  • Although studies and investments on electro-magnetic fields in terrestrial areas are being conducted, they are not applied to a ship. Especially ship is consist of Top Side, Bridge, and Engine Room. Top Side is mounted Antenna and radar. Bridge is mounted navigation and navigation equipment that have a safe voyage. Finally, Engine Room is mounted switchboard and this is used to ship propulsion system. Therefore the purpose of this paper is for suggesting optimized standard to apply to marine environment through analyzing electromagnetic wave environment in ship. For this, we were measured EMF in Hanbada ship in Korea Maritime and Ocean University and we compared and analyzed to measured values in Korea standards and international standards. Consequently, Engine Room of ship for the identified that there are limits to apply. The proposed results of this research will be expected to utilize for establishing standard a plan for EMF in ship.

  • This paper suggests a temperature guidance for requirements which must be addressed in the preparation of specifications for military equipment used in land applications in the Korean peninsula. In general, the equipment should be designed to operate during all but a certain small percentage of the time. Daegu and Yangpyeong are the hottest and coldest regions by month, respectively, based on surface weather observations over 132 regions from 1904 to 2014. The 1-percent high and low temperatures for land environment in the South Korea are $38.7^{\circ}C$, and -$29.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. This paper also presents the temperature values occurring for specified frequencies of occurrence during the most severe month. Diurnal cycles associated with the hottest and coldest top one-percent temperatures, including associated solar radiation, relative humidity, and wind-speed are provided.

  • This paper suggests a temperature guidance which must be addressed in the preparation of specifications for military equipment used in ocean/coastal environment of the Korean peninsula. It would often be costly to design materiel to operate under the most extreme environmental conditions ever recorded. Therefore, military planners usually accept equipments designed to operate under environmental stresses for all the time except a certain small percentage of the time. In this study, an 1-percent frequency of occurrence is recommended. Pohang and Shineiju are chosen to represent the hottest and coldest regions, respectively, based on surface weather observations among 28 costal regions from 1904 to 2015. The 1st and 99th percentile temperatures for Pohang and Shineiju are $37.7^{\circ}C$ and $-23.7^{\circ}C$, respectively. Diurnal cycles, including solar radiation, relative humidity and wind-speed are also provided.

  • It is necessary to establish a marine environment management system in Korea for hazardous noxious substances (HNS) effluent from marine industrial facilities because the Marine Environment Management Act primarily focuses on pollution control from vessels and offshore man-made structures. In this study, we investigated the effluent guidelines of foreign cases focusing on the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), which provides detailed information on the action levels and establishing principles for the industrial wastewater discharge of HNS. Based on the review, we also considered appropriate options for establishing new guidelines for Korea.

  • The sediment makes up the sea floor and plays an important role as a habitats for living things in the sea. However, pollution of coastal sediment due to internal and external factors such as inflow of contaminants from land and self-pollution becoming more serious, the needs for management of sediment that play an important role in ecology, is increasing. In particular, the review and evaluation of the effects of sediment in marine development projects including reclamation and dredging, have significance in terms of proactive protection and management of surrounding ecosystems. This study proposed the improvement measures for marine sediment management standards on the sea area utilization consultation for the development of public water. For the purpose, The evaluation and management standards of domestic and overseas marine sediments were reviewed and compared. The sediment environment guidelines under the Marine Environment Management Act of Korea were reviewed. Accordingly, the cases of Canada and NOAA, which have various evaluation standards consist of comprehensive factors, were analyzed. For analysis of operational cases, the port and fishing port development projects for the last five years (2016-2020) that are considered to have the greatest impact on sediments among the sea area use consultations were also reviewed. Finally, this study suggested that the assessment factors for ecological hazards and potential human risks should be considered in the sediment environmental standards in the sea area utilization consultation system.

  • This study aims to propose basic data for improvements that can actively respond to climate change in the Green Building Certifications that came into effect in March 2013, including the analysis of evaluation criteria and applications. In response to climate change, Green Building Certifications in developed countries such as BREEAM(UK), LEED(USA), DGNB(Germany), and CASBEE(Japan), have been extended to the neighborhood unit or city levels, i.e., BREEAM Communities, LEED Neighborhood Development, DGNB Stadtquartiere, CASBEE Urban Development. On the other hand, for the Green Building Certifications in Korea, some criteria such as indoor environment and energy have been given more emphasis than others such as external environment(land use, traffic, ecological environment). In addition, results from the analysis of the evaluation scores on the external environment of 79 housing complexes show that the score on the indoor environment and energy determines the evaluation grade, whereas the score on the external environment is less weighted and has less impact. Therefore, the new evaluation system for the Green Building Certifications responding to climate change should be extended from building level to urban district levels.

  • To ensure the safety of products containing omega-3 fatty acids, twenty fish and algae oil omega-3 products available in a Gyeonggi Province, South Korea market were analyzed for eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) content, as well as for oxidative status. Of the tested products, 90% complied with the CODEX/FAO fish oil standards on a p-anisidine value (p-AV) limit of 20, and 80% complied with the CODEX/FAO fish oil standards on the TOTOX limit of 26, respectively. Fully 100% of the products complied with EPA/DHA content levels. In addition, 90% of the tested products met with a peroxide value (PV) limit of 10 meq/kg while 95% of products were within the a p-AV limit of 30. Also, 95% of the products had a calculated TOTOX value of 50, which is lower than the stringent limits used by the European and British Pharmacopeia and Australian authorities.
