Effect of the ice pack treatment in the corrugated box for improving the storage quality of the oriental melon (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) at high temperature conditions during summer (여름철 고온 환경 조건에서 참외(Cucumis melo var. makuwa)의 저장 중 선도유지를 위한 아이스 팩 처리 포장 박스 적용 연구)

  • The effects of the ice pack and aluminum coated board in the corrugated boxes for maintaining the quality of fresh oriental melons (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) were investigated. The harvested oriental melons were stored at a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ for 21 days after placing them in the corrugated boxes treated with control, including ice pack and aluminum coated board. The treatment with the ice pack and aluminum coated board was identified to have maintained the relative low temperature in the corrugated box against the high temperature from the environment. For the storage study of the oriental melon, the treatments with the ice pack and aluminum coated board reduced the respiration rate, the development of external color, and total weight loss. All treatments were also effective in maintaining the firmness and decreasing the decay ratio of the oriental melon as compared to those that were controlled. However, the value of total soluble solids regarding the fruit was insignificantly affected by the ice pack treatment. The results indicated that the application of the ice pack and aluminum coated board in the corrugated box played an important role in maintaining the quality of oriental melons during storage. The combination with the ice pack and aluminum coated board had more effective values on the storage qualities for oriental melons than that with the ice pack only. Based on the results of this study, the ice pack and aluminum coated board were the useful treatments for reducing the loss of quality of the fresh oriental melons in high temperature storage conditions.

Influence of Preheating on Quality Changes of Fresh-cut Muskmelon (가공 전 열처리가 Fresh-cut Muskmelon의 품질변화에 미치는 영향)

  • Whole muskmelon was blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ water for inhibition decline of fresh-cut melon quality from direct heat treatment. The muskmelon, after storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, was processed to melon cylinders with 2 cm diameter. The changes of color, texture and the quality characteristics such as gas composition. soluble solid content, pH during storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ were measured. Degree of oxygen contents decreased and that of carbon dioxide in melon cylinder increased during storage. Especially, changes of gas composition inside packages appeared high level cor in blanched melon cylinders than non-treatment melons. Blanching with whole fruits at 50$^{\circ}C$ had effects on hardness in melon cylinder. Blanched melon, without regard on branching time, appeared higher hardness value than that of non-blanched melon at 6 days storage. There were slight difference between treatment on melon cylinder color. Degrees of change in soluble solid contents and pH on melon cylinder blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets were lower than that of other treatments. In consequence, blanching with whole fruit at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets, before minimal processing, was effective in preserving of texture and quality of melon cylinder during storage.

Evaluation of a Tunneling Technique under the Latissimus Dorsi Muscle for Thoracostomy Tube Placement in Eleven Dogs (흉강 튜브 삽입을 위한 넓은 등근 아래 터널 만들기 방법에 대한 평가)

  • The present study evaluated the outcome of use of thoracostomy tube tunneling technique under the latissimus dorsi muscle for the evacuation of postoperative pneumothorax induced by thoracotomy in 11 dogs. A stab incision was made through the skin and the latissimus dorsi muscle over the rib in the fifth intercostal space caudal to a surgical window. The thoracostomy tube with a Kelly hemostat was advanced into the thoracic cavity in a cranioventral direction through the sublatissimal tunnel. After tube placement, a # 1 nylon horizontal mattress suture was placed around the skin incision. The thoracostomy tube was removed after creating a negative pressure in the thoracic cavity. Dogs were monitored after surgery for pneumothorax, subcutaneous emphysema, clinical signs including dyspnea, and tube kinking in a muscle tunnel using physical examination and postoperative radiography. There was no tube kinking in the sublatissimal tunnel in 11 dogs on introducing the tubes into the thoracic cavity. The mean (${\pm}SD$) follow-up period was $19{\pm}10$ months. On postoperative radiography, there was no evidence of pneumothorax in 11 dogs. Subcutaneous emphysema was identified around the stab incision in a dog postoperatively. The subcutaneous emphysema disappeared spontaneously within 3 days. On postoperative physical examination, there was no evidence of dyspnea in 11 dogs. Our results suggest that the sublatissimal tunneling technique for thoracostomy tube placement is effective to prevent air leakage around the thoracostomy tube while the tube remains in the thoracic cavity and along the thoracostomy tunnel after tube removal. Tunneling under the latissimus dorsi muscle should be considered the thoracostomy tube placement technique to prevent iatrogenic pneumothorax with first priority.

