  • Modern marine navigation requires officers on the bridge to monitor a torrent of data on both the insides and outsides of the ship from numerous useful devices. But despite these tools, navigators can still find it difficult to make a safe decision for two reasons: one is that too much data if provided too quickly tends to cause fatigue and overwhelm the officer, and the other is that any inconsistency across data from several different types of devices can lead to confusion. Indeed, the fact remains that the many marine accidents can be attributed to human error, and hence there is a strong need for decision-support tools for marine navigation. One technique of providing decision support is through the use of simulation to evaluate or predict system dynamics over time using an accurate model. This paper, as a simulation method for risk prediction for a navigation safety information system of ship, suggests a navigation prediction simulation system using various knowledge bases and discrete event simulation methodology, and supports the validity of the system through the examples of components in a restricted navigation situation scenario.

  • The study of information fusion technology, which merges various types of data to recognize a situation more exactly, has begun in the area of national defense. Recently, the concept of information fusion is getting applied to other fields, and we are interested in maritime safety. In navigation, officers receive data about inside and outside of ship from several devices in bridge, and use it to recognize and predict the safety situation. However, too much and fast updated data might even fatigue mates, and there is the problem of inconsistency among data from several types of devices. This paper introduce how can use information fusion technology for the situation awareness and prediction of navigation safety, and show the realization possibility of Intelligent Navigation Safety Information System through an information fusion example in a specific situation scenario.

  • In navigation, officers receive data about inside and outside of ship from several devices(ex, GPS / AIS / ECDIS / ARPA Radar / etc) in bridge, and use it to recognize and predict safety situations. However, observation work of a officer is still hard for a torrent of data from several devices, and the problem of inconsistent data among the devices. In previous research, we presented the conceptual model of Intelligent Navigation Safety Information System based on information fusion, and showed the example of the conceptual model using CF (Certainty Factor) expert system to solve this problem. The information fusion technology needs various reasoning skills, and CF expert system is not enough to express ambiguous or indefinite factors. In this paper, we propose the concept of an intelligent navigation information fusion using fuzzy expert system to describe the ambiguous factors, and show the validity of applying fuzzy expert system to the Navigation Safety Information System through the design and implementation of the proposed concept.

  • One of the most important problems in time-varying image sequences is the automatic target tracking. This paper proposes a position prediction and tracking technique of moving object using fuzzy prediction. First, the object is segmented from background of the image using accumulative difference image technique. Then centroid of the segmented object is extracted by using the centroid method, and we propose to apply variable size searching window to the object in order to increase the tracking performance. Also, non-linear prediction is required for efficient object tracking. Therefore, in this paper, fuzzy prediction method is proposed for predicting the location of the moving object at next frame. An experimental result shows that the proposed fuzzy prediction system tracks the moving object in stable under various conditions.

  • In this paper, study the substantial issues which occurs upon free flight environment by performing separation assurance under multiple conflict(over 3 Aircraft), recovery en route under the terms of time constrains and fixed way point after the conflict avoidance, correlations between conflict detection distance and separation assurance by utilizing Autonomous flight algorithm. Result of this experiment demonstrates that the extension of detection distance is advantageous to solution of separation assurance and enhancing of flight efficiency, choose to maneuver by applying time constrain terms and fixed way point according to the situation of conflict prediction in case of recovery maneuver after the conflict avoidance. And separation assurance can be solved by applying 2 degrees or more of bank angle. When choosing the optimal bank angle could be drastically improved flight efficiency.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust moving object tracking(MOT) method based on motion energy and prediction. MOT consists of two steps: moving object extraction step(MOES) and moving object tracking step(MOTS). For MOES, we use improved motion energy method. For MOTS, we predict the next location of moving object based on distance and direction information among previous instances, so that we can reduce the search space for correspondence. We apply the method to both synthetic and real world sequences and find that the method works well even in the presence of occlusion and disocclusion.

  • The requirements of disaster prevention have been constantly increasing on highly disaster frequency by Global warming and environmental destruction. The damage occur more highly, especially when it's on the localized change of weather. It requires that we have methods of disaster prevention locally. In this paper, we design and implement a breakwater disaster prevention system integrated wireless sensor technique for the shore breakwater of East Sea that is raised anxiety about an accident occurrence due to stormy weather. The provided disaster prevention system perceive the seriousness of the situation that is chance of that happening by the information of realtime remote situation and a prediction system so that it could be of some help to reduce the damage of disaster and the cost of recovery.

  • For using Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) in the civil aviation, it should satisfies the Required Navigation Performances(RNPs) which are defined by International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO). RNP defines the required accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity of each flight procedure. In order to guarantee user's integrity, user's protection level has to be overestimated. On the other hand, for improving user's availability, user's protection level has to be estimated tightly. Therefore protection level should be estimated as tight as possible while it assuring the user's integrity. This paper describes the current integrity function of Korean WAD GNSS test bed, and predicts the availability performance of Korean WAD GNSS by simulation.

  • This study have researched on feasibility of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA, which is simple useful evaluation tool for predictive factor of cardiovascular disease) to patients who have to travel along the sea for a long-period time and have difficulty in visiting medical institutions. We studied on the basis of total cholesterol value, which is nowadays widely used tool for predictive factor of cardiovascular disease, and also studied its association with BIA value via statistical analysis. Our result showed correlation with fat thickness of individual sites, and especially, fat thickness of left thigh showed high relation with total cholesterol value. This result shows that people who are in travel of long-period of time at sea are feasible of using BIA to evaluate changes of left thigh fat thickness as predictive factor for cardiovascular disease. Due to lack of advanced researches further studies should be done. And based on special circumstances in sea, more studies should be done to validity concerning this circumstances and accuracy of this evaluation tool.

  • The precipitable water vapor (PW) was estimated using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) from several GNSS stations within the Korean Peninsula. Nearby radiosonde sites covering the GNSS stations were used for the comparison and validation of test results. GNSS data recorded under typical and severe weather conditions were used to generalize our approach. Based on the analysis, we have confirmed that the derived PW values from the GNSS observables were well agreed on the estimates from the radiosonde observables within 10 mm level. Assuming that the GNSS observables could be a good weather monitoring tool, we further tested the performance of the current WAAS tropospheric delay model, UNB3, in the Korean Peninsula. Especially, the wet zenith delays estimated from the GNSS observables and from UNB3 delay model were compared. Test results showed that the modelled approach for the troposphere (i.e., UNB3) did not perform well especially under the wet weather conditions in the Korean Peninsula. It was suggested that a new model or a near real-time model (e.g., based on regional model from GNSS or numerical weather model) would be highly desirable for the Korean WA-DGNSS to minimize the effects of the tropospheric delay and hence to achieve high precision vertical navigation solutions.
