A Study on the Ontological Meaning of Life in The Canonical Scripture (『전경』에 나타난 생명의 존재론적 위상)

  • This study aims at determining the meaning of Life in The Canonical Scripture of the Daesoon Thought upon the ontological bases of occidental philosophies; especially upon those of Plato and Bergson. In western philosophy, the word ontology designates investigating the meanings of being, which is derived from the Greek 'onto (being)' and 'logia (logical discourse).' The various meanings of life have been sought from ancient times all over the world, for these are the critical and vital questions that pertain to the nature of human existence. Plato had asserted that life, in his word, soul, had three different kinds of aspects of meaning. Immortal, reciprocal, and divine. Plato scheme was such that the soul could die, but after death it could became reborn into another various forms of living creatures. The real inner life of humans, the soul, would live eternally. Henri-Louis Bergson, a famous French philosopher from the 20th century, claimed that life had three different kinds of aspects. Self-identity, Élan vital (vital impetus) and liberty. Bergson insisted especially the real meaning of life had been characterized by "unité multiple et multiplicitéune," "unity as something multiple and multiplicity something singular." The meaning of life in Daesoon Thought could be said to have three different characteristics, solidarity, earthly immortality and grievance-resolution. Some similarities can be found between certain western ontological meanings of life and those of Daesoon Thought. Namely, the qualities of eternity, reciprocity, and divinity.

For these, this paper has discussed (1) historical development of the library and information science, (2) the library and information science researcher's approach methods to the library and information science theory, (3) the present status quo and problems that are confronting in the area of the library and information science and (4) the perspectives of the library and information science and especially the library and information science education programs.

  • The relation of City and type caused by Neo-Rationalism often posed a subject in the modern urban architectural design and is treated by essential concept and methodology. The purpose of this study was that Neo-Rationalism architecture recognized and treated by metaphysical form and singular image examined on the urban viewpoint. In other words, interpretation concept of city and architecture considered through typological architectural theory and work analysis of Neo-Rationalism architect. Accordingly, the urban contextual characteristics of Neo-Rationalism architecture were aimed to analyze by examining the acceptance mode.

  • Whitehead is a greatest mathematical philosopher who expanded mathematical concepts and method in philosophy. In view of Whitehead that he emphasizeson metaphysical perspective, mathematical truth and empirical connection of reality, it explicates that it tends to empiricism and rationalism of mathematical philosophy. In this paper, we try to research his unique perspective of mathematical philosophy. His perspective on organic philosophy is combination of empiricism trend and rationalism trend of mathematical philosophy.

  • Are properties and relations objects in the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus? In this paper I will discuss essentially important problems concerning that question. That is, I will try to show that in a sense the concept of objects of the Tractatus is closely intertwined with that of Frege, and moreover the former was suggested to overcome Frege's predicament concerning the concept of objects. In the process of our discussions, it must be kept in mind that these discussions have no relations with metaphysical disputes, but proceed only from a logical point view. Futhermore it is Ramsey that made a most decisive contribution on these problems. In this paper I will try to show that in the Tractatus, properties and relations are objects via the discussions of Ramsey who was under the direct influences of Wittgenstein.

The Rhythm of Education in Mathematics Education (수학교육에서 살리는 '교육의 리듬')

  • Whitehead proposed that the education proceed through the rhythmic cycle on the basis of his metaphysical philosophy and educational philosophy. 'The Rhythm of Education' means that the intellectual levels of learners are elevated through the rhythmic cycles of stages of romance, precision, and generalization over and over again. As a result of these cyclic repetitions, the learners become truly free of inner prejudice. This study is to seek a method to apply Whitehead's proposition to mathematics education. I devise the curriculum constructing methods to experience Whitehead's three stages meaningfully, the teaching methods interplaying freedom and discipline rhythmically, and the teaching examples which adopt all these.

  • Light is the essential and symbolical entity In architecture. But the meaning of light has been changed as time has passed, and today it has plural meaning and more sophisticated role. Since 1960's 'Light and Space Art' has accomplished many successful experiments through light and space as artistic media, and they have changed the understanding of light from the electrical source to the phenomenological energy and sensual medium. And also the role of space in their works takes the more human-oriented field constituted from the coherent relationship of internal parts including human being. Light could be 'an object' and 'material' under 'Light and Space Art' artists' persistent efforts. They revealed another realm of spatial experiences such as extension-the metaphysical space, heterogeneous relationship-the complex space, and dematerialization-the illusionary space. The secondary and inclusive effects by 'Light and Space Art' can be found In the phenomenological architecture, the post-modern architecture, and the immaterial tendency of contemporary architecture. However, the more close connections between 'Light and Space Art' and the specific architectures are still left as a portion aside for the further research.

