  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of surface polishing and fabrication method on the flexural strength of temporary restorative resin. Materials and Methods: Each of four fabrication methods was used to make 30 temporary restorative resin specimens and the specimens were divided into two groups depending on whether they were polished by mechanical polishing. Specimens were stored in 37℃ thermostat for 24 hours. Flexural strength was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). The data obtained through the experiment were analyzed with Two-way ANOVA, Tukey's HSD test and Paired t-test. Results: CAD/CAM milling group showed the highest flexural strength regardless of surface polishing. In decreasing order, the flexural strength of the other fabrication method group was as follows SLA 3D printing, DLP 3D printing, and Conventional method group. Conclusion: Surface polishing did not affect flexural strength of the temporary restorative resin (P > 0.05). However, there were statistically significant differences in flexural strength depending on fabrication method (P < 0.05).

  • We investigated critical temperature for early marginal transplanting (CT-EMT) of the contemporary japonica rice varieties in Korea through the field, pot seedling tray, and the phytotron experiments during 2020 to 2023. The lowest mean temperature for 10 days from transplanting (MT-10DFT) that resulted in earlier heading date was 12.4℃ and the highest MT-10DFT that did not show the earlier heading date was 12.0℃ in the field study when the MT-10DFT varied by changing transplanting date. The lowest MT-10DFT that induced the increased biomass but not the earlier heading date was 11.6℃ and the highest MT-10DFT that showed neither the increased biomass nor the earlier heading date was 11.4℃. Compared to the 10-day later transplanting, the dates of the first root development, initiation of the chlorophyll recovery, and the first tiller development were earlier when the MT-10DFT was 9.1℃ or higher, 10.5℃ or higher, and 11.6℃ or higher, respectively, in the pot seedling tray and field experiments. The earliness of the first tiller development was a practical index for the estimation of CT-EMT during the early growth stage of rice. The response of transplanted rice to temperature treatments with the diurnal change of 10℃ in the phytotron study was similar to that shown in the field study. The data shown for constant temperature without a diurnal change revealed that the extent of positive effects of high temperature at day-time was greater than the extent of negative effects of low temperature at night-time on the early growth of transplanted rice. It was concluded that the critical MT-10DFT for early marginal transplanting of japonica rice in the temperate environments was between 11.4 to 11.6℃ based on the plant growth and between 12.0 to 12.4℃ based on the plant development.

  • A study was conducted to examine the effect of application of Diazinon at different rates in submerged soil under the application of different N fertilizers; urea, ammonium sulfate and organic fertilizer(fermented chicken dung-sawdust mixture). The levels of Diazinon application were equivalent to zero, 350 mg a. i./ha, 700 mg a. i./ha and 1050 mg a. i./ha. To 100 gr of air-dry soil, 10 mg of N, $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ and different levels of Diazinon were mixed thoroughly and the soil was submerged in 100 ml of distilled water. The submerged soil was incubated at $30^{\circ}C$ for 50 days. Volatilied ammonia was measured at every 10 days. The amount of ammonia volatilization was greatest in urea treated soil, followed by organic fertilizer and it was the least in ammonium sulfate treated soil. The application of Diazinon at 700 mg a. i./ha increased the volatilization of ammonia greatly in the urea treated soil. Under other fertilizers, the effect of Diazinon application was not remarkable. The increase in the soil pH during the incubation period under different fertilizer treatments tended to increase ammonia volatilization.

  • In this study, the degradation properties by temperature stress of $Araldite^{(R)}$ rapid-curing epoxy resin used for inorganic cultural heritages, was identified. The tensile and tensile shear strength of durability decreased for 12,624 hours at temperatures of $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. In terms of stability of external stress and temperature, the slow-curing epoxy was superior to the rapid-curing epoxy, and cultural heritage conservation plans should therefore consider the strength and stress properties of restoration materials. Color differences increased for 12,624 hours at temperatures of $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$, and glossiness decreased. Both color and gloss stability were weak, which necessitates the improvement of optical properties. Thermal properties (weight loss, decomposition temperature, and glass transition temperature) of adhesives are linked to mechanical properties. Interfacial properties of the adherend and water vapor transmission rates of adhesives are linked to performance variation. For porous media (ceramics, brick, and stone), isothermal and isohumid environments are important. For outdoor artifacts on display in museums, changes in physical properties by exposure to varying environmental conditions need to be minimized. These results can be used as baseline data in the study of the degradation velocity and lifetime prediction of rapid-curing epoxy resin for the restoration of cultural heritages.

