  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the direct and indirect modes of influences environmental dynamism exerts on opportunism, one of important relationship factors. This study particularly delves into the indirect modes of influence in terms of control strategy (control mechanism) and control structure (bureaucratic structuring). To this end, a survey research has been conducted of 200 suppliers in business relationships with Korean hypermarket retailers. An analysis of the collected data indicates that while environmental dynamism has a positive influence on the control mechanisms such as monitoring and incentives, it does not have a negative influence on the control structure such as participation. And then it has a positive influence on the opportunism of suppliers. In addition, participation has a negative influence on the opportunism, but monitoring and incentives do not have a negative influence on it. This study discusses how both retailers and their suppliers should respond to the domestic retail business environment with highly dynamic characteristics, in order to achieve a long-term win-win partnership with one another. It also presents ideas to retailers with regard to what kinds of management strategies and management efforts required to effectively control the opportunism of suppliers.

  • In today's world, the ability to adapt to the rapidly changing environment is fundamental to the survival and success of any organizations. This is particularly true for the Korean retailing industry which is in the throe of sweeping developments. Against the backdrop of an increasing importance of the environmental factors, it is imperative to look into what efforts are required of corporate enterprises in order to achieve successful long-term partnerships between and among the parties involved in the retail value chain. In spite of the critical importance of the need to understand the environmental factors and their influences on the retail value chain, a serious theoretical and empirical study into this subject has never been conducted. Moreover, previous research has overlooked the various mechanisms influencing the value chain in terms of ,control strategy' and 'control structure'. The purpose of this study is to investigate the direct and indirect modes of influences environmental dynamism exerts on opportunism, one of important relationship factors. This study particularly delves into the indirect modes of influence in terms of control strategy (control mechanism) and control structure (bureaucratic structuring). To this end, a survey research has been conducted of 200 suppliers in business relationships with Korean hypermarket retailers. The survey results show that environmental dynamism has a positive correlation with the opportunism of suppliers. In addition, the control mechanisms such as monitoring and incentives employed by retailers, in turn, have an indirect influence on the opportunism of suppliers. In other words, the monitoring of retailers has a positive correlation with the opportunism of suppliers, while the use of bureaucratic structuring has a negative correlation with opportunism.

  • In these days of severe changes in the environment and economic slump, it is indispensable for firms to cope with the environment effectively. This study is an attempt to investigate the mechanisms through which output sector munificence and dynamism affect distribution channel performances, such as, satisfaction, trust, and commitment. Especially, this study focus on moderating effects on distribution channel integration that has not been investigated in the past. For the purpose of empirical testing, 70 corporate channels, 120 contractual channels, and 100 conventional marketing channels have been selected and analyzed. According to the result from moderated regression analysis, munificence strengthens distribution channel performances, while dynamism weakens them. And integration reinforces the effects.

  • While a number of studies have recognized the importance of environment of channel systems and consequences of changed environment, only limited studies have dealt with this issue theoretically and practically. The purpose of this study is to empirically validate whether one dimension of environment, called dynamism, has an influence on the relationship characteristics such as transaction specific investment, opportunism and conflict or not; further, it is designed to delve into whether these relationship characteristics have any influence on one crucial relationship quality, 'trust' and its two constituent dimensions - credibility and benevolence. In order to provide empirical validation, a survey was conducted to 163 sales office managers at a major newspaper publisher in Korea. An analysis of the data retrieved from this survey indicated that while environmental dynamism has a positive influence on the publisher's opportunism and conflict perceived by the sales office managers, it did not show a direct influence on the transaction specific investment made by the publisher. Furthermore, while publisher's transaction specific investment had a positive influence on the credibility and the benevolence respectively, publisher's opportunism and level of sales office conflict had a negative influence on the credibility and the benevolence respectively. Currently, a publisher is facing an unprecedentedly dynamic environment. This study should provide ample implications for the publisher in establishing trust, which is a crucial condition in developing and maintaining a long-term successful relationship with its sales offices.

  • This study aims to investigate the impacts of small venture firms' capabilities on their international performance and the role of environmental dynamics in these relationships. Specifically, the study examines how international marketing, technology, and network capabilities of small venture firms influence their international performance and how market and technology turbulences moderates these relationships. Employing 162 small venture firms in Korea, the result of multiple regression analysis found that marketing capability did not affect international performance while technology and network capabilities had positive, significant impacts on international performance. Market turbulence was found to have a negative moderation effect on the relationship of network capability and international performance. Technology turbulence had a negative moderation effect on the relationship of technology capability and international performance and a positive moderation effect on the relationship of network capability and international performance. The findings confirm the importance of capabilities in improving the international performance of small venture firms and generate strategic implications for their international success by emphasizing the effect of environmental dynamics.

  • The firms must perform both exploitation activities that efficiently use current resources and exploration activities that capture new opportunities. A company that simultaneously performs two opposite attributes, exploitation and exploration activities, is called an 'Ambidexerity Organization' or 'Organizational ambidexterity', which is called the Ambidextrous organization. This study examines whether the key factors of entrepreneurial orientation affect a firm's performance using two-handed strategies, and empirically analyzes the moderating effects of environmental dynamics. The results show that the entrepreneurial orientation has a significant effect on a firm's performance in the Ambidextrous organization. In addition, the moderating effect of environmental dynamics showed a moderating effect on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and organizational ambidexterity. This study not only suggests practical implications for SMEs, including venture firms and startups, but also has a significant impact on the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and a firm's performance. It is expected to make academic contributions by introducing variables and analyzing influential relationships.
