Hydrodynamic Forces and Manoeuvring Characteristics of Ships at Low Advance Speed (저속시 선체에 작용하는 조종유체력 및 조종성능에 관한 연구)

  • One practical method has already been proposed for predicting the characteristics of ship manoeuvring motions at relatively high advance speed [19]. Howeverf, this method can hardly be applied to motions of ships in starting, stopping, backing and slow steaming conditions, even though such extensive motions are of vital importance from a safety point of view particularly in harbour areas. The method presented here aims at predicting the characteristics of ship manoeuvring at low advance speed, which covers starting, stopping, backing and slow steaming conditions. The force mathematical models at large angles of incidence to the hull as well as under the wide range of propeller operations are formulated. Simulations of various manoeuvres at low advance speed are carried out for two types of merchant ship, I.e. a LNGC and a VLCC. Comparisons between simulations and corresponding full-scale measurements [10], [15] or free-running model tests [6],[10] provide a first verification of the proposed mathematical models.

  • In the present maritime traffic conditions of Gwangyang harbor, there exists many hazardous factors which may lead to huge accidents including marine oil pollution. To mitigate the danger to vessels in Gwangyang harbor and to secure the safety of maritime environment, we established one way traffic between No.3 Route and No.4 Route, Designed of deep water line on No.3 route, Extended one-way route for Myo-Do Passage etc.

  • AIS(Automatic Identification System)는 선박과 육상 및 선박 상호간에 선박의 항행관련 정보를 상호 교환함으로써 안전항해를 제고하기 위하여 도입된 무선설비로서 그 활용도가 매우 높아지고 있으며 AIS 탑재 선박도 증가하고 있다. 그러나 AIS에서 사용하고 있는 초단파의 전파 특성으로 인하여 비교적 근거리 통신만 가능하고 장거리 선박추적 관리를 위한 용도로 활용하는 데는 어려움이 있었다. 이러한 통신권의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 저궤도 위성을 사용하는 위성 AIS의 도입에 대한 연구가 주요 선진국을 중심으로 추진되고 있으며, 성능을 제고하기 위한 기술 기준 연구도 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 저궤도 위성을 사용한 AIS의 문제점인 메시지 수신확률을 분석하기 위하여 현재 사용 중인 지상파 AIS의 특성 및 저궤도 위성 AIS의 문제점을 분석하고 메시지 수신확률에 대한 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 분석결과 위성 AIS는 지상파 AIS에 비하여 통신권이 크게 확대되는 반면 채널 용량의 한계 및 채널간 간섭으로 인하여 AIS 메시지 충돌이 심하게 발생하고 메시지 수신 확률이 매우 낮음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 현재의 지상파 AIS 표준을 적용한 위성 AIS의 실시간 정보 교환은 사실상 불가능하며 위성 AIS의 메시지 수신 확률을 제고하기 위해서는 위성 AIS를 위한 별도의 표준을 제정할 필요가 있음을 알 수 있다.

A Study on Navigation Speed of Jet-foil Ships in Busan Port (부산항내 제트포일 여객선의 항해 속력에 대한 연구)

  • There are more than 10 ships and jetfoil passenger ships with speeds of 30~40 kts navigating between Japan and Busan ports per hour. Busan port has the highest density of traffic among the Korean ports and waterways. Jetfoil ships are the most frequently encountered amongst other vessels and about 18 % of passing jetfoil vessels violated port regulations. Based on the analysis of traffic survey carried out for 10 days, jetfoil vessels often overtook other vessels in route and deviated with high speed. This paper verified a proper speed and how to navigate in or out route of jetfoil ships by marine traffic flow simulation. A acceptable navigation speed for jetfoil vessel's mariner was calculated at less than about 32kts in Busan Port. It is a little different that shiphandling difficulty of jetfoil was almost the same whether passing in and out route in Busan Port. This paper proposes that the passing time of jetfoil ships should avoid the peak time to improve the traffic safety in Busan Port.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated a compact UHF receive module for efficient operation such as tactical and operation situation, target location information confirmation, target reset using Link-K(Korean joint tactical data link system). And the effect of target reset was analyzed by simulation. The designed module consists of UHF(ultra high frequency) receiver section, control section, and power distribution section. The UHF receiver section performs frequency down conversion, filtering and automatic gain control, etc. The control section demodulates frequency down-converted signals, extracts information, and performs external interworking. The power distribution section supplies external power, generates and supplies the power required by each section. The fabricated module was dimension of $105{\times}105{\times}80mm$ and weighed 1.10 kg and The receiving distance is more than 50 km.

