From March 11 to April 17, 2019, 137 nurses who worked in comprehensive nursing care service ward at four general hospitals were studied. The results of this study suggest that occupational stress has a negative correlation with safety control and patient safety-related nursing activities, and occupational stress negatively affects safety control and patient safety-related nursing activities. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the work environment will be improved to reduce the occupational stress in order to promote the safety control and patient safety-related nursing activities of nurses in comprehensive nursing care service ward, and the development of various programs for occupational stress management will be necessary.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional labor and job stress on patient safety management activities in emergency room nurse. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 143 nurses working in the emergency room of small and medium-sized hospitals. As factors influencing patient safety management activities, emotional labor, job stress, demographic characteristics, and work characteristics were investigated. Stepwise multiple regression analysis were used for factors affecting patient safety management activities. There were significant differences in patient safety management activities by age, experience in emergency room, position, work pattern, and intention to move to another department. In the regression analysis, the factors that had a significant effect on patient safety management activities were job stress and choice to work in the emergency room, and the explanatory power of these variables was 27%. It was found that the higher the job stress, the lower the patient safety management activity. In conclusion, it is necessary to manage job stress arrange departments according to individual needs to improve patient safety management activities of nurses in the emergency room of small and medium-sized hospitals.

  • The Patient Safety Act was enacted on July 26, 2016. Patient safety law is a method to prevent harm by collecting and accumulating various errors through the reporting system. Therefore, in order for this law to be successfully implemented, it is necessary to vitalize 'the autonomous reporting and reporting learning system of patient safety accidents'. And In order for this system to be activated, a large amount of reporting data accumulation is a prerequisite. Nevertheless, there were only two reports in about 17 months. In this paper, I will criticize the validity of the current autonomous reporting system and the two proposed amendments, I would like to propose the introduction of a partial obligation reporting system.

  • The purpose of this research is to confirm the degree of awareness, knowledge and attitude for the safety management of patients in elderly care facilities, to investigate the factors that affect the safety performance of patients by nursing caregivers, and to provide basic material for the development of educational programs for strengthening performance. The research target audience was 142 nursing caregivers working in the G metropolitan city and S city elderly care facilities, and the data collected from 7/10/2020 to 7/28/2020, were analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The ability of a nursing caregiver to perform patient safety is increasing as a result of higher education, higher patient safety awareness, and also more positive attitude towards patient safety. The major factors that affect the safety performance of patients by nursing caregivers were attitude toward patient safety, patient safety awareness, and the amount of participation in patient safety education. It's explanatory power was 26.9%. Based on the results of this research, we propose a study to confirm the positive effects of patient safety consciousness and attitude by confirming the education program completed by nursing caregivers and systematizing the education method and design in the education program of nursing caregivers.

  • This descriptive study was aimed to identify factors which influence safety performance through evaluation of nurse's perception of patient safety culture and safety control in general hospital. Self-administered web surveys were conducted by 342 nurses who employed in general hospital from May 09 to May 13, 2014. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 statistical program. The results of analysis revealed that the score of safety culture perception was 3.34, safety control was 3.50, safety performance was 3.53 and all scores were higher level than usual. There were significant positive correlation between safety performance and perception of patient safety culture, safety control (r=.463~.645, p<.001). The positively influencing factors of safety performance are marital status, frequency of accident reports, general perception of patient safety and safety control. Explanation ratio of the variables for the safety performance was 52.0% in this study(F=4.252, p=.004). This study findings suggest that it would be useful as a preliminary report of nurse's intervention strategy through confirmation of the nurse's positive effect to improve safety performance in general hospital.

  • This study examined the relationships among patient safety competence, critical thinking disposition, problem-solving competence, and self-efficacy of clinical nurses to identify the factors influencing the patient safety competence. A convenience sample of 373 nurses working in 4 general hospitals in a Metropolitan area in Korea was selected. After obtaining IRB approval, data collection was done with a structured self-administered questionnaire from October 14th to November 4th, 2014. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. The participants showed a moderate level of patient safety competence ($3.75{\pm}0.37$), of critical thinking disposition ($3.43{\pm}0.27$), of problem solving competence ($3.54{\pm}0.30$), and of self-efficacy ($3.58{\pm}0.47$). The patient safety competence of the participants showed a significant correlation with the critical thinking disposition (r=.493, p<.001), problem solving competence (r=.616, p<.001), and self-efficacy (r=.475, p<.001). The significant factors influencing the patient safety competence were problem solving competence (${\beta}=.403$, p<.001), self-efficacy (${\beta}=.156$, p=.005), critical thinking disposition (${\beta}=.130$, p=.018), and having the experience of reporting patient safety accidents (${\beta}=.137$, p=.002). The results suggest that educational programs to enhance the critical thinking disposition, problem-solving competence, and self-efficacy would develop the patient safety competence of clinical nurses. In addition, more effort should be placed into reinforcing the patient safety competence by activating the report of patient safety accidents.

  • This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing patient safety behavior and performance of infection control in nursing students. This study was a descriptive survey based on data collected from August 28, 2017, to September 22, 2017 from 174 third and fourth year nursing students at E university located in S city of Gyeonggi. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW 23.0 program to conduct an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, post-hoc Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The average scores of patient safety behavior and performance of infection control were $4.00{\pm}0.55$ and $4.31{\pm}0.50$, respectively. Patient safety behavior and performance of infection control showed a strong positive correlation. Patient safety behavior was positively influenced by confidence levels of patient safety and awareness of the infection control, and the explanatory power of the model (R2)[ED highlight - should this be R2? If so, change throughout the paper.] was 55.1%. Predictors of the performance of infection control were patient safety knowledge, confidence levels regarding patient safety, and awareness of infection control, and the R2 was 68.1%. Common factors influencing patient safety behavior and infection control performance were patient safety confidence and development of effective clinical practicum education programs to increase confidence in patient safety and infection control.
