Computer simulation tools mainly used for polymer materials and polymeric membranes are divided into various fields depending on the size of the object to be simulated and the time to be simulated. The computer simulations introduced in this review are classified into three categories: Quantum mechanics (QM), molecular dynamics (MD), and mesoscale modeling, which are mainly used in computational material chemistry. The computer simulation used in polymer research has different research target for each kind of computational simulation. Quantum mechanics deals with microscopic phenomena such as molecules, atoms, and electrons to study small-sized phenomena, molecular dynamics calculates the movement of atoms and molecules calculated by Newton's equation of motion when a potential or force of is given, and mesoscale simulation is a study to determine macroscopically by reducing the computation time with large molecules by forming beads by grouping atoms together. In this review, various computer simulation programs mainly used for polymers and polymeric membranes divided into the three types classified above will be introduced according to each feature and field of use.
This study was attempted to use as basic data for developing a nursing intervention program suitable for terminal cancer patients by analyzing the unmet needs of advanced cancer patients receiving palliative chemotherapy and identifying the influencing factors. The subject of the study consisted of 71 patients with advanced cancer who were admitted to a university hospital and received palliative chemotherapy, and the research tool used CNAT (Comprehensive Needs Assessment tool in Cancer) developed by Shin et al., and data analysis was an independent sample. It was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, the medical staff's area was the highest at 2.34 ± 0.63 out of 4 points, followed by psychological problems (2.09 ± 0.53) and information education (1.69 ± 0.45). Factors influencing unmet needs include educational background (β=.207, p=.047), thoughts on death (β=-.269, p=.018), diagnosis (β=-.283, p=. 013). Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to consider the needs of the medical staff in advanced cancer patients, provide psychological support, and consider ways to meet the needs according to academic background and diagnosis.

The characteristics of dental treatment makes the dental staff frequently contact with patient directly. Also the daily use of high-handpieces, sharp instruments, and needles often causes bleeding on oral cavity. Therefore, the risk of cross transmission grows up. The pathogen from dental practice could spread on not only the practice itself but also the dental laboratory with contaminated impressions and prosthesis. Dental clinic staffs (dentists, dental hygienists and dental technicians) should recognize all the patients have a possibility of cross contamination, and try to prevent the transmission of infection by proper infection control. In this study, we review the articles about disinfection methods and chemical infection agents used for dental impressions, and try to figure out the suitable and effective infection control system of dental impressions.
Inquiry-based experiments provide opportunities to understand scientific knowledge and acquire nature of science. In this study, the difficulties which pre-service teachers experienced in inquiry-based experiment class were investigated and analyzed. Twenty-two pre-service teachers attended course designed as ‘ill-structured inquiry’ for 13 weeks, and researchers investigated their difficulties by questionnaires and interview. They showed difficulties mostly in designing experiment and interpretation and also in understanding inquiry purpose, lack of prior knowledge, confidence in inquiry performance, and understanding of experimental instruments and facilities. As a result, it is necessary to provide opportunities to engage in inquiries and environments to properly instruct pre-service teachers the inquiry ability in college of education.
The separation and purification of succinate are necessary for the succinic acid production by a fermentation process. Among the purification processes, desalination of succinate is inevitable. In this work, electrodialysis was selected as a desalination method and its operating parameters affecting the degree of desalination and energy consumption were examined. Commercialized electrodialysis apparatus was used in this work and its optimum operating parameters were determined by using design of experiment (DOE) method. Voltage, concentration of succinate, and pH were selected as main parameters. Among them, voltage seemed to be the most important one. The final conversion of succinate to succinic acid was calculated when the operating parameters were optimized. Finally, the effect of impurities, such as corn steep oil, yeast extract, and dextrose on the electrodialysis efficiency was also studied.