주자(朱子)의 『중용(中庸)』해석에 관한 고찰

  • 이 논문은 중국 남송시대 성리학의 집대성자인 주자(朱子)(1130-1200)가 "중용"을 어떻게 분장절(分章節)하고, 그 구성을 어떻게 이해하였으며, 나아가 "중용"을 어떤 책으로 규정하면서 어떤 입장을 갖고 해석하였는지를 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 주자는 이정(二程)형제가 "중용"을 "공문(孔門)에서 전한 심법(心法)"으로 정의한 입장을 수용하면서, "중용(中庸)"을 표창(表彰)하여 "예기(禮記)"에서 분리 독립시켜 사서(四書)의 하나로 정립하였다. 그는 40세 전후에 "장구" 및 "혹문"의 초고를 완성하고, 20여년 간 수정한 끝에 "중용장구"의 서문을 썼다. 주자는 "중용"이란 글을 최초로 나름의 원칙을 갖고 유기적인 체계속에서 33장으로 분장(分章)하고, 사대절(四大節) 혹은 육대절(六大節)로 그 체계를 나누었다. 그는 이러한 분장절(分章節)을 통해 "중용"이란 책은 중화(中和), 중용(中庸), 군자지도(君子之道)의 비은(費隱), 천도(天道)로서의 성(誠)과 인도(人道)로서의 성지(誠之), 그리고 천인합일의 길을 제시한 책으로 구성되어 있다고 말하였다. 나아가 우리는 주자가 "중용"이란 책을 공자의 손자인 자사(子思)가 도통의 단서를 계승하기 위해서 기술한 책이라고 말하면서, "서경(書經)" "대우모(大禹謨)"의 구절과 "중용"의 내용이 합치된다고 하는 주장을 살폈다. 마지막으로 우리는 주자의 "중용"해석에서 나타난 특징을 살펴보았다. 주자는 나름의 일관된 철학적 형이상학적 입장을 갖고 "중용"을 해석하였는데, 그의 해석에는 이기론(理氣論), 이일분수설(理一分殊說), 성즉리(性卽理), 성발위정론(性發爲情論), 그리고 존양(存養) 성찰(省察)의 수양법 등이 고스란히 반영되어 있다는 것을 살폈다. 그리고 우리는 주자가 이런 "중용" 해석을 통해 유학의 정통성을 정립함과 동시에 도불(道佛)을 위시한 여타 학파를 비판 극복하려고 했다는 점을 살폈다.

The Notion and Forms of Pataphor in Science Educational Contents Design (과학 교육콘텐츠 디자인에서 파타포(Pataphor)의 개념과 유형)

  • As the paradigm of science education has been changing from offering scientific knowledge to 'Public Understanding', ways of communication through visual tools in science education has become increasingly important. In this study, I considered 'Pataphor' as a visual tool for scientific communication, and suggested its functions and forms. By studying the notion of pataphor, which was used an overlapped image of virtual reality and reality in literature, in the perspective of contents design, I defined 'Pataphor' as a visual way of deducing or making the metaphysical similarity with the reality based on scientific imagination. Also, I deduced the functions of pataphor as a visual mediacy and suggested its types as "Pataphor of duplicated reality", "Pataphor of reflected reality", "Pataphor of metamorphosed reality", and "Pataphor of artificial reality". Through this study, it was found to be necessary to study in detail the ways to use pataphor depending on contents producing media's and learners' awareness process of contents so there will be a follow-up study on the ways to use pataphor.

A Case Review On Visualization of Abstract Concept for Idea Making (아이디어 발상을 위한 추상적 개념의 시각화 사례 연구)

  • Although in art an idea which visualizes a certain concept is generally such an essential part as it would be decisive to the success or failure of an art work in reality various difficulties are involved in idea making. Thus, directions for the idea making for visualization works are suggested in this paper. This paper classifies several cases of expression skills among non-abstracts showing the contents which visualize abstract concepts in western art after Renaissance when freedom of individual artistic expression and personal characteristics initiated. Also, this paper selects and introduces art works in which expression skills can be obviously explained. The expression skills are divided into symbolizing, allegory, specific pattern, non-abstract skills of surrealism, metaphysical distortion of logic and situation fixing, and specific examples on how the abstract concepts are formed and delivered are described. This is a case study done for the purpose of supplying help for the idea making in the applied art field which is lack of this kind of study.
