New BLU Sheet with Linear Arrays of Deformed Bar Prism for Direct Back Light Unit (직하형 Back Light Unit에 사용하는 변형 막대프리즘의 1차원 배열로 구성한 새로운 BLU 필름)

  • A new sheet of back light unit(BLU) to reduce the number of sheets and enhance the optical performances of direct back light unit(BLU) in a liquid crystal display is proposed and designed. In order to improve the straightness and spatial uniformity of brightness of the BLU, we design the new sheet with linear arrays of complicated bar prism by using the fusion of cylindrical lens and bar prism. Then, we investigate and analyze various optical performances of a BLU including the new sheet through an illumination optical system design program. From these results, we determine the optimum geometrical structure of the sheet. Under the optimum condition, the luminance efficiency and spatial uniformity of luminance of the BLU are 53.5% and 83.5% respectively. And the vertical and horizontal widths of the angular luminance distribution are $90^{\circ}$ and $112.5^{\circ}$ respectively. Finally we have fabricated a new BLU sheet according to this design shape by using an ordinary resins.

A Study on the Sensing Part of Integrated-Optic Electric Field Sensor Utilizing Ti:LiNbO3 Asymmetric Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and Segmented Electrode Structure (Ti:LiNbO3 비대칭 Mach-Zehnder 간섭기와 분할 전극구조를 이용한 집적광학 전계센서의 감지부에 관한 연구)

  • Integrated-optic asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer at $1.3{\mu}m$ wavelength and segmented electrode structure were designed and fabricated as a sensing part for the electric-field measurement system. The device was simulated based on the BPM software and fabricated utilizing Ti-diffused $LiNbO_3$ channel optical waveguides and lumped-type electrodes. Almost half-maximum power transmission was observed for asymmetric interferometers with ${\pi}/2$ intrinsic phase difference. Expected experimental measurements were observed for 1KHz electrical signal bandwidth.

  • The potassium lithium niobate $K_3$$Li_2$$Nb_5$$O_{15}$ single crystals were growing in $K_x$$Li_{1-x}$$NbO_3$ (x = 0.4~0.6) chemical formular by the Czorchralski method. Crystal growth is studied in two orientations with growth along a-axis and c-axis. We have subjected this crystal to x-ray diffraction studies and found that they are single-crystalline and belong to tetragonal system with the lattice parameters a = b = 12.577 $\AA$ and c = 3.997$\AA$. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant was measured in the region of the phase transition. Curie temperature and diffuseness of phase transition are influenced by composition concentration. The composition and cation distribution of ferroelectric TB-type niobate crystals has a strong influence on the ferroelectric properties. Growth condition, optical transmittance, etching pattern and dielectric properties are presented and discussed.

Study on the Current Spreading Effect of Blue GaN/InGaN LED using 3-Dimensional Circuit Modeling (3차원의 회로 모델링을 이용한 청색 GaN/InGaN LED의 전류 확산 효과에 관한 연구)

  • A new and simple method of 3-dimensional circuit modeling and analysis is proposed and verified experimentally for the first time by determining 3-dimensional current flow and 2-dimensional light distribution in blue InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well (MQW) light emitting diode (LED) devices. Circuit parameters of the LED consist of the resistance of the metallic film and epitaxial layer, and the intrinsic diode which represents the active region emitting the light. The circuit parameters are extracted from the transmission line model (TLM) and current-voltage relation. We applied the >> proposed method and extracted circuit parameters to obtain the light emission pattern in a top-surface emitting-type LED. The current spreading effect is analyzed theoretically and quantitatively with a variation of the resistance of metallic and epitaxial layers. The emitting-light distribution of the fabricated blue LED showed a good agreement with the analyzed result, which shows the dark emission intensity at the corner of the p-electrode.

Co-sputtering법으로 제작된 화합물 반도체 박막형 태양전지에서 $CuInSe_2$(CIS) 광흡수층의 열처리 효과

  • 현재 화석연료의 부족으로 인한 에너지 수급의 불균형, 자연환경의 파괴로 인해 대체에너지 개발이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 태양전지에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 기존 결정형 실리콘 태양전지와 비교해 화합물 반도체를 기반으로 한 박막형 태양전지는 친환경적인 제품이면서 제조원가를 절감시킬 수 있고, 반영구적인 수명 및 값싼 기판을 활용할 수 있는 장점으로 인해 활발한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 실험에서는 Co-sputtering법으로 제작된 $CuInSe_2$(CIS)를 광활성층으로 한 박막형 태양전지에서 실온 ${\sim}550^{\circ}C$의 다양한 온도에서 후열 처리된 CIS 박막들의 전기적, 구조적, 광학적인 특성들을 분석하였다. 제작된 박막들 가운데 Hall Effect 측정결과 $550^{\circ}C$에서 후열 처리된 박막이 가장 높은 1.227E+22(/$cm^3$)의 캐리어 농도와 1.581(cm/$V{\cdot}s$)의 홀 이동도를 가지며, 3.092E-4(${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$)의 가장 낮은 비저항 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. EFM 측정결과 열처리 하지 않은 박막에 비해 후열처리된 CIS 박막의 전도성이 전체적으로 높아졌다. 특히, $550^{\circ}C$에서 후열 처리된 박막의 표면은 전체적으로 전기 전도성이 높은 결정립들이 골고루 분포하며 가장 높은 표면 포텐셜 에너지 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 박막들의 구조적 특성을 분석하기 위해 SEM과 XRD를 측정한 결과, $350^{\circ}C$에서 후열 처리된 박막들은 열처리 되지 않은 박막과 비교해 표면형상 변화가 일어났으며, $550^{\circ}C$에서 후열 처리된 CIS 박막들은 $CuInSe_2$(112) 방향이 향상된 chalcopyrite-like 구조를 가지면서 박막 밀도가 높고 결정립의 크기가 증가된 것을 확인하였다. 이는 박막 성장시 기판온도의 상승으로 CIS 박막 내에서 셀레늄의 확산과 상호작용으로 3원 화합물이 재결정화되어 구조적인 특성향상에 기여하였기 때문이다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 CIS 광활성층에서 후열 처리의 효과들 뿐만아니라 박막 증착시 co-sputtering법을 이용함으로써 증착시간의 감소 및 대면적화와 대량생산으로도 적용 가능함을 제시하고자 한다.

