As of many organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls are ubiquitous organic contaminants, which can be found in the most environmental matrices. Their toxic effects include endocrinedisrupting activity. Most researches with these toxicants performed with mixtures of congeners, namely Aroclor and related study has been done in complex environmental matrix, rather than single biosystems or pure congeners. 5 congeners were synthesized and their fates in pure microbial culture (Aspergillus niger) were determined in this study. Among biphenyl and synthetic congeners, biphenyl, PCB-1 (2-chlorobiphenyl), and PCB-3 (4-chlorobiphenyl) were rapidly transformed to hydrophilic metabolites, followed by PCB-38 (3,4,5-trichlorobiphenyl), while the degradation of PCB-126 (3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl) was not observed. The amounts of transformation for biphenyl, PCB-1, PCB-3, and PCB-38 were 65, 38, 52, and 2% respectively. The major metabolites of the above congeners were identified as mono- and di-hydroxy biphenyls, which are known to give adverse endocrinological effects.

Recycling process of iron should be developed for efficient recovery of neodymium(Nd), rare metal, from acid-leaching solution of neodymium magnet. In this study, $FeCl_3$ solution as iron source was used for synthesis of iron nanoparticle with the condition of various factors, etc, reductant, surfactant. $Na_4O_7P_2$ and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) as surfactants, $NaBH_4$ as reductant, and palladium chloride($PdCl_2$) as a nucleation seed were used. Iron powder was analyzed with instruments of XRD, SEM and PSA for measuring shape and size. Iron nanoparticles were made at the ratio of 1 : 5(Fe (III) : $NaBH_4$) after 30 min of reduction time. Size and shape of iron particles synthesized were round-form and 50 nm ~ 100 nm size. Zeta-potential of iron at the 100 mg/L of $Na_4O_7P_2$ was negative value, which is good for dispersion of metal particle. When $Na_4O_7P_2$(100 mg/L), PVP($FeCl_3$ : PVP = 1 : 4, w/w) and Pd($FeCl_3$ : $PdCl_2$ = 1 : 0.001, w/w) were used, iron nanoparticles which are round-shape, well-dispersed, near 100 nm-sized can be made.
In heavily industrialized areas, soil sites are contaminated with high concentrations of heavy metals. These pollutants are highly accumulated to the human body through the food web and cause serious diseases. To remove heavy metals from the soil, a potential strategy is the environmental friendly and cost effective phytoremediation. For the enhancement of remediation efficiency, the symbiotic interaction between the plant and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) has been attended. In this review, the interaction of the plant and PGPR in the heavy metal-contaminated soil has been reviewed. The physicochemical and biological characteristics of the rhlzosphere can influence directly or indirectly on the biomass, activity and population structure of the rhizobacteria. The root exudates are offered to the soil microbes as useful carbon sources and growth factors, so the growth and metabolism of rhizobacteria can be promoted. PGPR have many roles to lower the level of growth-inhibiting stress ethylene within the plant, and also to provide iron and phosphorus from the soil to plant, and to produce phytohormone such as indole acetic acid. The plant with PGPR can grow better in the heavy metal contaminated soil. Therefore higher efficiency of the phytoremediation will be expected by the application of the PGPR.
Lipases are well known as the enzymes which catalyze the hydrolysis of ester bonds combining aliphatic chains and glycerol on mono-, di- and triglycerides. Their reactions are characterized by be-ing heterogeneous and catalyzing the water-insoluble substrates. This property has been one of the Hurdles which delayed the application of lipases in fats and oils industry, However, with the development of biological reaction system of which organic solvent is introduced in part or whole as the reaction media, enzymatic manipulation of fats and oils is attracting increasing attention from the academic and industrial sectors. Trials in two-phase system and reversed micellar system to produce fatty acids through enzymatic hydrolysis of triglycerides preyed to be efficient in respect to volumetric productivity, fat hydrolysis rate, product separation, etc. In organic solvent system lipases have been found to have the ability to catalyze aminolysis, transesterification, esterification, thiotransesterification and oximolysis that are virtually impossible to catalyze in water. The organic solvent system is being extensively used in interesterifying glycerides to produce a fat with the modified physical and chemical nature.
Twenty six derivatives of bis-aromatic ${\alpha},{\beta}$-unsaturated ketones as substrate(S) were synthesized and their fungicidal activities in vivo against rice blast(Pyricularia oryzae), tomato leaf blight(Phytophtora infestans) and barley powdery mildew(Erysiphe graminis) were examined. The quantitative structure-activity relationship(QSAR) between the fungicidal activities($pI_{50}$) and a physicochemical parameters of substitued($R_{2}$) phenyl backbone group in 2-thienyl and 2-furyl substituents were analyzed with regression equations. The activities of substituted($R_{2}$) phenyl backbone in 2-thienyl substituents, $1{\sim}10$ would depend largely on the resonance(R>0), molecular refractivity($M_{R}<0$) and optimal length of substituent(($L_{1})opt.=5.50{\AA}$). Whereas, in case of 2-furyl substituents, $10{\sim}26$ optimal molar attraction constant ($F_{opt}=0.49{\sim}l.11$), optimal steric($Es_{opt}=1.78$) constant and indicator variables(Io & Ip) for position of substituents. The fungicidal activity relationship of 2-thienyl substituents against Pyricularia oryzae and Phytophtora infestans have been a reciprocal proportioned.
