  • The tracking radars in NARO space center are precious, long-range tracking systems for tracking the launch vehicle (KSLV-1) and transmitting TSPI (Time, Space and Position Information) data to MCC (Mission Control Center). Because TSPI data from tracking radars to MCC are important information for the launch mission and flight safety control, TSPI data are required to be more accurate. In this paper, we analyzed theoretically the required specification of the random noise error in tracking radar and verified the real random noise error. In this analysis, we evaluated the TSPI data of several flight tests performed in NARO space center.

  • This paper dealt with the development of the Framework for Multidisciplinary Design Optimization for the rotorcraft design concept and the building process of KHP(Korea Helicopter Project) - SDM(Simulation Data Management) system to manage various analysis data, which are used in the rotorcraft development phase. KHP-SDM RMDO(Rotorcraft Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) framework, which applied optimization modules of KHP-SDM and integrated the developed Multidisciplinary analysis modules, was constructed in the KHP-SDM. The results of the rotorcraft conceptual design using KHP-SDM RMDO showed that the framework was evaluated to be successfully constructed.

  • This study presents the numerical investigation of the trajectory of rocket launched from a helicopter. The nonlinear mathematical model of armed configuration of UH-60 helicopter was developed while Hydra 70 unguided rocket was modeled to simulate the rocket behavior. The effects of various inflow models on the launched rocket trajectory are obtained. Similarly, rocket launch simulation was performed to determine the unsafe flight maneuver condition where the rocket trajectory is critically close to the helicopter main rotor tip path plane.

  • In this paper, an impulsive rendezvous problem by using minimum energy of spacecraft in different orbits is addressed. In particular, the orbits considered in this paper are the general orbits including the elliptic orbit, while most of the orbits considered in the literature have been restricted within co-planar or circular orbits. The constraints for solving this optimization problem are the Kepler's equation formulated with the universal variable, and the final position and velocity of two spacecraft. Also, the Lagrange coefficients, sometimes called as f and g solution, are used to describe the orbit transfer. The proposed method technique is demonstrated through numerical simulation by considering the minimum energy, and both the minimum energy and the wait time, respectively. Finally, it is also verified by comparing with the Hohmann transfer known as the minimum energy trajectory. Although a closed-form solution cannot be obtained, it shows that the suggested technique can provide a new insight to solve various orbital transfer problems.

  • Flight test data visualization functions can improve an understanding of flight test results, test procedures, and the performance of a flight vehicle after flight tests. FlyingView was developed for researchers to analyse flight test data in a 3D virtual environment. It also can display X-Y plots using flight test data. It was developed and applied to flight tests of an air-to-ground weapon system of ADD. This paper describes the capabilities of FlyingView.

  • The demand for the development of atmospheric entry vehicles, dealing with reentry and solar-system planet exploration, is increasing. Generally, atmospheric drag and heating accompany the entry into atmospheric air. Accordingly, the selection of the thermal protection materials and the design and application of the thermal protection system are very important. In this paper, the atmospheric entry environment and the type and characteristics of the thermal protection materials are discussed. The design and application status of a thermal protection system for spaceplanes are described.

  • Due to the small size and weight of micro aerial vehicle (MAV), only miniaturized MEMS type sensors are applicable for MAV autonomous flight system. In this paper, we propose a accelerometer and gyro mixing algorithm to improve an attitude performance of MEMS type sensors. The performance of the proposed mixing algorithm is compared with the performance of fuzzy-based mixing algorithm through simulation. The simulation results show that the attitude compensation method through the attitude compensation has better performance than the fuzzy-based mixing method for MAV attitude estimation.