가사활동에 따른 피로도 감소를 위한 입좌식 부엌가구의 개발에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구는 주부들의 주활동공간인 부엌가구와 공간의 설계에 있어사용하기 편리하며 가사활동에 따 른 피로를 경감시키고 요통과 같은 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있는 부엌가구와 공간의 개발에 그 목적을 두었다. 연구는 먼저 수도권의 32평형 규모의 아파트150가구를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 만 24시간동안의 실제 가사활동을 Video로 촬영하여 동작분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 주부들은 수납의 용 이성과 공간의 크기, 작업대의 높이 등을 가장 많은 개선사항으로 지적하였으며, 절반이상의 주부들이 앉은 자세에서 작업이 이루어졌으면 좋겠다고 응답하였다. 또한 동작분석 결과 작업의 70%이상이 개수 대를 중심으로 조리대와 가열대 주변의 한정된 공간에서정적으로 선 자세에서이루어지는 것으로 파악 되었다. 이러한 선 자세에서의 작업에 따른 피로도를 감소시키기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입하였으며, 개수대를 씽크대의 'ㄱ'자 코너에 위치하여 주방활동시의 이동거리를 단축하고자 하였다. 피로도의 경감 을 측정하기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입한 개선된 씽크대와 기존의 입식씽크대에서 가사활동시 요구되는 주부들의 에너지 대사량을 비교하기 위하여 심장박동수와 산소호흡량을 측정하였다. 실험결과에 따르면 주방에 입좌식의자를 도입한 경우가 가사활동에 요구되는 에너지 소모량이 심장박동수와 산소호흡량의 기준에서 각각 평균적으로 30%와 57.5% 이상이 감소하는 것으로 파악되어 이러한 부엌가구의 도입으로 주부들의 가사활동에따른 피로도가 절반 가까이 감소될 수 있음을 니타내었다. 또한 부엌가구의 재배치 에따른 가사활동시 이동거리가 평균적으로5.5%이상이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 주방설 계에 적용할 경우 가사활동의 효율성과 편리성이 향샹됨은 물론 가사활동에따른 피로도를 경감 시키고 요통 등의 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.1일 1회씩 4회 투여한 군에서도 암수에 상관없이 전 농도 군에서 염색체이상을 나타내지 않아 유전독성을 나타내지 않음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance. Effects of Edible Coatings on the Quality of Fresh-cut Pears (가식성 코팅처리가 신선절단 배의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • To examine the effects of edible coatings on the quality of fresh-cut fruits, Shingo pear was coated with several concentration of albumin, WSF(whole soy flour), dextrin and SPE (sucrose polyester) solution and quality characteristics, sensory evaluation and respiration rate were determined during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Weight loss rate was reduced in coated fresh-cut pears. 2% dextrin and 1% WSF for pears were more effective in reducing weight loss rate during storage. In preventing the browning of fresh cut fruits, browning was inhibited by coating with 0.5% WSF, 1% albumin, 3% dextrin for pears. Compared with non-coated pears, 0.5% WSF, 1% albumin and 3% dextrin coating were effective in inhibiting the color changes. Even if hardness had a tendency to decrease in coated and no71-coated fruits during storage dextrin coating induced texture softening in fresh-cut pears. The changes in decrease of titratable acidity and vitamin C content and increase of pH and soluble solid were recessed by coatings but there was no differences in accordance with coating materials. Sensory evaluation of coated pears was conducted in according to coating materials and concentrations. Pears coated with 0.5% albumin, 4% dextrin, 1.0% SPE and 0.5% WSF recorded high sensory score. Among the tested coating materials and concentrations, 4% dextrin was the best in all organoleptic quality of coated pears. Respiration rate was repressed by coating with WSF and dextrin in pears.

