Entrepreneurship and innovation are highlighted as a way to overcome limitations and risk factors caused by today's uncertain business environment. As the uncertainty in the business environment increases, organizations are required to adapt to ever changing business dynamics. For this adaptation, entrepreneurship and innovation are crucial factors. This study proposes a model to explain a structural relationship between entrepreneurship, technological innovation, and innovation performance. The unit of analysis focus is small and medium-sized businesses. Empirical results show that there are positive causal relationships from entrepreneurship to technological innovation, and from technological innovation to innovation performance. Additionally, no direct relationship from entrepreneurship to innovation performance can be achieved through innovation activities such as technological innovation. This study points out the importance of entrepreneurship and technological innovation, and suggests that entrepreneurship along with technological innovation should be internalized as business practices leading to increased performance.

This study investigates the extent to which product innovation is associated with firm performance, and how this effect is moderated by other type of innovation efforts. Empirical analysis is conducted (1) to determine the effect of product innovation on firm performance; (2) to explore the moderating effect that process innovation, organizational innovation and marketing innovation activities each has on the relationship between product innovation and firm performance. The analytical sample comprises a total of 816 Korean manufacturing firms from the 2010 KIS (Korean Innovation Survey) data and merged with financial data from KIS Info for acquiring the objectivity. The results show that product innovation is positively associated with a firm performance. Product innovation when combined with higher levels of process, organizational and marketing innovation activities resulted in higher firm performance. The results suggest that product innovation is a decisive factor of firm performance. More importantly, process, organizational and marketing innovation activities support product innovation and thus impact firm performance indirectly. In addition, this study examines the effect of innovation activities on firm performance by different firm size and R&D intensity, thereby further improving the details of this study.

본 연구는 신 국제무역이론(Meltzer, 2012, 2014, 2015)에 대한 실증분석을 목적으로 한다. 신국제무역이론은 기술혁신역량에 대한 이질적 기업분포가 국제무역에 미치는 영향을 중심으로 전개된다. 이 새로운 국제무역이론은 기술혁신분포형태가 국제무역효과를 결정한다는 핵심가정에서 출발하기 때문에 실증적으로 우리나라 제조 기업 기술혁신분포를 추정하고, 기술혁신분포형태 즉 우리나라 기업의 기술혁신과 기술모방분포에 대한 통계적으로 검증하여, 신 국제무역이론기반에 대한 적정성을 평가하였다. 본 분석결과를 바탕으로 기술정책 및 산업정책 방향을 간단하게 제언하였다.

외국 기술을 모방하여 그 궤적을 따라가는 추격형 기술혁신모델의 한계가 노정되면서 새로운 기술혁신모델의 필요성이 증대하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 모방에 의거한 추격형 혁신활동을 넘어서는 탈추격형(post catch-up)기술혁신활동의 특성을 조감하는 작업을 수행했다. 특히 분석대상을 중소기업에 맞추어져 이들의 탈추격형 혁신활동 사례를 살펴보았다. 기술집약형 중소기업의 혁신활동의 활성화는 그 자체가 대기업 중심의 한국혁신체제의 전환을 보여주는 의미 있는 현상이기 때문이다.

Research on innovation has a long tradition from various disciplines. MIS research has also been interested in the innovation adoption because IS development and implementation can be regarded as an innovation process. To deal with IT innovations, MIS research adopted existing innovation(diffusion) theories which have been developed on general innovation phenomena. However, the MIS innovation research revealed that there exist some limitations in applying the innovation theories to IT innovations and proposed that research on IT innovations should reflect the unique characteristics of IT. The purpose of this study is twofold; first, to synthesize the past research and propose the uniqueness of IT innovations and second, to survey the Perceptions of managers on If innovations. Three unique characteristics of IT innovations are derived from the past research which are (1) knowledge barriers, (2) increasing returns, (3) organizational decision. Data collected from 68 Korean managers showed that the perceptions of managers support the uniqueness of IT innovations. Some recommendations to facilitate IT innovations are discussed and further research directions are suggested.

Advanced countries including OECD member countries focus on the Open Innovation strategy to strengthen their national science and technology innovation capability and to promote the utilization of its outcome. Numerous relevant researches are proceeded in these days, however, just few researches exist in the defense science and technology innovation fields. Therefore, the paper tries to apply Open Innovation concept to the national defense science and technology fields based on the change of defense environments and its problems. For this reason, the paper also presents the theoretical framework of defense Open Innovation and future directions for the purpose of strengthening the national defense science and technology innovation capability and expanding its outcomes.

This study reviews the emergence of new innovation policy paradigm in advanced countries and their impacts on the development of innovation theories in 1980s and 1990s. It shows that the characteristics of new policy paradigm are the emphasis on the user-orientedness and the socio-economic aspects of innovation and the preference of capability enhancement of innovators over resource subsidy This new perspectives of innovation policies had effects on the emergence and development of 'the innovation system theory' which is based on the key concepts such as interactive teaming, innovating capability and national systems of innovation. In spite of the development of the innovation system theory, it has some problems to be solved for the innovation policy design because 'the social' is still peripheral factors in the constitution on the innovation system theory. This study makes some suggestions to incorporate the social dimension of innovation into the innovation system theory.

This study explores the effect of open innovation activities on innovation performance by dividing into two dimensions of breadth and depth of open innovation activity, and it also verifies the mediating effect of technical protection between open innovation activities and innovation performance. In order to examine the hypothesis, it has surveyed 1,403 companies of manufacturing and service with experience in producing innovative results. The results find that the breadth of open innovation activities has a positive effect on the achievement of radical innovation, and the depth of open innovation activities brings a positive effect on the achievement of incremental innovation. The verification result of the mediating effect of technology protection indicates that partially mediated between the breadth of innovation activities and radical innovation activities, and in the case of the depth, it is completely mediated. The results of this study provide the crucial implications not only for the company promoting open innovation, but especially also for the companies promoting product innovation by acquiring technology.

기술혁신이란 말을 국어사전에서 찾아보면 새로운 기술 도입으로 일어나는 경제구조 등의 변혁을 이른다고 풀이하고 있다. 1958년 일본정부는「경제백서」를 발간하면서, '기술혁신'이란 말을 처음 사용하여 신어로 정책했다. 그 후 호시노라는 사람이 기술혁신문제를 체계적으로 정리해 "기술혁명이란 프로펠러 비행기에서 제트비행기로, 견사에서 나일론사로 변한 것처럼 어떤 새로운 원리에 의하여 폭발적인 발전을 하는 것을 말한다"고 했다. 그는 기술환경은 기술혁신 중의 혁신을 의미한다고 덧붙였다.

Innovation, esp. technological innovation, in service sectors has drawn much attention as innovation-driven economy and service-led growth has been emphasized in the 21st century. This paper attempts to analyze the technological innovation from the perspective of geography and to understand the role of cooperative networks in the technological innovation. In sum, this study reveals that more firms in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) tended to succeed in the technological innovation in service sectors than those in the provinces. However, the difference originated from the difference in firms' internal capabilities, not from the difference in the external innovative capabilities represented by cooperative networks relevant to innovative milieu. In terms of cooperative partners, the fm in the provinces placed special importance on universities as cooperative partners, while the firms in the SMA put much emphasis on various types of cooperative partners. The cooperation with private partners was a statistically meaningful variable for the occurrence of technological innovation, regardless of firms' location. The cooperation with public partners proved to influence firms' application for the intellectual property right such as patents in both the SMA and the provinces.
