  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group music therapy for at-risk Korean soldiers on the levels of adjustment and stress. The study was conducted at a division of the Korean Army with 7 participants who were classified as "at-risk soldiers" based on the results of a psychiatric evaluation, MMPI-II and a personal interview with a counselor. The participants received 12 hours of group music therapy for three weeks and their scores on stress and adjustment inventories were compared before and after the treatment. The pre and post scores were analyzed with the Wilcoxon test for repeated measures. The results revealed that the overall stress level was significantly decreased while there was no significant improvement in the adjustment levels at p < .05. The research findings and personal remarks from the participants suggest that group music therapy may provide effective support for at-risk Korean soldiers in coping with stress and adjustment to military life.

  • This study aims to conduct a music psychotherapy program on North Korean child defectors, who are experiencing acculturative stress, and to discover the effects of the program on the participants' acculturative stress. This study targeted four North Korean child defectors, who belonged to an H afterschool class in Seoul and performed the program in individual sessions for about 40 minutes per session, totaling 14 sessions. The research results include the following. First, after comparing the results of acculturative stress score that measured before and after the execution of the music psychotherapy program, the mean of the score was significantly decreased from 32.75 to 23 average. Furthermore, as a result of conducting a qualitative analysis of the lingual responses that the participants demonstrated in musical activity, in relation to acculturative stress, the participants were found to experience a positive change. These results imply that the music psychotherapy program offers consistent support through music to North Korean Child Defectors, who are cowering psychologically and experiencing difficulty in adaptation, and reinforces inner resources through their positive self-perception, which indicates that it can be an effective mediation in reducing their acculturative stress.

  • This study examined the fitness of a structural model on the relationship among biological risk disposition, sociocultural risk factors, self-control, social support, and suicidal ideation for woman adolescents. Data were collected from December 3, 2012 to March 28, 2013 by questionnaires from 343 middle and high school students in the D metropolitan city. The data was analyzed by the SPSS and AMOS programs. Biological risk disposition, sociocultural risk factors, self-control, and social support showed a direct effect on suicidal ideation for woman adolescents, while biological risk disposition and sociocultural risk factors showed an indirect effect on suicidal ideation for woman adolescents. Biological risk disposition and sociocultural risk factors showed a direct effect on self-control and social support for woman adolescents. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that emphasizes the reducement of biological risk disposition, sociocultural risk factors and enhancement self-control and social support in order to prevention woman adolescents' suicidal ideation.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of swimming and minocycline on motor function recovery and Bcl-2 expression after spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats. After operation, neurological motor behavior test (BBB scale) on days 1, 4, 7, 10, and 14 were tested. Western blot and immunohistochemical assessment (Bcl-2) were performed on day 14. BBB scale started to show a statistically significant difference on day 7 (p<0.05). On day 14, it showed the most significant (p<0.05) difference. Expression of Bcl-2 increased in all the experimental groups. In particular, the highest expression of Bcl-2 appeared in the swimming and minocycline groups. Based on these results, minocycline and swimming were the most effective factors in the motor behavior function and immunohistochemical assessment of SCI rats.

  • With increased complexity of product and market, the phenomenon that a consumer get paradoxical attitude toward marketing object has been increased. And this phenomenon eventually affects the relationship between consumer and product. In this study we tried to find more paradoxical phenomenon and understand consumer behavior confronting these situations when they buy agro-product based on ground theory methodology. According to the results, consumer's expectation and purchase experience can promote quality paradox experience during confronting various marketing activities such as price, product, promotion, place. Also these experience can cause quality paradox related interaction and communication even though there could be differences in their experience according to demographic characteristics, personal preference, and risk perception. Consumer will develop multiple strategies against quality paradox to manage the uncomfortable paradox experiences.

  • Although the physiological roles of calretinin have not been established, it may simply work as a calcium buffer or may actively work in calcium-mediated signal transduction. Calretinin plays a little role in the transport and physiological buffering of calcium in the adult photoreceptor cells, bipolar cells and horizontal cells of the human retina. We identified the calretinin-immunoreactive neurons in the inner nuclear cell layer and ganglion cell layer and the distribution pattern of the labeled neurons in the retina of a bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, in this study. We observed the existence of calretinin-immunoreactive AII amacrine cell in the inner nuclear layer and ganglion cells in the ganglion cell layer of bat retina through this study. This observation must be significant along with our previous studies as we need to study for more understanding about the unsolved issue of a bat vision and the unique behavioral aspects of bat flight maneuverability.
