  • Considering the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this study examines the changes and influences of intelligent information technology and the role of consumer education in the context of consumption life. The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical foundation to effectively respond to the future consumption society as an independent consumer by enhancing the understanding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in terms of consumption life. First, in terms of changes in the consumption paradigm in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, production and consumption are converged by being shared through a comprehensive connection platform in real time. Regarding the meaning of consumption, mental experience is being emphasized; moreover, usage and sharing, rather than ownership, are being highlighted. In terms of major changes in consumption life, the emergence of a more convenient smart consumption life and the possibility of personalized consumption optimized for individual demand are anticipated. Moreover, sustainable eco-friendly consumption is expected to increase further, and rapidly changing consumption trends will experience accelerated progress in consumer-centered changes. Next, the predicted problems in consumption life in the Fourth Industrial Revolution include unequal consumption due to intelligent information technology power center and the use and management of personal information data. Furthermore, ethical concerns related to the introduction of new technologies will become prominent, eventually resulting in issues concerning consumption satisfaction. To effectively respond to these new paradigm changes, consumer education should be value-centered. Ethical aspects of consumption should be considered, and consumption life should include trust and mutual cooperation. Furthermore, consumer education should facilitate creative convergence.

The subjects of analysis are 12 types of middle school textbooks: in total 24 books written by 12 publishers in terms of the revised curriculum in 2009. The analysis criteria is developed by the researcher referring to preceding studies regarding safety education based on the seventh safety education standard presented by the Ministry of Education (2015). With such analysis criteria, all words related to the contents of the safety education of analysis criteria were extracted from each textbook, such as words directly mentioned as 'safety', words mean as 'psychological safety' and 'happy life', words related to 'attention', 'note', 'stability' etc. Under the analytic frame of safety education contents according to a home economics textbook, content analysis method was used for producing the frequency and percent of those words. The textbook analysis shows that the number of pages regarding safety education is 336.3 pages, as 9.8% in total 3,412 pages of 12 types of technology and home economics textbooks. As following the analysis of each textbook volume of the proportion in the contents related to safety education, 224.9 pages are on the first volume and 111.9 pages are on the second volume. As grades increase from year one to year three, the proportion of safety education in home economics textbooks is decreased. The highest number of safety education contents unit is 'Self-management of youth' which includes three parts of safety education. In the case of a unit for emphasizing practice, experience and practical exercise such as 'Life of youth' and 'Practice of eco-living', safety education content in the area of 'life safety' are mostly contained. Safety accidents related to the most student experienced, Household accidents (1.4%) and experiment or practice accidents (0.3%) are presented in a low figure. The contents of universal housing and school violence are duplicated on first and second volume of text. The most presented safety education content in the 12 types of textbooks are proper sexual attitude, dietary problems, family conflict and food choice. The least common contents are dangerous drugs, family welfare, internet addiction and industrial accident compensation insurance. By using the cross-section data of 'A survey on the human right of Korean children and adolescent in 2013' issued by National Youth Policy Institute, the LPA concerning the stress type was conducted and surveyed 9,521 adolescents from fourth grade in elementary school to seniors in high school nationwide. The result of this study shows that two class types were selected according to the goodness-of-fit index and latent class classification rate. Type 1 is named low-risk group as they show low level, whereas type 2 is named relative risk group as they show high level. In order to predict the characteristics of adolescent stress, the study conducted Binary Logistic Regression analysis on the basis of low-risk group. There is higher probability to belong to relative risk group, the more they are female students than male students, the less their subjective health condition and happiness, the more runaway experience, the less school grades and the less economic affluence in their household. The implication of this research, its limitation and direction of follow-up research were suggested.

  • Currently, there are increasing demand for researches on the development of car-sharing operating strategy. In order to carry out the research, demand for car-sharing is required. However, since previous researches only adopted performance data or demand derived from several assumptions, spilled demand has been spotted due to lack of available cars. For this reason, we plan to suggest the way to estimate the value including spilled demand which has been spotted previously based on the record of utilization on the website of operating company, actual company providing car-sharing service. In the case of 'LH Happycar Service', difference between estimated demand and record of utilization is about twice the difference between estimated demand and record of inquiry. Especially, it is found that service rate does not go above once it reaches to its maximum rate because it cannot satisfy additional demands. In short, when we evaluate the demand for individual station based on the record of utilization only, it would be possible to underestimate the demand especially for the station at full capacity.

  • Using open-ended questionnaires, two studies were conducted to explore social representations held by Korean undergraduates on children, adults and adolescents. Study 1 compared between children and adults with responses reported by 97 undergraduates(men: 28, women: 69). According to the results, characteristics of children distinctive from adults were basically personality-related and in particular, typical children were marked by high extroversion, low agreeableness, conscientiousness and culture. Further, happiness for both children and adults was determined mainly by interpersonal relationships, physical health and socio-economical status. However, good(or desirable) children characteristic of high agreeableness and conscientiousness were more similar to adults worthy of the name than to children worthy of the name. Using 57 undergraduates(men: 16, women: 41), Study 2 explored social representations of adolescents. The results indicated that overall adolescence were on the bridging state between childhood and adulthood. Happiness for adolescents, like both children and adults, was determined mainly by interpersonal relationships and socio-economical status. Finally, agreeableness, conscientiousness, self-, task- and relationship-related characteristics were involved in judging good(or desirable) adolescents. These findings were discussed in terms of features of Korean culture and human development.

  • The concepts of core competencies and achievement standards were newly introduced within national curriculum documents since the 2009 Revised National Curriculum. The purpose of this introduction was to develop a curriculum that reflects unique characteristics of each subject and for the effectiveness of student evaluation. The purpose of this study was to suggest a direction for the future national curriculum and achievement standards development through comparing the national curriculum and standards between South Korea and the U.S. In particular, this study focused on two aspects: 1) the hierarchical relationships and the structural system of achievement standards in the curricula of two countries, and 2) the details of differences in two countries' achievement standards of a specific content area, 'family'. The results are as follows: the Korean national curriculum includes core competencies was included in the objective statement, and standards were provided as a lower-level system, while the U.S. national standards was composed of hierarchical system of comprehensive standards(higher-level), contents standards(middle-level), and competencies(lower-level). This may be attributable to the difference in the definition of competencies. The analysis results of detailed contents of the curriculum was related to the terminologies used in curriculum documents of the two countries. For example, work and family balance was frequently mentioned in Korean document, while the U.S. national curriculum just displayed multiple roles of individuals rather than using the term explicitly. Also, terms such as happiness and welfare were frequently mentioned in Korean curriculum, while 'well-being' was more frequently used in the U.S. curriculum. These differences in usage of terms reflects the differences in cultural values and perspectives of the two countries.