Purpose of this study is to investigate on the attitude toward science of science gifted and talented(G/T) middle school students. The inventory instrument used for study was a revision of TOSRA which consisted of six domains. Subjects were 131 students who had entered into Center for Science G/T Education, Seoul National University in 1999. This center is composed of five divisions: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. There was no difference between genders totally, but the attitude level of male was higher than that of female in 'career interest in science' domain. Compared among domains, while the attitude score toward leisure interest in science' was the highest, 'normality of scientist' was the lowest. Whereas the attitude level was no difference among divisions except chemistry, that of chemistry division was higher than mathematics in 'adoption of scientific attitudes' domain. Thus, it is needed to provide social and national encouragement for superior science G/T students as well as to develope special programs for them so as to achieve their dreams and to contribute to scientific development of nations.
Rare earth elements (REEs) have been used as one of power tracers for understanding geological and environmental changes due to their similar physico-chemical properties. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of rare earth elements in atmospheric particulates(PM2.5) collected in Beijing and Gwangju during January 2018. The total concentrations of REEs in the Beijing samples were about 16X higher than those in Gwangju samples, and both samples are enriched in light REE than heavy REE, up to 8-10 times. The Post Archean Australian Shale (PAAS)-normalized pattern showed that both samples are enriched in Eu, Tb, and Er, and displayed positive Eu but negative Ce anomalies. The elemental correlations indicate that both samples originated from China desert and Loess plateau as well as cities surrounding Beijing. This study suggests that REEs in PM2.5 can be used as a powerful proxy of revealing the difference between China and Korea, and provide basic information on the source and transport of PM2.5.
It has been previously reported that the carboxyl terminal residues 276 and 277 of ${\alpha}$-tropomyosin are important for actin affinity. In order to investigate actin affinities of these two residues of skeletal (HA) and smooth (QT) muscle ${\alpha}$-tropomyosins, a series of mutant tropomyosins were constructed in which residues at either 276 or 277 were individually replaced with a cysteine residue for chemical modification. These mutants were overexpressed in E. coli as unacetylated and Ala-Ser (AS) dipeptide fusion forms. While actin affinities of unacetylated tropomyosins were considerably low, those of AS/TMs were remarkably higher than those of corresponding unacetylated tropomyosins. However, actin affinities of AS/TM24 (QC) and AS/TM29 (HC) were dramatically lower than those of other AS/TMs and were close to those of unacetylated tropomyosins. In addition, actin affinities of unacetylated TM24 (QC) and TM29 (HC) failed to be restored in the presence of troponin, unlike unacetylated TM10 (HA) and TM23 (CA). These results indicated that the presence of a cysteine residue at 277 caused a drastic decrease in actin affinity, and also that the residue 277 is important for actin affinity of ${\alpha}$-tropomyosin. Since TM23 (CA) showed high actin affinity, it may serve as a valuable tool for chemical modification studies for investigating the interaction of the carboxyl terminal residues of ${\alpha}$-tropomyosin with actin and/or troponin.
This study was carried out to obtain fundamental data such as peeling efficiency and quality of potatoes and sweet potatoes peeled by hand, machine and alkali(NaOH). The weight loss by peeling was influenced by peeling methods. Weight losses by rotational brushing-type peeler showed the lowest value, 7.9% in potato, and 7.3% in sweet potato. Any significant differences in moisture content were not found in potatoes and sweet potatoes by peeling methods. The pH of potatoes and sweet potatoes just after peeling were 5.8-6.8 and 6.23-6.63, and decreased somewhat until 3 hrs after peeling. Hardness of potatoes and sweet potatoes peeled by hand with fruit knife were better than that of others. Depending upon the peeling method used the color and color differences undergo some changes in their color and browning. Color difference value of peeled potatoes by hand with a technical tools, and by mechanical peeler such as rotational cutting-type peeler and rotational brushing-type peeler showed just slightly. In particular, changes of rotor differences value of potatoes and sweet potatoes peeled by dipping with 10% NaOH solution at $100^{\circ}C$ was the highest in the samples peeled by NaOH.
