Development of a General Purpose Simulator for Evaluation of Vehicle LIDAR Sensors and its Application (차량용 라이다 센서의 평가를 위한 범용 시뮬레이터 개발 및 적용)

  • In the development of autonomous vehicles, the importance of LIDAR sensors becomes larger. For sensor selection or algorithm development, it is difficult to test expensive LIDAR sensors mounted on a vehicle under various driving environment. In this study, we developed a simulator that is generally applicable for various vehicle LIDAR sensors based on the generalized geometric modeling of the common processes associated with vehicle LIDAR sensors. By configuring this simulator with the specific sensors being widely used, we performed the data simulation and quality analysis. Also, we applied the simulation data to obstacle detection and evaluated the applicability of the selected sensor. The developed simulator enables various experiments and algorithm development in parallel with hardware implementation prior to the deployment and operation of a sensor.

  • IoT is attracting attention as the development of the Internet and the spread of smart devices are rapidly increasing worldwide. As IoT is integrated into everyday life, the market is getting bigger. So, experts predict that IoT devices will grow to more than one trillion in a decade. Techniques related to IoT are also being developed steadily, and studies are underway to develop IoT in various fields. However, vendors launching IoT services do not interact with data from other platforms. Therefore, it is limited to growing into a big market by facing the obstacle called the silo phenomenon. To solve this problem, web technology attracts attention. Web technology can interact with data regardless of platform, and it can not only develop various services using the data, but also reduce unnecessary costs for developers. In this paper, we have studied a web - based open IoT system that can transmit data independently in real time to the IoT platform.

  • 국내에서의 범람홍수 및 범람으로 인한 제방붕괴 특성은 그 해석상의 어려움으로 인해 주로 과거 범람상황 및 지형도를 통한 경험적 추정 등에 의존해 오고 있는 실정으로 정교한 물리학적 이론에 근거하지 못하였으므로 범람홍수량, 제방의 붕괴폭 등을 정확하게 예측하기에는 미흡한 점이 많았다. 도시하천과 같이 제방 인접한 곳에 주거, 산업시설 등이 밀집하고 있는 지역에서의 제방붕괴로 인한 홍수류의 범람은 막대한 인명 및 재산피해를 발생시키는 큰 재해가 될 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해서 홍수시 제방월류로 인한 제방붕괴 양상을 예측하고 이를 통해 범람유량의 정확한 예측을 통하여 도시하천 제방 계획시 홍수피해와 투자액을 감안한 경제적인 하천 제방단면 결정을 위한 기본자료로 활용될 수 있고, 도시 중요시설물의 입지 선정시 홍수피해에 대한 판단자료로 이용될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서 개발된 모형을 이용하여 Teton 댐, Mantaro landslide 댐, Spirit Lake 장애물 댐 등에 적용하여 개발된 모형의 정확성을 입증하였다. 적용결과 개발된 모형은 기존의 모형과 같은 결과를 나타내어 국내 계산환경에 적용가능함을 보여 앞으로 이용가능성이 큰것을 알 수 있었다. 적용결과 파이핑의 발생위치의 영향은 대체로 파이핑의 위치가 제체의 윗부분에 위치할수록 최대 유출량은 커지는 것으로 나타났으나 Lawn Lake 댐의 경우에는 사면의 식생의 영향으로 다른 결과를 나타내었다. 점착력은 경우에는 점착력이 클수록 유출량의 크기는 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며 마찰각은 최대 붕괴폭의 크기 및 발생시간, 댐의 높이와 폭, 저수용량 등과 유출량이 연관있어 좀 더 많은 계산결과를 이용하여 심도있는 고찰이 요구되었다. 입자의 중간크기, 공극률, 균일성의 경우 적용된 댐들 모두 유사한 결과를 나타내었고 변수들이 커질수록 유출량도 증가하였다. 댐 사면 경사의 경우에는 상,하류 사면 모두 경사가 완만할수록 유출량이 감소하였다. 위의 결과를 통해 개발된 제방붕괴 해석모형은 좀 더 많은 연구와 적용을 통해 개선과 검증이 이루어진다면 국내 제방붕괴해석에 필요한 해석모형이 될 수 있다고 판단되었다.

Distributed Task Assignment Algorithm for SEAD Mission of Heterogeneous UAVs Based on CBBA Algorithm (CBBA 기반 SEAD 임무를 위한 이종무인기의 분산형 임무할당 알고리듬 연구)

  • This paper presents a distributed task assignment algorithm for the suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD) mission of heterogeneous UAVs, based on the consensus-based bundle algorithm (CBBA). SEAD mission can be modeled as a task assignment problem of multiple UAVs performing multiple air defense targets, and UAVs performing SEAD mission consist of the weasel for destruction of enemy's air defense system and the striker for the battle damage assessment (BDA) or other tasks. In this paper, a distributed task assignment algorithm considering path-planning in presence of terrain obstacle is developed for heterogeneous UAVs, and then it is applied to SEAD mission. Through numerical simulations the performance and the applicability of the proposed method are tested.

