Deployment of Yard Cranes Considering Storage Plans in Container Terminals (컨테이너 터미널에서 장치계획을 고려한 야드 크레인 배치 문제)

  • The main function of a container terminal is to load container freights into vessels and discharge them from vessels. The container terminal needs to utilize its resources effectively in order to improve the productivity of it. This study deals with the deployment model for yard cranes whose type is RMGC (rail mounted gantry crane). We develop a mathematical model for the deployment of yard cranes. The model considers not only the deployment but also the storage plans. It could be divided into two cases according to whether inter-block movements of yard cranes are allowed or not, during the same period Numerical examples are solved and analyzed to validate the model. Then, additional experiments are performed to compare the performance of the model with that of a previous model without the re-deployment of yard cranes.

The Procedure for Selecting the Alternatives for Developers of Container Cranes (컨테이너크레인 개발자를 위한 대안 선정 절차)

  • Container terminals keenly compete with one another because of the continuous increase of container flows and the appearance of large-sized vessels. Major cargo handling equipment manufacturers are interested in the development of new conceptual equipment to greatly increase its productivity. In this study, a two-phase procedure is suggested for selecting the optimal development alternatives, when various development alternatives for container cranes are given. The first phase removes the alternatives that violate essential requirements and the second phase selects final alternatives by the evaluation of experts and the linear assignment method. Finally, a case applying the procedure is provided.

  • The objective of this paper is to forecast the port productivity of container terminal to response very large container ship. In general, the productivity of container terminal is evaluated by productivity of stevedoring system including container cranes, yard cranes, and yard tractors. Therefore, we analyzed the current productivity of container crane as port productivity in Pusan ports and forecast net productivity and gross productivity of container cranes to handle the containers cf very large container ship. In order to improve the productivity, we summarize alternatives of stevedoring system and operation system.

  • This study was performed to analyze the operation system of transfer crone to improve the reality of yard operation roles in container terminal and present the applicable method of operation rules to apply the operation priority. And we derived the procedure to estimate the maximum number of waiting truck based on the waiting of truck and the occupancy of driving lane in yard, and analyzed the constraint state of space. To solve the space constraint, we provided a multi-job principle to define the space resource and described the solution and sequence diagram for the principle.

An Optimal Control of Container Crane Using Evolution Strategy (진화전략을 이용한 컨테이너 크레인의 최적제어에 관한 연구)

  • During the operation of crane system in container yard, the objective is to transport the load to a goal position as quick as possible without rope oscillation. The container crane is generally operated by an expert operator, but recently an automatic control system with high speed and rapid transportation is required. Therefore, we developed an optimal controller which has to control the crane system with disturbances. In this paper, we present a design of optima 2-DOF PID controller for the control of gantry crane which has to control swing motion and trolley position. We used evolution strategy(ES) to tune the parameters of 2-DOF PID controller. It was compared with general PID controller. The computer simulations show that the proposed method has better performances than the other method.

  • 자동화 컨테이너 터미널의 장치장 재정돈이란 장치장의 컨테이너를 장치장 크레인의 유휴 시간을 이용해 적하 작업 효율을 높일 수 있는 위치로 재배치하는 작업을 의미한다. 이때 재정돈에 사용한 수 있는 크레인의 유휴시간이 제한적이므로, 본 논문에서는 전체 컨테이너 중 일부를 재정돈 대상 컨테이너로 선택하여 재정돈 계획을 수립하는 방안을 제안한다. 재정돈 컨테이너 선택 시 사용된 선택 기준과 한 번에 선택하는 컨테이너의 범위에 따라 네 가지 재정돈 대상 컨테이너 선택 방안을 제시하였으며, 선택된 재정돈 컨테이너를 대상으로 휴리스틱 알고리즘을 이용해 크레인의 작업 계획을 수립하였다. 시뮬레이션 시스템을 이용한 실험 결과 유휴 시간이 제한되어 있는 경우 재정돈 대상 컨테이너를 선택 후 재정돈 계획을 수립하는 방안이 전체 컨테이너를 대상으로 재정돈 계획을 수립 후 주어진 유휴시간 동안 해당 계획에 따라 재정돈을 수행하는 방안보다 더 좋은 적하 작업 효율을 보임을 확인하였다.

  • 자동화 컨테이너 터미널의 생산성을 향상시키기 위해서는 안벽크레인의 작업 지연 시간을 최소화하는 것이 중요하다. 안벽크레인의 작업 지연 시간은 이송 차량들이 효율적으로 주행하여 제 시간에 필요한 위치에 컨테이너를 운반함으로써 단축이 가능하다. 이송차량의 주행 경로는 사전에 결정된 레이아웃에서 최단 거리, 최단 시간 경로 등의 라우팅 방법을 통해 결정된다. 주행 경로 레이아웃은 안벽크레인의 작업이 진행됨에 따라 안벽 크레인의 위치, 작업 물량 및 병목지점이 변화하므로 동적으로 조정한 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 안벽 크레인의 위치 변화에 따라 주행 경로 레이아웃을 동적으로 최적화하는 방안을 제안한다. 제안방안의 효율성은 시뮬레이션 실험을 통해 검증하였다.

Robust Controller Design of Container Cranes for Improving the Stevedoring Efficiency in Port (항만효율향상을 위한 컨테이너 크레인의 강인한 제어기 설계)

  • In this paper we present an interpolation-LQ control technique which tunes continuously the controller gain by interpolating the gains of sub-LQ controllers. The proposed controller design technique is applied to the container crane system for simulations. Several cases of simulations are carried out in order to prove the control effectiveness and robustness. The simulation results of the proposed controller are compared with those of LQ controllers. The results showed better control performance than those of LQ controllers.

  • Nowadays, vessel's size is tending to bigger, Therefore port facilities are developed according to this trend, which has been shown in the competition of Hub-Port among the main ports such as Port of Busan and Port of Shanghai. However there are the limited number of large containerships more specifically so 70% of the total ships calling at Busan Port are small and medium sized ships which are less than 20,000 ton As a result, it is necessary to consider the handling facilities of these ships which had been disregarded The big size of facilities increases handling cost bemuse of high investment so it is possible for small and medium sized ships to have disadvantages financially and avoid calling. In this paper, we estimate the propriety of utilization of crane and labor according to the size of vessels after analyzing time value cost, reflecting the size of vessels, size and number of crane and labor structure, and container handling cost value.