Improved Direction of Arrival Estimation Based on Coprime Array and Propagator Method by Noise Power Spectral Density Estimation (잡음 파워 스펙트럼 밀도 추정을 이용한 서로소 배열과 프로퍼게이터 기법 기반의 향상된 도래각 추정 기법)

  • We propose an improved direction of arrival (DoA) estimation algorithm based on co-prime array and propagator method. The propagator method with co-prime array does not require singular value decomposition (SVD) requiring much less computational complexity but exhibiting somewhat worse performance in comparison with MUSIC based on co-prime array. We notice that one cause of the performance degradation was in the avoidance of the usage of the diagonal elements of the signal autocorrelation matrix that contains the noise power spectral density. So we propose an algorithm with the diagonal elements of the signal autocorrelation matrix based on the fact that the noise power spectral density can be estimated using noise observation over a long period of time. We observe, through simulations, that the proposed scheme in this paper improves the performance, with 4 times more computational requirement, by signal-to-noise ratio of 1.5dB and by DoA resolution of $0.7^{\circ}$ at the detection probability of 95% compared with the previously introduced co-prime array propagator scheme, resulting in performance much closer to that of co-prime array-based MUSIC scheme.

Hardware Implementation of DCT and CAVLC for H.264/AVC based on Co-design (병행설계를 이용한 H.264/AVC의 DCT 및 CAVLC 하드웨어 구현)

  • In this paper, DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) and CAVLC(Context Adaptive Variable Length Coding) are co-designed as hardware IP with software operation of the other modules in H.264/AVC codec. In order to increase the operation speed, a new method using SHIFT table is proposed. As a result, enhancement of about 16(%) in the operation speed is obtained. Designed Hardware IPs are downloaded into Virtex-4 FX60 FPGA in the ML-410 development board and H.264/AVC encoding is performed with Microblaze CPU implemented in FPGA. Software modules are developed from JM13.2 to make C code. In order to verify the designed Hardware IPs, Modelsim program is used for functional simulation. As a result that all Hardware IPs and software modules are downloaded into the FPGA, improvement of processing speed about multiples of 16 in case of DCT hardware IP and multiples of 10 in case of CAVLC compared with software-only processing. Although this paper deals with co-design of H/W and S/W for H.264, it can be utilized for the other embedded system design.

  • This paper describes the performance evaluation and analysis of Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) in the 5 GHz ISM-band in compliance with IEEE 802.11a. At present, most W-LAN products are based on 2.4 GHz band, but low speed (11Mbps) has the limitation to serve systems demanding high-speed data transmission. To solve this problem, it is necessary to design next generation W-LAN system with 54Mbps in the 5GHz. It is sure that implementation of next generation W-LAN will bring competitive advantages. In particular, it will support telecommunications for high-speed mobile environments as well as for fixed places such as a school zone, a lecture room, a hospital and other premises. A few simulation methods are applied to more accurate and reliable performance analysis of next generation W-LAN. To verify if continuous data service is supported for a high-speed mobile notebook, multi-path fading channels between wireless Access Point (AP) and wireless Network Interface Card (NIC) are modeled. In addition, low interference is analyzed via convolutional codes and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Also, to obtain reliable Bit Error Rate (BER), a single tap Least Mean Square (LMS) equalizer is applied. Given the above simulation, next generation W-LAN is an ideal solution for continuous data transmission in high-speed mobile environments.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of multi-user detectors employing SIC(Successive Interference Cancellation) and PIC (Parallel Interference Cancellation) which are the representative schemes in the subtractive interference cancellation. We have considered the MUD structure employing HIC (Hybrid Interference Cancellation) which combines SIC with PIC scheme, and then analyzed the BER performance. We have evaluated the BER performance of SIC and HIC schemes which execute the soft decision to generate the tentative data bit for the purpose of the interference cancellation in MAI and noise environments. Through the numerical analysis and computer simulation, it is shown that HIC can remove the effect of MAI more efficiently than the others, that improve the BER performance and increase the capacity of DS-CDMA systems regardless of the power control conditions. The reason is that the SIC scheme in front of HIC can solve the near-far problem caused by the imperfect power control and PIC scheme in the rear of it can improve the performance much more.

  • In this paper, the proposed scheme is STBC(space-time block codes) system combined with convolution code which is the most popular channel coding to ensure the reliability of data transmission for a high data rate wireless communication. The STBC is one of MIMO(multi-input multi-output) techniques. In addition, this scheme uses a modified viterbi algorithm in order to get a high system gain when data is transmitted. Because we combine STBC and convolution code, the proposed scheme has a little high quantity of computation but it can get a maximal diversity gain of STBC and a high coding gain of convolution code at the same time. Unlike existing viterbi docoding algorithm using Hamming distance in order to calculate branch matrix, the modified viterbi algorithm uses Euclidean distance value between received symbol and reference symbol. Simulation results show that the modified viterbi algorithm improved gain 7.5 dB on STBC 2Tx-2Rx at $BER=10^{-2}$. Therefore the proposed scheme using STBC combined with convolution code can improve the transmission reliability and transmission efficiency.
