Stack Effect Mitigation Methods in Exit Route of High-rise Building (고층 건축물 피난경로의 연돌효과 저감 방안)

  • Length of staircase get longer and evacuation load get heavier in proportion to the building height. Therefore evacuation time could be considered proportional to square of building height. While smoke spreads vertically so rapidly, evacuation speed is too slow, therefore the reasonable measure for the safe of egress route is urgent. Existing pressurizing smoke control system of vertical exit route is seriously limited in function under the stack effect in winter. Stack effect in winter could be overcome with the methods of opening the staircase outward or letting airflow be free between staircase and outside.

  • There are currently various domestic high-rise construction projects underway. Such projects may maximize the economic impact, and yield other benefits, however, there is also a possibility of fire, terrorism, and other disasters that one may not even imagine. This study of high-rise structures' damage reduction measures the fire-fighting ability of the fire fighters at the scene of an indoor emergency upon entry. In order to identify the practical limitations, the fire fighter entered from the 1st floor to reach the top 54th floor. 1.Time required to reach the top floor without the respirator 2.Time required as well as pressure consumption to reach the top floor with the respirator equipped was measured; based on the results, performable range of operations during a fire fighting activity were presented.

  • In recent years, the use of high-strength concrete has increased with increasing height and enlarging scale of the buildings However, it has been pointed out that the use of high-strength concrete is the most serious problem compared to ordinary concrete in terms of the spalling of concrete cross sections caused by fires. For this reason, fiber cocktail methods, which are made of polypropylene fibers, nylon fibers, etc., are mainly used to improve the fire resistance performance. However, the majority of research on high-strength concrete to which the fiber cocktail method was applied is mainly focused on the effect of reducing spalling, and few studies have investigated and analyzed the effect of micropores produced by melting PP fibers on the long-term durability of high-strength concrete after a fire. Therefore, in this study, the effect of micropores on the depth of carbonation was examined through carbonation tests and microstructure analysis, assuming high-strength concrete to which fiber-mixed construction method was applied, which caused fire damage.

  • HSC(High Strength Concrete) have superior properties well as improvement in durability compared with normal strength concrete. In spite of durability of HSC, explosive spalling of concrete is serious problem in structure safety. Therefore, Solving methods are required to control the explosive spalling. The properties of concrete are affected by changes of temperatures. Compressive strength and elasticity modulus were degraded depending on a rise of temperatures. Also, change in microstructure and dehydration of concrete subjected to high temperatures. This paper is concerned with change in microstructure and dehydration of the alumino silicate fire protection materials at high temperatures. The testing methods of fire protection materials in high temperature properties are make use of SEM, TG-DSC and XRD. From the experimental test results, influence of high temperatures on microstructure of alumino-silicate fire protection material was identified, including chemical dehydration of C-S-H and CH. The chemical dehydration of CH under various temperatures from to 450 to 600$^{\circ}$C has been measured using the TG-DSC. However, developed alumino silicate fire protection materials showed good stability in high Temperatures. Thus, the results indicate that it is possible to fireproof panels, fire protection of materials.

A Study on Setting Up National Railway Safety Target (국가철도안전목표 설정방안 연구)

  • According to the national railway safety plan 1 billion US$ have been invested in railway industry every year. As a result, railway accident rate has been reduce to half recent 6 years. Currently, Korea has 3 kinds of national railway safety target, which are accident fatalities, train accident rate, and passenger fatality per passenger kilometer. Increase of railway passengers and train operating companies force to set up new safety target. Current safety target cannot reflect train operator's safety activities because they include suicide and trespass related accidents, which are hard to be controlled by the operators. In order to reflect to the national railway safety plan, new safety targets are proposed in this study.

