A lake seismic survey was carried out to investigate possible geohazards for construction of the underground LPG storage at Namyang Lake. The proposed survey site has a land-lake combined geography and furthermore water depth of the lake is shallow. Therefore, various seismic methods such as marine single channel high resolution seismic reflection survey, sonobuoy refraction survey, land refraction survey and land-lake combined refraction survey were applied. Total survey amounts are 34 line-km of high resolution lake seismic survey, 14 lines of sonobuoy refraction survey, 890 m of land refraction survey and 8 lines of land-lake combined refraction survey. During the reflection survey, there were severe water reverberations from the lake bottom obscured subsurface profiling. These strong multiple events appeared in most of the survey area except the northern and southern area near the embankment where seems to be accumulated mainly mud dominated depositions. The sonobuoy refraction profiles also showed the same Phenomena as those of reflection survey. Meanwhile the results of the land-lake combined refraction survey showed relatively better qualities. However, the land refraction survey did not so due to low velocity soil layer and electrical noise. Summarized results from the lake seismic survey are that acoustic basement with relatively flat pattern appeared 30m below water level and showed three types of bedrock such as fresh, moderately weathered and weathered type. According to the results of the combined refraction survey, a velocity distribution pattern of the lake bottom shows three types of seismic velocity zone such as >4.5 km/s, 4.5-4.0km/s and <4.0km/s. The major fault lineament in the area showed NW-SE trend which was different from the Landsat image interpretation. A drilling was confirmed estimated faults by seismic survey.
This study was carried out to examine the effects of cornstarch-based absorbent polymer (CAP) on the growth of cool season turfgrasses in sand-based soil mixture. Kentucky bluegrass + perennial ryegrass mixtures seeded at May 18 in 2006 on sand-based soil mixture. Sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixtures were compared. Ground coverage of sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) treatments showed 50% at a month after seeding. But the coverage of sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ resulted in 36.7%. Mixing of CAP with sand was considered to be efficient method for increasing ground coverage as much as peat. Dry weight of turfgrass tiller at sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) were also significantly higher than sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ mixtures at a month after seeding. Soil water retention at the sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixing were lower than sand + peat (5%, v/v) and sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) during the dry periods. From the results, the mixing of CAP with sand is useful to increased ground coverage of kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass.
Recently, Korea brings to remarkable levels about industrialization, modernization, population and development of technology. Especially, the rapidly growing from this technology has increased the burden on existing industrial waste landfills. The purpose of this research is to existing knowledge base of landfill cover liner behavior during periods freeze/thaw. Although these tests have been invaluable in clarifying the problem of freeze/thaw, extending the results of such experimental studies to prototype landfills are questionable. For this investigation, the author utilized a large scale laboratory simulation allowing inclusion of the field depth of the cover systems, layered soil profiles, rainfall simulation, a cold climate and boundary conditions similar to those encountered in the landfill. And the soil materials used stabilized soils (mixed clays, cements, and minerals) instead of clays. The bottom liners are made up of drainage layer (30cm), stabilized layer (75cm), and leach collection layer (60cm). The stabilized layers are made up of supporting layer (45cm) and impermeable layer (30cm) - consisted of $P_A$ and $P_B$ layer.
Two solution to soil ratios, 2 : 1 and 5 : 1 were tested to determine the appropriate ratio in the sorption measurement off. sulfoxide for Wahiawa soil samples, 0-20 cm, 40-60 cm and 100-120 cm. and Salinas soil samples, 0-15cm and 115-130cm. One ${\mu}$ mol/L f.sulfoxide was used as an initial equilibration concentration. Sorption of f.sulfoxide at 5 : 1 ratio showed appropriate mixing, while sorption at 2 : 1 ratio indicated insufficient mixing during the various batch equilibration times (4, 12, 24 and 48 hours). For most samples the degree of sorption was about 20-50%, which falls in the desired range (20-80%) at the 5 : 1 ratio. An exception was with the low-sorptive Wahiawa subsoil in which the ranges were below 20%. Thus the 5 : 1 ratio can be used for f.sulfoxide sorption measurement. Four equilibration times (4, 12, 24 and 48 hours) and four concentrations(0.1, 1.0, 5.0 and $10{\mu}mol/L$) were used to determine the appropriate equilibration time for Wahiawa and Salinas soils. Sorption increased over all equilibration times, indicating no complete equilibrium within 48 hours. Apparent equilibrium was reached in 4 hours, and sorption increased slowly until 24 hours and faster thereafter, except for the Wahiawa soil, 100-120 cm. The recommended equilibration time is 24 hours, since it may eliminate the insufficient sorption and yet avoid undesirable transformation.
Acid sulfate soil (ASS) and potential acid sulfate soil (PASS) are distribution in worldwide and originate from sedimentary process, volcanic activity, or metamorphism and are problematic in agriculture and environmental due to their present and potential acidity developed by the oxidation. The PASS was defined as soil materials that had sulfidic layer more than 20 cm thick within 4 m of the soil profile and contained more than 0.15% of total-sulfur (T-S). A tentative interpretative soil classification system was proposed weak potential acid sulfate (T-S, 0.15-0.5%), moderate potential acid sulfate (T-S, 0.5-0.75%) and strong potential acid sulfate (T-S, more than 0.75%). PASS due to excess of pyrite over soil neutralizing capacity are formed. It provides no information on the kinetic rates of acid generation or neutralization; therefore, the test procedures used in acid base account (ABA) are referred to as static procedures. The net acid generation (NAG) test is a direct method to measure the ability of the sample to produce acid through sulfide oxidation and also provides and indication. The NAG test can evaluated easily whether the soils is PASS. The samples are mixed sandy loam and the PAS from the hydrothermal altered andesite (1:3, 1:8, 1:16, 1:20, 1:40, 1:80 and 1:200 ratios) in this study. We could find out that the NAG pH of the soil containing 0.75% of T-S was 2.5, and that of the soil has 0.15% of T-S was 3.8. NAG pH test can be proposed as soil classification criteria for the potential acid sulfate soils. The strong type has NAG pH of 2.5, the moderate one has NAG pH of 3.0, and the weak one has NAG pH of 3.5.

