Forms of Governance and Firm Value in the Korean Logistics Industry (물류기업의 지배구조가 기업가치에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper investigates whether managerial ownership and foreign ownership have impacts on firm value, using a sample of logistics firms listed on the Korea Stock Exchange between 2008 and 2014. In the Korean economy, family-controlled business groups, known as chaebol, constitute a unique governance system. To acquire investments from controlling shareholders, a logistics firm is likely to be included in family-controlled business groups. Since reform of the governance structure of logistics firms in the South Korea enables shareholder value to be maximized, we analyzed ownership effects on firm value using pooled ordinary least squares. Empirical results showed that there was a significant positive relation between managerial ownership and firm value. This study also found that there was a significant positive relation between foreign ownership and firm value. We thus show that both managerial ownership and foreign ownership can protect shareholders by positively affecting firm values.

산업단지의 수출경쟁력 향상을 위한 해상물류비용 절감방안 연구

  • 우리나라 산업단지의 수출경쟁력은 중국 등 주변 국가들의 원가에 상대적으로 취약하다. 수출경쟁력 차원에서 원가를 구성하는 항목들은 여러가지가 있겠으나, 원가절감이 가능한 항목은 그리 많지 않다. 본 연구에서는 국내 수출기업들의 수출경쟁력 향상을 위해 해상물류비용의 절감이 가능한 방안을 탐색하여 연구하였다. 특히 해외에서 소금과 같은 살화물을 수입하고 공선으로 나가 다시 수입하는 벌크선의 경우에는 국내에서 공선상태로 나가는 선박을 대상으로 컨테이너 적재가 가능한 겸용선으로 개조하여 운항시에 컨테이너로 수출하는 해상물류비용을 낮출 수 있다. 따라서 산업단지의 수출기업들이 이를 활용하면 해상물류비용을 획기적으로 낮출수 있으므로 수출경쟁력을 향상시킬수 있고, 이러한 절감방안 모델은 정부, 항만운영사업자, 수출기업 및 하역사업자 모두에게 도움이 되는 모델로 해상물류비용을 절감하기 위해 충분한 연구 가치가 있다.

  • 일반적으로 국내 기업의 매출액 대비 물류비 비율은 미국, 일본 등 선진국에 비해 높기 때문에 여전히 물류관리 수준 향상을 위한 많은 노력이 필요한 상황이다. 그러나 우리나라는 물류관리 수준 향상을 위해서 가장 중요한 요소인 해운항만물류인력이 부족한 상황이며 수급현황을 살펴볼 때 더욱 부족해질 전망이다. 그래서 정부는 2005년부터 '해운항만물류전문인력 양성사업'을 시행하고 있는 상황이며, 인력양성의 주축인 대학 역시 관련 학과를 개설하며 해운항만물류인력의 부족 현상은 점차 완화될 것으로 기대된다. 이러한 상황에서 해운항만물류인력 양성의 구조적 측면을 살펴봄으로써 지금까지의 양성 현황에 대해 살펴보고 앞으로의 양성 방향에 관해 연구해 볼 필요성에 따라 본 연구를 진행하였다.

A Survey on the Outsourcing Usage of Logistics Service Users in China -Focused on Area of Shanghai- (중국 물류서비스 이용자들의 아웃소싱 관행에 관한 조사연구)

  • This paper analyses the results of the survey questionnaires which are made for logistics services users in Shanghai, China. Based an 158 valid users' responses, the study results show that the typical outsourcing logistics users prefer to set up long term relationship with providers and buy services from multiple providers. Most users are satisfied with their providers and believe that outsourcing logistics services has led to positive impact on their customer satisfaction, logistics service levels and revenue improvement. Price levers, core competences, reputation are critical in the selection of an outsourcing logistics provider for users in this study. This study indicates that the market for 3PL services in China has a reasonable potential fur further development, though 3PL practices are still at a nascent stage in China. This paper presents full details and implications of the results of th£ survey and then provides some helpful suggestion for th£ development of Chinese logistics industry and Chinese logistics companies.

The Influences of Certification of Green Logistics Company on Performance (녹색물류기업 인증이 녹색물류성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims at analyzing the influences of Certification of Green Logistics Company on performance and suggesting the implications. Based on previous studies which were related to certificate system of green logistics company and logistics performance, this study established research model and hypothesis, and surveyed the employees who worked in the field of logistics. To analyze the data, factor analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model were applied. The results are as follows. The object management of green logistics gives significantly positive effect to logistics performance and environment performance. The measurement of logistics energy and green gas give meaningful positive effect to logistics performance, environment performance and resource performance. The conversion of green logistics does not give significantly positive effect to any performances. And the effect management of green logistics has significant influence on firm performance.

