대학도서관은 연구와 교육의 센터로서 대학의 내부소속인의 교육과 연구, 학습을 뒷받침해왔다. 현대사회에서 평생교육과 자기주도 학습, 지적자유에 대한 사회적 요구가 커지면서 이제 대학도서관은 내부소속인 뿐만 아니라 외부이용자를 위한 서비스도 제공하는 이른바 지역사회 개방을 시행하고 있다. 이 연구는 지역사회 개방에 대한 선행연구들을 참고하여 지역사회 개방에 대해 알아보고, 대구지역의 대학도서관을 중심으로 지역사회 개방의 현황에 대해 구체적으로 분석하였다.

Uncovering ideological trends and varieties embedded in contemporary progressive librarianship, the depth and breath of the librarians' thoughts should be more expandable than before. That is the purpose of the study. To accomplish the purpose, this study analyzed key ideologies of American progressive librarian Zoia M. Horn(1918-2014) as reviewing carefully her biography with the inductive approach for qualitative data analysis. As a result, author suggests that the core values of Z.M. Horn's library freedom ideologies have identified as equality, intellectual freedom, and pacifism. In addition, the ingredients of these core ideologies also were identified.

In this paper, I studied on reading instruction in the school library. Reading instruction is a very important role of school library. And it is an essential element of school education. In this paper, I tried an application of constructivism for reading instruction. Information literacy instruction of school library includes reading instruction. So the pattern of information literacy instruction of school library was accepted as reading instruction pattern of school library in this paper. And then constructivism for learning principle and reading strategies as reading instruction was analyzed in this paper. Gerard J. Westhoff categorized reading strategies into 4 parts. I applied this categorization of reading strategies to the reading instruction pattern. And I analyzed and synthesized these relative constructivism elements and reading strategies for the reading instruction pattern in this paper.

Social changes characterized by new normal also demand changes in libraries and libraries are making preemptive efforts. This study compared and analyzed the difference in librarian perceptions between the start of COVID-19 in 2020 and after experiencing the pandemic in 2022 in terms of the relative importance of library policies considered by pairwise comparative analysis. In the 1st survey, the importance of factors related to 'Library Management' and 'Library Services' was high and in the 2nd survey, the importance of factors related to 'Human Resources' and 'Information Resources' increased. This study insists that the public libraries invest in human resources and information resources and establish a user-customized policy in order to quickly adapt to the new paradigm and to provide sustainable library services.

SNS(Social Networking Service)의 활용률이 높은 현대 사회에서 광범위하게 사용되고 있는 SNS 마케팅은 도서관계에서는 범위 및 확산되는 속도가 다른 영역에 비해 느리다. 이를 분석하기 위한 국내의 연구들이 있었지만 SNS 마케팅이 활성화되어 있는 해외의 사례에 비해 적은 국내의 자료로 인해 난항을 겪고 있음에 주목하였다. 특히 국내외 대학도서관의 SNS 마케팅 현황을 관찰하고 이를 확산 이론과 연결하는 것을 통해 다시 한번 현재 상황을 분석하였다.

The objective of this study is to understand the application of relative location system and minute classification system in the DDC and to identify the effect of the relative location system and minute classification system during the late of 19th century. In order to achieve the objective, four main investigation areas were chosen: relative location system, minute classification system, and DDC influence to other libraries and classification systems. First, DDC applied a relative location system revolutionarily instead of a fixed location system for arranging books on the shelves, so it opened the period of modern library classification systems. Second, it used a minute classification system, and could classify books which had minute subjects. Third, it applied form to a criterion for dividing divisions and sections, so it helped for classifying books. Fourth, it used a numerical decimal system as a classification system, then people could use it economically and practically. Last, DDC influenced modern classification system such as the Expansive Classification and the Subject Classification etc. DDC is a suitable library classification system for the needs of the times, and it is a practical classification system for each library.

I studied on the relations of constructivism and school library assisted instruction in this paper. Constructivism is the most important goal of the modern schooling. In constructivism they insist that knowledge is constructed by the learner individually and subjectively. So in constructivism they focus their attention on setting authentic environment of learning for each individual learner. Constructivism was developed into the learner-centered instruction in schooling nowadays. In constructivism the following instructions are very important for achievement its' goal ; problem based learning, project based learning, discussion based learning etc. These instructions are supported commonly by resource based learning. Educational resources are managed in school library totally. School library assisted instruction is the most effective one for resource based learning. And information literacy instruction by teacher librarian relates closely meta cognitive learning of reflections in constructivism. School library assisted instruction is the essential element for the practice of constructivism in schooling.

This study aims to examine the effects of bureaucratic characteristics, which are the most common in modern library organizations among organizational characteristics of public libraries, on the organizational commitment of librarians. Doing this analysis, 185 librarians from 20 public libraries in the Seoul metropolitan area of South Korea were surveyed to look into the bureaucratic and post-bureaucratic characteristics of each library, such as specialization, hierarchy of authority, system of rules, integration, and participation, and the three dimensions of organizational commitment of affective commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment. According to this analysis, the hierarchy of authority had a negative effect on affective and normative commitment, while integration had a positive impact on affective and continuance commitment, and participation had a positive effect on affective and normative commitment. The findings, therefore, show that a combination of bureaucratic and post-bureaucratic characteristics, which reduces the hierarchy of authority and strengthens integration and participation, would increase organizational commitment. This study is meaningful in that, through empirical research, it suggests organizational bureaucratic characteristics that would raise organizational commitment in public library organizations.

The study aims to identify the design character of libraries today into outwardness which enhances publicity in the library buildings. This design trend tends to be emphasized in contemporary civic libraries. In these days, the libraries become not only to be the traditional places of information but also to be the multi-purpose places to provide community services and cultural spaces. Thus the contemporary libraries, especially big civic libraries, are willing to open to the public of diverse purposes and to accelerate social communication among them through outward design in the buildings. This study surveys literatures and identify accessibility, symbolism, openness, amenity, connection, as the characters of publicity in the libraries. The study also examines the outward design strategies of the libraries which enhance publicity in the ways of design to connect surrounding environment, to symbolize buildings, to wrap transparent external surfaces and to build interior spaces. The study finds in the case studies of ten outstanding civic libraries abroad which were built in relatively recent years that the outward design is achieved mainly through four ways. First, the libraries have connection with surrounding urban environment, thus have continuities from the surrounding. Second, the libraries have the shapes of landmarks which expose themselves and their roles to the outside. Third, the libraries have transparent surfaces through which outdoor environment penetrates into the buildings. Fourth, the libraries have corridors and halls which look like traditional urban public streets and plazas. The study concludes that outward design strategies which employ in contemporary libraries enhance publicity in the libraries. Thus the libraries can perform as multi-functional cultural and open places which accelerate social interactions among the public of cities. This study has the value as a research which emphasizes outwardness as the design strategies which enhance publicity in contemporary libraries.
