb muscular strength, endurance, balance, and body strength, and in decreasing the danger status of fall injuries. These results suggest that this fall prevention exercise program could be utilized as an effective nursing intervention modality in elderly persons.

  • We experimented white mice for investigation on the effects of FIR Using special equipment for generation and survival activity. Because of no difference of consumption of water and food, rate of impregnation and birth, sexual ratio of second generation and weight between natural condition, FIR is proved no harmful effect on living organisms. In addition, We observed the survival activity of white mice at the severe circumstances. The survival activity of white mice under FIR circumstance increased 122% than that of mice under natural condition As the result, we surveyed the fact that FIR has good effect on white mice for physical strength and endurance ability.