Vision-based Walking Guidance System Using Top-view Transform and Beam-ray Model (탑-뷰 변환과 빔-레이 모델을 이용한 영상기반 보행 안내 시스템)

  • This paper presents a walking guidance system for blind pedestrians in an outdoor environment using just one single camera. Unlike many existing travel-aid systems that rely on stereo-vision, the proposed system aims to get necessary information of the road environment by using just single camera fixed at the belly of the user. To achieve this goal, a top-view image of the road is used, on which obstacles are detected by first extracting local extreme points and then verified by the polar edge histogram. Meanwhile, user motion is estimated by using optical flow in an area close to the user. Based on these information extracted from image domain, an audio message generation scheme is proposed to deliver guidance instructions via synthetic voice to the blind user. Experiments with several sidewalk video-clips show that the proposed walking guidance system is able to provide useful guidance instructions under certain sidewalk environments.

Development of Remote Control Station and Unmanned Ground Vehicle using Emergency Operation Technique in Combat Field Situation (전장 환경에서의 비상 운용기법을 활용한 무인지상로봇과 원격통제장치 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose a remote control station based on the awareness of various combat field situation in order for operating multiple unmanned ground vehicles. Our remote control station is capable of sending a variety of messages designed for carrying out the skillful movement for collaborate among unmanned ground vehicles, gathering the information related with combat field situation, and completing the assigned missions which are described by operator in advance. To verify the effectiveness of our proposal, we develop the sophisticated remote control station and conduct a great many remote operating tests for multiple unmanned ground vehicles.

  • Recently, the necessity of the autonomous mobile robot is emphasized in order to enlarge the scope of activity and actively cope with the change of work environment. This paper proposes the algorithm which enables the mobile robot to avoid obstacles and lead it to the destination by the shortest path. And we verify the usability by a simulation. We made the algorithm with micro-GA and $\lambda$-geometry MRA. The area of simulation is limited to 320(width)$\times$200(length) pixels and one pixel is one centimeter. When we planned the path with only $\lambda$-geometry MRA, we could find the direction for path planning but could not find the shortest path. But when we planned the path with $\lambda$-geometry MRA and micro-GA, we could find the shortest path. So the algorithm enables us to find the direction for path planning and the shortest path.

  • Pulse Detonation Engine (PDE) has been considered as a future propulsion system for broad range of operation and higher thermal efficiency. Various subsystem technologies have been studied for more than decade to improve the performance of the potential system. New valve systems has been developed for the stable operation at high frequency including inflow-driven valve, rotary valve and valveless system. To foster the detonation initiation with a little ignition energy, plasma ignition method and DDT (deflagration to detonation transition) acceleration method such as swept ramp mechanism have been studied. Fluidic nozzle system and other nozzle system are the ongoing research topics to maximize the propulsion performance of the PDE. Present paper introduces the state of the art of PDE subsystem technologies developed in recent years.

An Autonomous Navigation System for Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (무인수중로봇을 위한 지능형 자율운항시스템)

  • UUV(Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) should possess an intelligent control software performing intellectual faculties such as cognition, decision and action which are parts of domain expert's ability, because unmanned underwater robot navigates in the hazardous environment where human being can not access directly. In this paper, we suggest a RVC intelligent system architecture which is generally available for unmanned vehicle and develope an autonomous navigation system for UUV, which consists of collision avoidance system, path planning system, and collision-risk computation system. We present an obstacle avoidance algorithm using fuzzy relational products for the collision avoidance system, which guarantees the safety and optimality in view of traversing path. Also, we present a new path-planning algorithm using poly-line for the path planning system. In order to verify the performance of suggested autonomous navigation system, we develop a simulation system, which consists of environment manager, object, and 3-D viewer.

  • Advanced safety vehicle (ASV) equipped with intelligent drivers advisory functions for controlling vehicle to follow the lead vehicle and/or warning drivers on forward traffic impediments according to the roadway and traffic circumstances has been recently developed and on the market internationally. Standardization processes for ASV system functions have been issued in IS0/TC204 Working Group 14 (Vehicle/Roadway Warning and Control System) since 1995. Research projects developing test and evaluation technologies for ASV in establishing safety standards and/or conformity related to the national roadway and traffic circumstances are under study internationally. In Korea, an integrated test and evaluation Program was developed for the assessment of adaptive cruise control (ACC) system under the ITS research and development projects funded by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT). This paper demonstrates the integrated test and evaluation Programs for ACC system based on the draft international standard with related to the domestic roadway and traffic conditions. Field tests fulfilled under the scenarios based on the integrated test & evaluation programs for ACC system are discussed along with a review of earlier research work regarding international standards and the safety regulations.