  • In the global competition environment, companies are using international logistics centers located in ports and airports to reduce costs and improve logistics services through the rationalization of logistics networks. By examining how the characteristics of shipper companies affect the utilization of the international logistics center, this study aims to suggest implications for the desirable operation and utilization of the international logistics center. As a result, the factors that utilize the international logistics center were extracted into three main factors of visibility, addition, and responsiveness. The case of addition was found to be the size of the firm and the type of product being handled. The company's characteristics in terms of responsiveness were found to be product type. In addition, the variable affecting the willingness to use the international logistics center was the period of use of the logistics center.

  • Domestic large group logistics company(2nd-party logistics company)has made inroads on large portion of domestic logistics market, whereby the domestic 3rd-party logistics market has been shrinking every year to a level of 30% or so. Global logistics enterprise is steadily increasing 3rd-party global market portion while Local one facing with stagnating growth has very minimal level in the global market share. Fortunately new government strengthening policy change toward local SME and also recent UN's supplying line enlargement to Asia regions are positive factors which make Local SME very positive environments to advance to UN procurement logistics market. On this occasion, the purpose of this paper is to help local logistics company perform successful bidding through study of UN-transportation case and also suggest in SWOT analysis a segmented measure and support policy between Industry, Academia, Government and Institute.

Factors Affecting the Choice of International Freight Forwarders for Korean Shippers (국내 화주의 국제물류주선기업 선정요인)

  • A freight forwarder plays an important role in global trade and logistics by connecting worldwide nodes such as shippers, ports, and airports. Most freight forwarders in Korea are small and do not provide a sophisticated and professional service. This study aims to develop a strategy for Korean freight forwarders to the world-class 3PLs which they have to establish the strategy on how shippers select their freight forwarders. We conducted a higher-order factor analysis using the PLS-SEM techniques on the SmartPLS program to confirm the importance and significance of each factor, while considering relevant previous research. The findings suggested that shippers chose their freight forwarders for international logistics activities primarily by the reliability and forwarder service factors. Therefore, freight forwarders in Korea have to strengthen confidence and widen their service to shippers in order to become leading logistics companies.

  • When comparing Korea logistics industry with advanced nations, in size, service scope, network and others, our domestic logistics industry is falling behind, and this problem will deter the efforts of South Korea becoming the logistics hub nation in North-east Asia. This study will focus on current conditions of th foreign and domestic logistics, presents policies and plans which will advance logistics industry in South Korea. The results of this study will promote logistics industry in Korea and attain the aim of being a Logistics Hub nation in North-east Asia.

  • 중국은 지난 1978년 개혁개방정책을 실시한 이후 연평균 9%를 상회하는 경제성장률을 기록하였고 이는 중국발 수출입화물의 급격한 증가로 이어졌다. 그러나 폭증하는 수출입화물에도 불구하고 중국은 항만인프라의 부족으로 인근 부산항을 이용해 왔고 이것이 세계적인 부산항으로 부상하는데 결정적 기여를 했다는 것은 사설이다. 그러나 부산항이 처리한 환적화물의 경우 2002년에 32.5%였던 환적화물 증가세가 2005년에는 8.1%로 낮아졌으며, 2006년에도 전년대비 0.6%로 기록하면서 성장세가 크게 둔화되고 있다. 이 같은 상황에 처하게 되자 우리나라는 2006년 1월 19일 진해신항 개항과 더불어 기존의 '동북아 중심 국가 추진전략'과 병행하여 '국제물류 네트워크 강화를 통한 고부가가치 물류 허브화 전략'을 수립하여 시행하고 있다. 이 전략은 앉아서 환적화물을 기다리던 수동적인정책에서 벗어나 물류체계의 혁신을 통한 물류 네트워크 확대/ 적극적인 대외 협력 등을 통해 우리 항만이 기업과 환적화물의 안정적인 유치기반을 조성하는 한편, 물류와 금융, 건설, IT 등 관련 산업과의 연계를 통해 우리 물류기업이 글로벌 기업으로 성장하고 세계로 진출할 수 있는 진해신항의 환적화물 유치방안을 마련하여 우리나라 경제성장의 동력이자 미래 경제 전략의 중요한 밑거름이 될 수 있다.
