Systematic Classification of Container Ports in European Union Countries (유럽지역 컨테이너항만의 체계적 분류에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this research is to classify the 21 container ports in European Union countries using components of competition and co-operation under the well-known methodology, FCM(Fuzzy C-Mean). Through this approach, those 21 ports were classified into six poet groups, and also membership degree of each port within the six port groups were suggested. As results, Rotterdam which positioned Group C, is turned out the most competitive independent port. The next competitive group is found out as Group B which consisted of port of Hamburg and Antwerp. In another point of view, Group A and B which have six and four ports respectively, were needed to search the co-operation strategies. Finally, the lowest competitive port groups in the targeted area were shown as Group D and F.

  • 항만물류산업은 교역과 부가가치 창출, 높은 경제적 효과를 지닌 중요한 산업으로 그 영역이 점차 확대되고 있다. 항만물류산업의 효율화는 국가 경쟁력을 증대할 수 있는 방안 중 하나이며, 다수의 선행연구에서 그 영향에 대해 연구가 진행되었다. 본 연구의 산업 분류의 기준이 되는 한국표준산업분류의 9차 개정을 활용하고, 2010년 최초 시행된 경제총조사 자료를 활용하여 울산지역을 대상으로 항만물류산업이 지역경제에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 우리나라 5대 항만도시간 항만물류산업을 비교하였다.

A Study on Operation Efficiency of Container Port by Comparison of Similar Ports (동종 항만군 분류를 통한 컨테이너항만의 운영효율화 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The Principle objective of this paper is to introduce a systematic approach to identifying similar container ports in Asia. For this, it analyses data on port facilities, port facility availability, port service level total container throughput, and economic index, by using Multidimentional Scaling (MDS) method. Based on the analysis it identifies five groupings of similar container ports in Asia within which Port comparison can be justifiably made, evaluates a present position of five groupings on the basis of factors used to compare container ports in Asia ; and finally proposes policy implications for operation efficiency of Pusan container port in comparison with Kaohsiung Port. The major implication is that both the Kaosuing and the Pusan port have to strengthen port facility to attract more traffic, and particularly, Pusan Port has to reinforce the number of berth, total length of berth. and yard areas.

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 항만보안 효율성을 측정하기 위한 사전연구로 항만보안에 있어서 중요 평가항목을 선정하고 평가하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 문헌조사 및 관계자들의 인터뷰를 통해 평가항목을 선정하였고, 이들 항목을 4개의 대분류와 12개의 중분류로 분류하였다. 다음으로 해양수산부 공무원, 항만공사 직원, 학계 관계자들로 구성된 전문가들의 설문조사를 통해 평가항목에 대하여 AHP 기법을 이용하여 중요도를 산출하였다. 상위 수준의 중요도 산출결과, 해양수산부 공무원 그룹과 항만공사 직원 그룹은 시설 지원 항목의 중요도가 높았으며 학계 관계자 그룹의 경우 인력예산 지원 항목의 중요도가 높았다. 하위 수준 항목의 종합중요도 분석 결과, 해양수산부 공무원 그룹과 항만공사 직원 그룹에서는 항만 내 통합시스템 구축 및 유관기관 간의 협조를 통한 운영시스템 강화의 순위가 가장 높았으나, 학계 관계자 그룹의 경우 보안인력들의 처우개선이 가장 높은 순위로 나타났다.

  • Container port development in Korea seems to be based on the policy of balanced regional development rather than demand and supply theory. The problem of overcapacity and low utilization faced by several ports such as Kwangyang, Ulsan New Port and Phohang Youngil New Port can back up this. Furthermore as some ports are located closely sharing the same domestic hinterland the revitalization of the ports is not easy resulting in wasting resources with both regional and national aspect. This study, therefore, aims at providing an empirical results for the container port classification of the 5 ports such as Busan, Kwangyang, Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Ulsan. For this several time series data for the ports such as transshipment containers, import and export containers, origin and destination countries, and local origin and destination are analysed. Based on the results of the analysis the 5 container ports are classified together with their practical roles, and the functional overlap of the port including Phohang was analysed.

  • Due to the changes of shipping and logistic environment, Asian ports today face severe competition. To be a mega-hub port, Asian ports have achieved a big scale development. For these reasons, it has been widely recognized as an important study to analyze and evaluate characteristics of Asian ports, from the standpoint of Korea where Busan Port is located. Although some previous studies have been reported, most of them have been beyond the scope of Asian ports and analyzed the world's major ports; moreover, the studied ports have been about the ports which are well known from the previous research and reports. So, most studies is unlikely to be used as substantial indicators from the perspective of Busan Port. In addition. most of the existing studies have used hierarchical evaluation algorithm for port ranking, such as AHP (analytical hierarchy process) and clustering analysis. However, these two methods have fundamental weaknesses from the algorithm perspective. The aim of this study is to classify major Asian ports based on competitiveness level. Especially. in order to overcome serious problem of the existing studies, major Asian ports were analyzed by using objective indicators. and Fuzzy C-Means algorithm, which alleviates the weakness of the clustering method. It was found that 10 ports of 16 major Asian ports have their own phases and were classified into 4 port groups. This result implies that some ports have higher potential as ports to lead some zones in Asia. Based on those results. present status and future direction of Busan port were discussed as well.

  • Major advanced ports around the world are preparing for environmental regulations such as increased efficiency of ports and low emission of pollutants in ports by utilizing fourth industrial technologies and ICT technologies such as AI, big data, self-driving cars and connected cars. It is also investing in developing fully unmanned terminals to solve the problem of workforce reduction caused by avoidance of 3D industries. However, the introduction of advanced technology is being delayed in domestic ports, which has led to a drop in port efficiency. In addition, port safety accidents have also occurred frequently, seriously affecting port marketing. Thus, the characteristics and types of each container terminal in Korea were analyzed and the factors for introducing autonomous cooperative driving were classified into five section factors and 15 division factors. Hierarchically classified factors will be surveyed on workers working in shipping lines, port construction, container terminals and related ministries.

  • This paper aims to presents a systematic procedure for the development of construction technology roadmap, which can consider the offshore wind farm on port. Then the weight among the large/medium/small classified construction technology has identified through the AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) approach using FGI(Focus Group Interview) and questionnaire study. Based on the priority for classified construction technology a construction technology roadmap for port offshore wind farm was also developed. The technology roadmap suggests the time frame(20 years, from 2016 to 2036) to complete R&D work for the classified construction technology of port offshore wind farm. Such construction technology roadmap can be utilized as a milestone in setting up the R&D strategy in the green port construction industry.