  • Activated carbon is a carbonaceous material mainly used as a gaseous or liquid adsorbent. As fire-related accidents occur consistently due to the accumulation of heat of adsorption and oxidation of volatile organic compounds, the explosive characteristics and thermal stability of powdered and granular activated carbon made from coal and coconut shells were evaluated. As a result of the particle size analysis, the powdered activated carbon was in the particle size range (0.4~3) ㎛, and thermal properties such as exothermic onset temperature and decomposition behavior were analyzed using a differential scanning calorimetry and a thermogravimetric analysis. As a result of the evaluation of the explosion hazards for dust, both coal-based and coconut-based powdered activated carbon are classified as St1 class with weak explosion, but this is a relative and does not mean that the explosion hazards is absolutely low. Therefore, it is necessary to establish countermeasures for reducing the damage.

  • This study is progressed function ratio, it's trued taste by an experiment to present data for human work light weight aggregate development that use clink ash progressed liquid limit, small success limit, wear loss in quantity, sand equivalent, sieve cutting examination. 80 : 20's match of function rain examination is 1.4, and that use rubble Goljae as ckink ash lightweight aggregate's capacity ratio increases by 1.0 increase of function rain many. Also, examination multiplied delicate flavor gradually according to increase of the mixing rate, and absorption coefficient increased. This is judged by phenomenon that appear by special quality upper clink ash of polystyrene bid and porosity's increase between lightweight aggregate. It is case that use aggregate of wear loss in quantity is 13.5 in sand equivalent and a wear loss in quantity experiment and although case that mix 20% increases by 14.4, this phenomenon by weak tissue of lightweight aggergate be judge. When it's as a these experiment, the statue prevention floor of a street improvement specifications is prescribing so that satisfy by sand equivalent 20, CBR 10. This is showed result that this satisfies in quality standard all in match experiment ago that see.

A Study on the Optimization of the Mix Proportions of High Strength Concrete Fire-Resistant Reinforcement Using Orthogonal Array Table (직교배열표를 이용한 고강도콘크리트 내화성능 보강재의 배합 최적화 연구)

  • The peculiarity pointed out for high strength concrete is the occurrence of spalling during a fire. Recently, there are many efforts such as development of all types of spalling reducing materials and other innovative materials in various fields. Need is now to examine the adequate mixing proportions of these materials. This study intended to derive experimentally and statistically mix proportions that can represent the basic quality requirements as well as the optimal effects on the fire-resistance for 4 types of functional materials that are metakaolin, waste tire chip, polypropylene fiber and steel fiber. Here, the tests were planned through an optimal test method using an orthogonal array table with 4 parameters and 3 levels. The statistical analysis adopted the response surface analysis method. Results verified mutual complementary contribution between the materials when using a combination of the functional materials selected as parameters for the strengthening of the fire-resistance of 80 MPa-class high strength concrete. Besides, the optimal conditions of the fire-resistance strengthening materials derived through response surface analysis were a volumetric replacement of silica fume by 80% of metakaolin, a volumetric replacement of fine aggregates by 3% of tire waste chip, and an addition of 0.2% of the whole volume by polypropylene fiber without mixing of steel fiber. In such cases, the basic characteristics as well as the fire-resistant characteristics of high strength concrete were also satisfied.

A Study on the Durability Performance of a Receptacle for CNG Vehicles (천연가스 차량용 리셉터클의 내구성능에 관한 연구)

  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses have been supplied since the year 2000 in order to resolve severe atmospheric pollution in metropolitan area and contributed on the improvement of urban atmospheric environment. However, it is indispensible to take an adequate measure to guarantee the safety of CNG vehicles because of the possibility of huge fire accident. A receptacle, connecting device between high pressure fuel supply tank and fuel line, plays an important role in CNG supply system. In recent, leakage of CNG from receptacles has been reported. So, the concern about the security and reliability of receptacles has been arisen. Therefore, a lot of efforts to prevent leakage are invested among researchers and the durability of this component should be guaranteed despite repeated operation. This research has performed durability tests of a CNG receptacle regarding the repeated usage, extreme chattering, and continuous full flow test. Although a receptacle used for CNG vehicle satisfies validation requirements in the test results, it has been found that failure in the function of leakage prevention in a receptacle could take place in the case of prolonged exposure to high supply pressure in common quick charging environment on site.