A Study on Soot Formation in Premixed Constant-Volume Combustion at High Pressures (高壓下의 定積 豫混合氣燃燒에 있어서 煤煙생成에 關한 硏究)

  • The effect of pressure on soot formation in premixed propane-air combustion is investigated at high pressures over the pressure range of 1 to 5 MPa by using a specially designed constant volume combustion bomb. The combustiom chamber of disk type with eight spark plugs located on the circumference at an interval of 45deg is 100mm in diameter by 14mm thick. The end gases are compressed to high pressures by the eight converging flames. The soot volume fraction in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by the in-situ laser extinction technique, and the burnt gas temperature during the same period is measured by the two-color method. It is found that the soot yield rises with 50 to 100% for the respective equivalence ratio range of 1.9-2.2 at an interval of 0.1 when the combustion pressure is increased from 1 to 5 MPa, and that the turbulent flames decrease in the soot yield as compared with the laminar flames because the burnt gas temperatures increase with the drop of heat loss.

Analysis of Soot Particle Morphology Using Rayleigh Debye Gans Scattering Theory (RDG 산란 이론을 이용한 그을음 탄소 입자의 형상 분석)

  • Soot particles generated by fossil fuel combustion normally have fractal morphology with aggregates consisting of small spherical particles. Thus, Rayleigh or Mie elastic light scattering theory is not feasible for determining the fractal properties of soot aggregates. This paper describes a detailed process for applying Rayleigh-Debye Gans (RDG) scattering theory to effectively extract the morphological properties of any nano-scale particles. The fractal geometry of soot aggregates produced from an isooctane diffusion flame was observed using ex situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) after thermophoretic sampling. RDG scattering theory was then used to analyze their fractal morphology, and various properties were calculated, such as the diameter of individual soot particles, number density, and volume fraction. The results show indiscernible changes during the soot growth process, but a distinct decreasing trend was observed in the soot oxidation process. The fractal dimension of the soot aggregates was determined to be around 1.82, which is in good agreement with that produced for other types of fuel. Thus, it can be concluded that the value of the fractal dimension is independent of the fuel type.

2×2Ti:LiNbO3 Integrated Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers utilizing Strain-Optic Effect (스트레인광학효과를 이용한 2×2Ti:LiNbO3 삽입/분기 집적광학 멀티플렉서)

  • Polarization-independent $Ti:LiNbO_3\;2{\times}2$ optical add/drop multiplexer for the 1550nm wavelength region is fabricated. The device consists of two input waveguides, two polarization beam splitters. two polarization conversion/electrooptic tuning waveguide sections, and two output waveguides. The single mode channel waveguides for both TE and TM polarizations are fabricated on a x-cut $Ti:LiNbO_3$substrate by Ti diffusion. Spectral section is based on phase-matched polarization conversion due to shear strain induced by a thick $SiO_2$ grating overlay film. An applied voltage tunes the device by changing the waveguide birefringence, hence the optical wavelength at which most efficient polarization conversion occurs. Tuning rate of 0.094nm/V with a maximum range of 17nm has been obtained. The nearest side-lobe is about 8.2dB. The FWHM is 3.72nm.

Understanding Interfacial Charge Transfer Nonlinearly Boosted by Localized States Coupling in Organic Transistors (유기트랜지스터 내부 편재화 준위간 커플링에 의한 계면 전하이동의 비선형적 가속화 현상의 이해)

  • Understanding charge transfer across the interface between organic semiconductor and gate insulator gives insight into the development of high-performance organic memory as well as highly stable organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). In this work, we firstly unveil a novel interfacial charge transfer mechanism, in which hole transfer from organic semiconductor to polymer insulator was nonlinearly boosted by localized states coupling. For this, OFETs based on rubrene single crystal semiconductor and Mylar gate insulator were fabricated via vacuum lamination, which allows stable repetition of lamination and delamination between semiconductor and gate insulator. The surfaces of rubrene single crystal and Mylar film were selectively degraded by photo-induced oxygen diffusion and UV-ozone treatment, respectively. Consequently, we found that the interfacial charge transfer and resultant bias-stress effect were nonlinearly boosted by coupling between localized states in rubrene and Mylar. In particular, the small number of localized states in rubrene single crystal provided fluent pathway for interfacial charge transport.

A Comparative Study on Machine Learning Models for Red Tide Detection (적조 탐지를 위한 기계학습 모델 비교 연구)

  • Red tide, defined as the major reproduction of harmful birds, has the characteristics of being generated and diffused in a wide area. This has limitations in detection only with the existing investigation method. Therefore, in this study, red tide was detected using a remote sensing technique. In addition, it was intended to increase the accuracy of detection by using optical characteristics, not just the concentration of chlorophyll. Red tide mainly occurs on the southern coast where sea signals are complex, and the main red tide control species on the southern coast is Cochlodinium polykirkoides. Therefore, it was intended to secure objectivity by reflecting features that could not be found depending on the researcher's observation and experience, not limited to visual judgment using machine learning techniques. In this study, support background machines and random forest were used among machine learning models, and as a result of calculating accuracy as performance evaluation indicators of the two models, the accuracy was 85.7% and 80.2%, respectively.
