Perilla, Perilla frutescens. (L.) Britton, is a traditional oil seed crops grown in Korea. The seeds and seed oil is used for edible and some industrial sectors. The seeds of perilla contains 35-54% of a drying oil which is similar to the linseed oil. The fatty acids of seed oil is composed with linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid. The majority of fatty acids of the oil is $\alpha$-linolenic acid proportioned 51-71% of the oil. This high linolenic acid makes it unstable of the oil and owing to the fast oxidation. Therefore, the plant breeders are challenges to develope a new varieties with low linolenic acid for edlible oil and high linolenic acid for industrial uses. Perilla foliage is also used as a potherb. The green leaves contains a special flavor, perilla aldehyde, and some abundant minerals and vitamins. The vitamin C and $\beta$-carotene is more available than lettuce and crown-daisy of which used for similar potherb and vegetables in traditional Korean food table. The authors are reviewed and discussed on the current status and prospects of the quality evaluations and researches in perilla seeds and leaves to provide and refers the condensed informations on their quality.
Nitrochlorobenezenes are used as intermediates for dyes, pharmaceuticals and perfumes. By far the most common industrial nitration process employs a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. Due to water formed in the reaction, the mixed acid nitration requires subsequent separation of spent acid, mainly dilute sulfuric acid. In the stream of ozone, nitrogen dioxide can be used as a nitrating agent for the nitration of chlorobenzene. With 6eq of $NO_2$ and 1.0eq/hr of ozone flow, the mononitration of chlorobenzene ended within 3hr at $0^{\circ}C$ while the dinitration of chlorobenzene did in 12hr. This method can be employed for the nitration of some aromatic compounds to reduce pollutants from the present mixed-acid process.

Synthetic musk compounds are widely used as fragrances in a variety of personal care products like soaps, sampoos, cosmetics and perfumes. The occurrence of synthetic musk compounds in municipal sewage effluent and other environmental samples could negatively impact the health of the ecosystem and humans, due to persistent and long-term chronic exposure of aquatic organisms. Fifteen synthetic musk compounds (musk ketone, musk xylene, musk ambrette, musk moskene, musk tibetene, HHCB, AHTN, ADBI, AHDI, DPMI, ATII, ethylenebrasssylate, ambretettolide, cyclopentadecanolide, OTNE) were analysed in surface waters and sewage treatment plants (STP) influents/effluents in Korea by GC/MS. Method detection limits were $0.005{\sim}0.398{\mu}g/L$. HHCB and AHTN were most frequently observed in both surface waters and STP influents/effluents.

Among natural products, the shells of black walnut(Juglans nigra), which are not used commercially and mostly discarded, were examined to investigate the physiological activity and the efficacy for the cosmetic application. DPPH radical scavenging activity of hot water extract of black walnut shells was 76.06% at 300 ㎍/mL. ABTS radical scavenging activity of the extract was 61% at 1000 ㎍/mL, showing excellent antioxidant activity. When the black walnut shell extract was applied to HaCaT cells, a skin keratinocyte, the viability of the cells was 92.6% at 250 ㎍/mL, showing a remarkably low effect on cell viability. At the concentration of 500 ㎍/mL, 67.35% of nitric oxide(NO) production was inhibited. It also showed an inhibitory effect on Hyaluronidase 31 times higher than that of Vitamin C at 100 ㎍/mL concentration. In conclusion, the black walnut shell extract showed high potentials for the cosmeceutical applications, suggesting the possibility of using it as a high value-added natural material in various industries such as food, fragrance, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.
Background: Fragrance substances in consumer products can cause adverse health effects such as contact allergy. In South Korea, consumer chemical products must list 26 known fragrance allergens on product labels when they contain more than 0.01%. Fragrance substances are mostly used in combination, so co-exposure can occur via use of a consumer chemical product. Co-exposure to fragrance allergens may show a synergistic effect on the human body. Objectives: The aims of the study were to analyze the characteristics of fragrance allergens in consumer chemical products available on public websites and to identify the co-occurrence patterns of fragrance allergens. Methods: The chemicals in 1,443 ingredient disclosures for consumer chemical products were collected through the Ecolife database. The 26 labelled fragrance allergens were identified by category of consumer chemical product. The co-occurrence patterns of the 26 labelled fragrance allergens were analyzed by frequent pattern mining. The unlabelled fragrance allergens presented by European Union Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety were also identified. Results: Consumer chemical products contained an average of 5.3±4.2 substances among the 26 labelled fragrance allergens. More than 85% of air fresheners, deodorizing agents, and fabric softeners contained at least one of the 26 labelled fragrance allergens. The most frequently contained fragrance allergens were limonene (50.5%), linalool (49.9%), hexyl cinnamal (34.0%), and citronellol (28.3%). 16.7% of consumer chemical products showed a co-occurrence of limonene, linalool, hexyl cinnamal, and citronellol. Thirty-eight unlabelled fragrance allergens were found in the consumer chemical products, with hexamethylindanopyran (25.2%) being the most frequently contained substance. Conclusions: The characteristics and co-occurrence patterns of 26 labelled fragrance allergens would be useful information for the management of co-exposure to fragrance allergens in consumer chemical products. It is necessary for attention to be paid to unlabelled fragrance allergens.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aromatherapy planned behavior on behavioral intention using the theory of planned behavior of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control as factors of the theory of planned behavior. The behavioral intention of aromatherapy planned behavior was analyzed to have a significant positive causal relationship between the independent variables of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on the behavioral intention of aromatherapy. As a result of testing Hypothesis 1, "Aromatherapy planned behavior will have an effect on behavioral intention," previous research confirmed that the greater the attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norm during aromatherapy planned behavior, the higher the participation intention. The verification was consistent with similar results between this study and this study. These results suggest that aromatherapy planned behavior will contribute to increasing aromatherapy's market share, reducing stress, and improving health through behavioral intention.