The purpose of this research is to develop thin film materials and fabrication process for efficient $TiO_2$/CdTe solar cells. In this work photocatalyst titanium dioxide was prepared by sol-gel procedure according to reaction condition, the mole ratio of $H_2O$/TTIP, pH of solution and aging condition of powder. The prepared titanium dioxide was thermally treated from 300 to $750^{\circ}C$. Maximum intensity of anatase phase of titanium dioxide was achieved by calcination at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. And it was mixture of anatase and rutile phase when temperature of calcination was $750^{\circ}C$. It has been known that the properties of synthesized titanium dioxide according to aging time and calcination temperature was converted to anatase phase crystal on increasing of aging time. Also the current density has been increased with aging time and temperature, the efficiency has been increased with because of reason on above results. The formation of chemical bonding on oxygen and cadmium telluride under oxygen circumstances had been observed, and oxygen of thin film surface on cadmium telluride had been decreased with the treatment of chromate and hydrazine. As results had been shown that the energy conversion efficiency of cadmium telluride use by rapidly treatmented heat at the condition of $550^{\circ}C$ under air circumstance got 12.0%, 6.0% values according to $0.07cm^2$, $1.0cm^2$ surface area, respectively.
Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) assumes the relatedness between physical property and biological activity. However, activity data measured at single concentration such as percent activity have not been used extensively for modeling purpose. This probably comes from the fact that these values are qualitative instead of quantitative. To utilize percent activity data for molecular modeling, we classified the whole data into two classes. One class represents the active while the other signifies the inactive. The percent activity data of ${\beta}$-Ketoacetoanilides measured for TLB (Tomato Late Blight) were investigated. CoMFA (Comparative Molecular Field Analysis) was used as a discriminant function. Using CoMFA provides 3D (three dimensional) information, which is crucial for chemical insight. It can also serve as a predictive model. The resultant model classified the given data correctly (98%). When LOO (leave-one-out) crossvalidation procedure was applied, the classification accuracy was 69%. Therefore two class approximation of percent activity data with CoMFA can be utilized to understand the relationship between chemical structure and biological activity and design subsequent chemical analogs.
The search for natural antioxidants as alternatives to synthetic products is growing. Microalgae have emerged as a source of natural antioxidants with significant and diverse health-promoting properties. In this study, the effects of hot-water extraction conditions on total polyphenol compounds (TPC) production were investigated for lipid extracted microalgae (LEA). In order to enhance the polyphenol productivity, the extraction variables including solvents, temperature, time and ethanol concentration were optimized. The results showed hot-water extraction provided a higher extraction efficiency than the organic solvents and extraction at high temperatures showed a better extraction efficiency. While hot-water extract showed a higher extraction efficiency compared to 98% ethanol extraction, the mixture of water and ethanol (40:60 v/v) showed the highest production of polyphenols. The maximum polyphenols of 3.35 mg GAE (gallic acid equivalent)/g DM were obtained at the optimized extraction time of 10 min, $100^{\circ}C$ and 40% ethanol, respectively. Although Tetraselmis KCTC 12236BP was preprocessed by hexane to remove lipid for bio-diesel production, the results showed LEA contains relatively high level of polyphenols compared to untreated microalgae which can be used in the production of value-added materials. The predictions obtained from the developed Peleg's model were compared with the experimental data under the same operating conditions. The predicted and experimental data were consistent, indicating the reliability of the model.
$TiO_2-SnO_2$ nanoparticles with an average diameter of 3~5 nm were synthesized by hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) and tin chloride to depress the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. Organic-inorganic hybrid coating solutions were prepared by reacting the $TiO_2-SnO_2$ nanoparticles with 3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) by the sol-gel method. The hard coating films with high refractive index were obtained by curing thermally at $120^{\circ}C$ after spin-coating the coating solutions on the polycarbonate (PC) sheets. The coating films from $TiO_2-SnO_2$ nanoparticles showed an improved pencil hardness of 3H compared to 2H of the coating films from $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. Besides, the refractive index of the coating films from $TiO_2-SnO_2$ nanoparticles enhanced from 1.543 to 1.623 at 633 nm as the Sn/Ti molar ratio increased from 0 to 0.5.

This study is to optimize the enzyme(lipase) activity for biodiesel production. The ion-exchanged non-woven fabrics(EtA, DEA-EtA non-woven fabric) containing ethanolamine, diethylamine groups are used by radiation induced grafted polymerization onto a non-woven fabric for more effective immobilization of lipase. Since the porous hollow fiber membranes are showed the low throughputibehe non-woven fabric membranes are used for biodiesel production. The physical charateristics of enzyme immobilized and the enzyme activity to EtA and DEA-EtA non-woven fabrics are studied. The EtA non-woven fabrics are quite similar to DEA-EtA non-woven fabric for the amount of enzyme immobilized(EtA non-woven fabric:15.69 mg/g, DEA-EtA non-woven fabric:14.45 mg/g) but DEA-EtA non-woven fabrics have shown the lower permeabiliquite the organic solvent than the EtA non-woven fabrics(EtA non-woven fabric:$3.50mol/h{\cdot}kg$, DEA-EtA non-woven fabric:$0.38mol/h{\cdot}kg$). Optimum characteristics of ehe non-woven fabric membranes and the limilaractivity are also investigated for the effective biodiesel production.
