Application of Recycled Aggregate in Job site as Anti-freezing and Lean Concrete Base Materials (현장파쇄 재생골재의 동상방지층 및 빈배합 콘크리트 기층 시험시공연구)

  • The waste concrete produced by the process of the highway construction and management, has been crushed in-situ, and the waste aggregate has been experimentally used for anti-freezing layer and lean concrete. After testing the bearing capacity on anti-freezing layer, it was found that when the waste aggregates mixed with natural sand would be within the required gradations, the layer meets the requirements of limitation and the percentage to passing 2$\sim$20mm sieve increased by 5$\sim$13% because the flimsy mortars on aggregate were re-crushed by vibrated-roller compactor. The compressive strength of lean concrete using recycled aggregate was 71$\sim$85% of the natural coarce aggregate made, but nevertheless the recycled aggregates are applicable to the lean concrete because they largely exceeded the required strength, $57.5kgf/cm^2$.

  • The production accounts of domestic by-product is increased after 1990's. It is worried about the life reduction of dump land, as dump land's capacity have reached to limitation and the amount of construction industrial wastes is going higher. Recently, recycling aggregates could be gained from the reconstruction works using recycle process, and the study research of recycle concretes developed concrete application methods. It could put some outcome of studies to practical use for concrete products. The methods of crushing waste concrete are going diverse. In this study. the fundamental experiments and recycling application is investigated and analyzed with use of recycling aggregate which made of mechanical crush and underwater electrical impact crush, and the difference between underwater electrical impact crush, mechanical crush and natural aggregates is studied.

  • In this study, the recycled concrete aggregates crushed in-situ were used for the access road pcc (portland cement concrete) pavement. Based on laboratory results, the properties of materials, mixture proportioning, blend rates, and application conditions were investigated prior to trial application, and the various problems on recycled concrete aggregate under construction have been comprehensively checked.

  • To select the proper material for lean concrete, the recycled aggregates produced by 3 crushers, such as jaw, impact and mill-treated, were investigated for the gradation and the compaction, and strength of concrete made of them. The experiments for all the recycled aggregates used, showed that the cylinders made of them had 7-day compressive strengths over 50kgf/$cm_2$, the provision of qualification, and the OMCs are in the range 5.7% to 6.8%. Also, the unit cement contents for the impact-crushed are 158kg/$cm_2$.

A Study on the Performance of Recycled Asphalt Pavement using Hot Recycling Plant (재생 아스팔트 포장의 공용성능 연구)

  • The recycled asphalt concrete has gotten increasing attention due to the environmental issues. The volume of reclaimed asphalt has increased significantly for last few years because of city remodeling, pavement maintenance, utility excavation, and road widening. Considering the value of reclaimed asphalt, it is rather used for the recycled asphalt concrete than it is used for fill and cover up material instead of soil. This research will be a supplements incomplete issues from existing research results and suggests the quality control guideline for recycled asphalt concrete and upcoming laws. As the first step of research, the trial construction of RAP(Recycled Asphalt Pavement) performed in expressway construction sites. These trial construction sites have been checked every years. And another construction sites studied and selected for more deeper performance check of RAP. For this checks, we used automatic pavement survey equipment and computerized analysis tools. Also, DSR(Dynamic Shear Rheometer) was used for the fatigue life calculation of binder blends(RAP and virgin binder). As a consequence of this research, the application of recycled asphalt provides good enough quality for highway construction. The preceeding literatures reviewed shows that the asphalt rejuvenator are used in many countries but that type of chemical agent are not used in Korea. By using the data of trial construction and mix design in Chongwon-Sangju construction lane, the surface and base courses consisted with the 10% and 30% rap mix asphalt section maintains good performance for up to 7 years. Through the performance check and laboratory tests(DSR), the quality control and mixture's low temperature prevention are the important factor and chemical agent necessary for increasing the fatigue life of RAP binder.