Effect of Water Temperature and Packing Type on Quality of Fresh-Cut Sesame Leaf (세척 깻잎의 선도 유지에 대한 세척수 온도와 포장 형태의 영향)

  • Quality attributes of fresh-cut sesame leaf (Perilla frutescens var. japonica) as affected by hydrocooling and packing were investigated in terms of weight loss, respiration, vitamin C content, total chlorophyll content, microbial load and sensory properties during storage at 4 and $10^{\circ}C$. Fresh sesame leaf was trimmed and washed with cold water (1, $5^{\circ}C$) as well as tap water ($13^{\circ}C$) for 30 sec 3 times and then packaged in PP (polypropylene) film bag and PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) tray, and stored for 9 days at 4 and $10^{\circ}C$. Weight loss was decreased by washing and packing. Respiration rate was increased slowly over the storage at $4^{\circ}C$. Vitamin C content and total chlorophyll contents of sesame leaf packaged within PETE tray decreased gradually during storage. Hydrocooling and packing within PETE tray treatments resulted in approximately $1{\sim}2\;log\;CFU/g$ reduction of microbial load.

  • The foreign bodies in air way require the emergent managements in the otolaryngolagic field, and if the diagnosis and treatment were delayed, unexperted catastrophic situations may occur. The authors had analysed the airway foreign bodies of 50 cases which had been ventilating bronchoscopy. 1. In sex distribution, male to female ratio was 2.8 : 1. 2. In the age incidence, 58% were 1∼5 yrs. 3. Frequent symptoms, were coughing (68%), dyspnea (52%) and cyanosis (18%) in the oder. 4. The significant foreign body histories were noticed in 33 cases (66%). The initial misdignosis were 28%, and af which 57.1% were URI 5. In auscultation, decreased breathing sounds were noticed in 46%, wheezing were 24% and 26% were with in normal limit. 6, In duration af lodgement, 68% were removed within 24 hours. 7. Tracheostomy were performed in 24%, and foreign bodies were removed by ventilating bronchoscope in 72%. 8. The foreign bodies were vegetable (46%), metal (28%), plastic (18%) and fish bone (8%). 9. The prevalent site of foreign body were right main bronchus, left main bronchus, and trachea in the order mentioned.

A Clinical Study of the Foreign Body in the Air Passage (기도이물의 임상적 고찰)

  • A clinical study was done on 24 cases with foreign body in the air passage, who were treated at the department of otolaryngology of Kyung Hee university hospital during the period from Apr. 1973 to Feb. 1983. The obtained results were as follows : 1) The incidence of sex was much higher in male than female and children under 4 years old were predominant. 2) Almost of all patients came in the hospital within 3 days after onset. However one patient came in hospital 5 months later. 3) The variety of foreign body was numerous, among which vegetables and plastic materials were most frequently found. 4) The most common sites of lodgement were trachea and right main bronchus. 5) The common clinical manifestations were dyspnea, decreasing breathing sound and cough. Negative X-ray findings did not exclude a foreign body in the air passage. 6) The important pulmonary complications due to foreign body were atelectasis, emphysema and pneumonia. 7) Foreign body was successfully removed by use of peroral or inferior endoscopy in all cases except one case, on whom thorachotomy was done. 8) The important complications due to the surgical procedure were decannulation difficulty and pneumothorax.

Cervical Paraganglioma Originated from Lingual Vein in a Boston Terrier Dog (보스턴 테리어에서 발생한 혀정맥 유래 목부위 곁신경절종 증례)

  • A 7-year-old castrated male Boston terrier dog was referred due to dyspnea and unilateral cervical mass. On physical examination, mass on left submandibular region was palpated. CT findings revealed this case could be the tumor originated from left lingual vein. The client refused further treatment and the patient expired because of respiratory failure 10 days after presentation. On necropsy, a well-defined firm mass which located in the left side of larynx was detected. Histopathological findings for the mass indicated polygonal tumor cells arranged in nest and separated by fibrovascular septa. We performed immunohistochemisry to evaluate of chromogranin A and tumor cells showed positive immunoreactivity for chromogranin A. Based on computed tomography (CT), histopathological and immunohistochemical findings, this case was definitely diagnosed to paraganglioma of the body on the lingual vein. This report describes the clinical findings, CT imaging characteristics, histopathologic and immunohistochemical features of paraganglioma arised from lingual vein in a dog.
