  • This paper proposes a new document clustering system using fuzzy logic-based genetic algorithm (GA) and semantic vector expansion technology. It has been known in many GA papers that the success depends on two factors, the diversity of the population and the capability to convergence. We use the fuzzy logic-based operators to adaptively adjust the influence between these two factors. In traditional document clustering, the most popular and straightforward approach to represent the document is vector space model (VSM). However, this approach not only leads to a high dimensional feature space, but also ignores the semantic relationships between some important words, which would affect the accuracy of clustering. In this paper we use latent semantic analysis (LSA)to expand the documents to corresponding semantic vectors conceptually, rather than the individual terms. Meanwhile, the sizes of the vectors can be reduced drastically. We test our clustering algorithm on 20 news groups and Reuter collection data sets. The results show that our method outperforms the conventional GA in various document representation environments.

  • Abiotic stress conditions such as cold, drought, and salinity trigger physiological and morphological changes and yield loss in plants. Hence, plants adapt to adverse environments by developing tolerance through complex regulation of genes related to various metabolic processes. This study was conducted to construct a coexpression network for multidirectional analysis of salt-stress response genes in Brassica rapa (Chinese cabbage). To construct the coexpression network, we collected KBGP-24K microarray data from the B. rapa EST and microarray database (BrEMD) and performed time-based expression analyses of B. rapa plants. The constructed coexpression network model showed 1,853 nodes, 5,740 edges, and 142 connected components (correlation coefficient > 0.85). On the basis of the significantly expressed genes in the network, we concluded that the development of salt tolerance is closely related to the activation of $Na^+$ transport by reactive oxygen species signaling and the accumulation of proline in Chinese cabbage.

  • Genetically modified (GM) pepper H15 containing the gene for cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) coat protein (CP) and its control line non-GM pepper P2377 were investigated for their allergic risk. Amino acid sequence of the inserted gene product CMV-CP was compared with those of known allergens. No known allergen had greater than 35% amino acid sequence homology over an 80 amino acid window or more than 8 consecutive identical amino acids. Protein patterns of GM and non-GM pepper extracts were evaluated by SDS-PAGE, which showed similar distribution of protein bands for both GM and non-GM pepper. Antigen-antibody reactions were compared between GM and its non-transgenic parental control. ELISA and immunoblot analysis of sera from allergic patients showed some IgE reactivity; however, no differences were observed between GM pepper H15 and P2377. We therefore conclude that CMV-CP is less likely to be an allergen; the protein composition and allergenicity of the GM pepper H15 is not different from that of P2377 and safe as a commercial host.

  • Genetic engineering, which was started by the E. coli gene manipulation, has led to rapid development in all area of life sciences. Recently, genetic engineering, which is an insertion or a removal technique of a specific gene on chromosomes, has been established and is usefully available in the applied life sciences including medicine and agriculture. In this review, we briefly explain pest management focusing on Release of Insects carrying a Dominant Lethal (RIDL) that is a highly economic and environment-friendly method of biological pest control. Although at present RIDL confronts many difficulties in applying directly in fields, it will be one of the best methods for the pest management in the near future without pesticides and disturbing ecosystem by the continued development of genetic engineering. However, these powerful techniques must be considered with great care to avoid harm to ecosystem.

  • Genetic algorithm, which uses principles of natural selection and population genetics, is an efficient method to find out an optimal solution. In conventional genetic algorithms, however, the size of gene pool needs to be increased to insure a convergency. Therefore, many memory spaces and much computation time were needed. Also, since child chromosomes were generated by chromosome crossover and gene mutation, the algorithms have a complex structure. Thus, in this paper, a compact stereo matching algorithm using a population-based incremental learning based on probability vector is proposed to reduce these problems. The PBIL method is modified for matching environment. Since th proposed algorithm uses a probability vector and eliminates gene pool, chromosome crossover, and gene mutation, the matching algorithm is simple and the computation load is considerably reduced. Even though the characteristics of images are changed, stable outputs are obtained without the modification of the matching algorithm.

  • Presented is a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for dynamic partitioning an ATM LANE(LAN Emulation) network. LANE proves to be one of the best solutions to provide guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for mid-size campus or enterprise networks with minor modification of legacy LAN facilities. However, there are few researches on the efficient LANE network operations to deal with scalability issues arising from broadcast traffic delivery. To cope with this scalability issue, proposed is a decision model named LANE Partitioning Problem (LPP) which aims at partitioning the entire LANE network into multiple Emulated LANs (ELANS), each of which works as an independent virtual LAN.

본 논문이 지금부터 e-business 를 시작하려고 하는 분, e-business 시스템의 개발을 시작하려고 하는 분께 단기간의 e-business 실현을 위한 하나의 지침이 된다면 다행이겠다.formable template is used to optimize the matching. • A 0.4 kb cDNA fragment was isolated from mRNA of UV or mechanical wound damaged Pleurotus sajor-caju by the differential display method. Expression of the gene corresponding to this cDNA fragment was highly induced by mechanical wound damage or UV treatment. This gene showed only basal level expression in mycelia, stipe, and cap under normal growth conditions. Sequencing analysis showed that this cDNA fragment contains partial open reading frame. Homology search using genbank database revealed that although this gene do not have homology with already reported wound induced genes, it has a significant sequence homology in defined region with the cdc2-related protein kinase gene which is known to be involved in negative regulation of meiotic maturation in Xenopus oocytes.

  • The eco-toxicological effects of endocrine disrupter, 4-nonylphenol (4NP) were observed and detected on the harpacticoid copepod, Tigriopus japonicus s.l. obtained and cultur-ed from our coast. There were no significant differences survival rate, sex ratio, and fecundity on T. japonicus s.l. at as low as $30{\mu}gL^{-1}$ of 4 NP exposure. Whereas, 4NP induced developmental delay, decreasing biomass and body size of nauplius and copepodite. Also, Differentially Expressed Gene (DEG) was conducted to detecting gene expression for potential biomarkers response to 4NP. As a result, full lifecycle research on morphology and gene expression of T. japonicus s.l. suggested potential bioindicators or biomarkers for environmental monitoring and assessments.