This study describes on the erosion control effects of the several grasses and its mixtures for the man-made slopes. The grasses used for this experiment include cool-season grasses such as Festuca rubra L. (Creeping redfescue), Poa pratensis L. (Kentucky bluegrass), Lolium perenne L. (Perenial ryegrass), Lolium multiflorum LAM. (Italian ryegrass), Festuca arundinacea Schrel. (Tall fescue), and warm-season grasses such as Eragrostis curvula Schrad. (Weeping lovegrass), Zoysia japonica Steud. (Zoysiass) and native plants (Artemisia princeps var. orientalis Hara, Lespedeza cuneata G. Don, Arundinella hirta var. ciliata K.) This study was conducted at Dan-kook University from April, 1988 to Octover, 1989. The results are summurized as follows; 1.Cool-season grasses covered the ground quickly in early stage, and weekened slowly during sumer season. Warm-season grasses and native-plants covered the ground slowly in early stage, but during summer season they grew vigorously, so outweighed cool season grasses. 2. The amount of aboveground growth of weeping locearass and underground growth of Artemisia prinoepts are quite differant from others. Since Arumdinella hirta has deep root system, it is thought to very useful protection of unstable for hrdro-seeding. Because cool-season grasses are useful for quick coverage, and native plants or warm-season grow well during summer season with the better compatability to weeds. 3.Mixture III(cool-season and warm-season grasses), mixtureIV(native spp. and Italian ruegrass), and mixtureV(native spp.) resulted in better control of erosion control on man-made slopes. Native spp. has equivallent capacity of erosion control compared to several foreign grasses.
The experiment was conducted to evaluate weeding effect and to inhibit tuberization of Eleocharis kuroguwai authority by single or systematic applications of several herbicides. E. kuroguwai was controlled above 90 percentage by pretilachlor and butachlor+bensulfuron application at 5-10 DAT(Days after transplanting) followed by bentazon at 50 DAT and weeded 88 percentage by mefenacet+bensulfuron application at 15 DAT. Tuberization inhibition rate of E. kuroguwai was higher at the application of butachlor+bensulfuron at 5 DAT followed by bentazon at 50 DAT than any other applications. The weight variation of E. kuroguwai tubers formed at 15-20cm soil stratum was larger than that at 10-15cm. Tuber of E. kuroguwai was hardly formed at top soil stratum (0-5cm) and deep soil (15-20cm) by the systematic application of bentazon at 50 DAT. Grain yield of rice from systematic application with bentazon at 50 DAT and mefenacet+bensulfuron at 10-15 DAT was similar to that of hand weeded plot.
The information of cut slope in Mt. Jang area, Busan is investigated in order to construct the Slope Management System in Urban Area. The slope inspection sheet is made to record the characteristics for cut slopes, and that is capable to be inputted slope information systematically. The cut slopes in Mt. Jang area are consisting of 69 slopes. Most of the cut slopes are constructed in cutting slope and retaining wall (CR). The cut slopes located in housing facilities are 46 slopes, and the slopes located in school facilities are 12 slopes. The traverse of cut slopes is mainly ranged from 50 m to 150 m, and the height is mainly ranged from 10 m to 20 m. The slopes combined with soil and rock are mostly distributed. The retaining wall was installed in the toe part of cut slope in order to increase the slope stability, and the additional reinforcement methods including the anchor, drainage, preventing rock fall, shotcrete and vegetation were installed at the toe part of cut slopes.
This research was conducted to determine the effect of interruption layer for capillary rise on the sand based growing media when growing Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) on soil reclamation and saline water irrigation. Growing media profile consists of three layers as top soil of 30 cm, 20 cm of the interruption layer for capillary rise and 10 cm of reclaimed paddy soil. Growing media profile was packed in 30 cm diameter column pots. The top soil was a mixture of sand dredged up from Lake Bhunam Tae Ahn, Korea and peat at the ratio of 95:5 by volume. Bottom part of column was covered with plastic net and the pots were soaked into 5 cm depth saline water reservoir with salinity $3-5\;dS\;m^{-1}$. Kentucky bluegrass was established by sod and irrigated using $2\;dS\;m^{-1}$ saline water ($5.7\;mm\;day^{-1}$) in 3 days interval. The results showed that the largest accumulation of salt in the spring with electrical conductivity in saturated extract (ECe) of $5.4\;dS\;m^{-1}$ and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) 34.0 in growing media without the interruption layer for capillary rise and ECe of $4.6\;dS\;m^{-1}$ and SAR 8.24 at growing media using gravel as the interruption layer for capillary rise material. The interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel and coarse sand reduced the accumulation of Na by 16% and 25%, ECe by 7% and 13% in the growing media. Visual quality of Kentucky bluegrass was higher in growing media with the interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel than no interruption layer by 8.3 compared to 7.9 in rates. The interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel and coarse sand enhanced the visual quality by 4.1 and 4.0%, root length by 50 and 38%, and root dry weight by 35 and 17% of Kentucky bluegrass, and reduced the accumulation of Na by 16% and 25%, ECe by 7% and 13% in the growing media.