  • Epoxy adhesive was mainly used to combine different composite materials. Epoxy adhesive was a typical thermosetting resin that can be bonded by changing from a linear structure to a three-dimensional network structure by curing reaction of epoxy and hardener. The curing conditions of epoxy adhesive were different with different types of hardener such as mixing ratio, curing time, and temperature. These curing conditions affected to the adhesive property of epoxy adhesive. In industry, it was difficult to proceed the applying epoxy adhesive and combining two parts immediately. The adhesive property decreased by humidity and pre-curing of epoxy adhesive in waiting time between two processes. In this paper, the glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC) was combined with epoxy adhesive and adhesion property between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs was evaluated using single lap shear test. The different waiting times and humidity conditions were applied to epoxy adhesive in room temperature and adhesive property decreased as the waiting time increased. In small amount of humidity, the adhesive property increased because a small amount of moisture in the surroundings accelerated the curing reaction. In certain amount of humidity, however, the adhesion property decreased.

  • To use the earth heat for the pig housing, an underground heat exchanger has constructed in depth of 2.5m and 20m length. The temperature of the outlet air was max. 8 kelvin higher than that of inlet air in winter season. In spite of the -7$^{\circ}C$ outside temperature, it could keep the air temperature from the earth tube above zero degree. The heating performance was maximum in value of 3.25Wh/㎥ and average of 1.75Wh/㎥ by the airflow volume of 340㎥/h. The slope of relative humidity from outlet air has shown gentler than that of inlet air. By using the underground heat exchanger, it would be possible to prepare an relatively uniform relative humidity in the swine stalls. The temperatures on the earth, where PVC pipes are buried, have shown 10~12$^{\circ}C$ on March. This can reduce the difference between day and night temperature during this season by using the underground heat exchanger.

  • A laboratory experiment was conducted to find out the effect of organic fertilizer as Bio-com$^{(R)}$ on the changes of pH and Eh values, gas evolution, ammonification and nitrification, and microbial population with farmer's compost and refused mushroom compost in submerged paddy condition. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Application of compost and refused mushroom compost was increased the pH values than that of NPK alone. Organic fertilizer of Bio-com$^{(R)}$ showed the same results of the farmer's compost or refused mushroom compost. 2. Population of soil microbes as bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi was increased by application of compost, refused mushroom compost and Bio-com$^{(R)}$. Moreover, the results were pronounced more with the addition of NPK. 3. The application of Bio-com$^{(R)}$ was effected to the increase of the amount of $NO_3-N$ and the rate of nitrification than NPK, farmer's compost or refused mushroom compost. 4. The amounts of evolved gases as $CH_4$, $CO_2$, and $N_2O$ were not much differed with application of kinds of compost and NPK, but little increasing tendency was observed in application of NPK than that of NPK+kinds of compost.

  • Carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites are increasingly being used in a variety of industry applications, such as aircraft, automobiles, and ships because of their high specific stiffness and high specific strength. Aircraft are exposed to high temperatures and high humidity for a long duration during flights. CFRP materials of the aircraft can absorb water, which could decrease the adhesion strength of these materials and cause their volumes to change with variation in internal stress. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the characteristics of CFRP composites under actual conditions from the viewpoint of aircraft safety. In this study air-coupled ultrasonic testing (ACUT) was applied to the evaluation of water absorption properties of CFRP composites. CFRP specimens were fabricated and immersed in distilled water at $75^{\circ}C$ for 30, 60, and 120 days, after which their ultrasonic images were obtained by ACUT. The water absorption properties were determined by quantitatively analyzing the changes in ultrasonic signals. Further, shear strength was applied to the specimens to verify the changes in their mechanical properties for water absorption.
