Studies of Growth according to the Concentration of Mineral Elements of Medium in Cyanophyte SG63 (배양액의 염도에 따른 남조식물 (SG 63)의 생장 연구)

  • The characteristic of Cyanophyte genus SG63 is similar to that of Aphanot hece sp. The optimal growth was found with the concentration of NaCI and $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ on the culture medium. The most optimal condition is 56%0 of NaCl (S4 medium) and 20%0 of $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ (M2 medium). The synthesis of chlorophyll a, phycocyanin and soluble proteins is affected by the concentration of the two mineral elements in culture. Especially, the content of chlorophyll a and phycocyanin decreases on the most highly saline medium. The identified principal carotenoids are ${\beta}-carotene$, echinenone, zeaxanthin and myxoxanthophyll. The rates of concentration of protein/chlorophyll a and phycocyanin/chlorophyll a are low on the S4 medium. Inversely, these rates are the highest on the M2 medium. Accordingly, the high concentration of $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ provoke the synthesis of phycocyanin and total proteins.oteins.

  • Lithium-Carbon Intercalation Compounds(Li-CICs) have been synthesized from various carbon ma-terials by use of the modified stainless steel two-bulbs methods. These compounds had various colours by structural character of starting materials. The synthesized Li-CICs were identified to stage formation process by X-ray diffraction data. At these results, well-oriented natural graphite and graphite fiber are formed lower stages(Stage 1, Stage 2), but poor-oriented carbon fiber and petroleum cokes are also formed higher stages(Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5). And when we compared with measured d value and calculated d value, these values agreed with each other. But poor-oriented carbon materials are some difference from them. The stage stability and energy stage of Li-CICs were obtained by UV/VIS Spectrophotometric data. X-ray diffraction and UV/VIS Spectrophotometric data suggested that well-oriented carbon materials has distingushible curve between energy and reflectance. In these results, we know that many charge carriers between carbon layers are related to concentration of intercalants. And then, this paper also provides information on high efficiency energy storing materials at intercalation process of Li-CICs.

  • A Fe-containing mesoporous silica (Fe-MCM-41) in which part of Si in the framework was replaced by Fe(Si-O-Fe) has been successfully prepared using $Fe^{3+}$ salt by a direct synthesis route. Physical properties of the material were characterized by XRD, $N_2$ adsorption, SEM/TEM, UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies. Fe-MCM-41 exhibited high catalytic activity in phenol hydroxylation using $H_2O_2$ as oxidant, giving phenol conversion of ca. 60% at $50^{\circ}C$ [phenol : $H_2O_2$ = 1:1, water solvent]. Fe-MCM-41 was also applied to the growth of CNTs, utilizing a thermal-CVD reactor using acetylene gas, which demonstrated that multi-wall CNTs could be prepared efficiently using the Fe-MCM-41 catalyst.

Riboflavin Status Influences the Biosynthesis of Flavin Peptides and Related Enzyme Activities in Rat Liver Mitochondria (리보플라빈 결핍이 쥐간의 미토콘드리아의 플라빈 펩티드와 관련된 효소 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effeds of riboflavin defidency on the biosynthesis of flavin pepddes and levels of flavoenzymes and catecholamines have been investigated. The percentage of 14C. riboflavin radioactivity formed in mitochondria appeared to increase up to 2 weeks but started to decline at 3 weeks. A significant increase of radioactivity incorporation into mitochondria and into trypsin-digestable plus trypsin-non-digestibie flavin peptides was detected in riboflavin-deficient animals. More than 35% of incorporation was observed at the end of the first week and 160% higher incorporation was observed in fiavin peptide after the second week. Activities of MAO and succinate dehydrogenase were affected markedly by riboflavin status whereas those of acetyichoilnesterase were not affected. Riboflavin defidency also brought about marked reductions in levels of epineplrrine and norepinephrine. it is concluded that the levels of flavin peptides, MAO and succinate dehydrogenase, and catecholamines were affected significanily by the availability of riboflavin and in particular the duration of its depiction.

The identification of amethyst origins by using FT-IR, UV-VIS spectrum analysis (ET-IR, UV-VIS 분광분석을 통한 자수정의 산지감별)

  • Many amethysts of different origins such as South America, Aftrica, and Asia were compared. According to ICP-AES analysis, the colorizing elements were Fe, Cr, Cu, and Co. Amethysts from South America showed higher concentrations of the elements. UV- VIS analysis showed that both natural and synthetic amethysts were characterized by the higher absorption at 350 nm and 550 nm wavelength. The natural amethysts had lower permeability than that of the synthetic amethysts. According to FT-IR analysis, the synthetic amethysts were distinguished from the natural amethysts in that they had a typical absorption band of $3543cm^{-1}$. The amethyst from South America showed strong absorption bands of $3584cm^{-1}\;and\;3435cm^{-1}$, and African amethyst had absorption bands of $3299cm^{-1}\;and\;3196cm^{-1}$. $3381cm^{-1}$ absorption band was shown strongly for Asian origins.

Synthesis of Poly(vinyl pivalate) Telomer Through Telomerization of Vinyl Pivalate (피발산 비닐의 텔로머화반응을 이용한 폴리(피발산 비닐) 텔로머 합성)

  • Poly(vinyl pivalate)(PVPi) telomer containing bifunctional end groups was synthesized through radical telomerization of vinyl pivalate. The number-average molecular weight ($\bar{M}$n) of the synthesized telomers was investigated by GPC, $^1$H-NMR, and viscometric methods. PVPi telomers having a number-average molecular weight ($\bar{M}$n) of 2400~1300 g/mol were obtained. In order to control the molecular weight of telomers, chain transfer constants ($C_s$) of telogen ($CCl_4$) were determined by using the Mayo equation and simulation, which were 1.15, 1.16, and 1.18 at 40, 50, and 6$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. $\bar{M}$n of the synthesized telomers at 6$0^{\circ}C$ were between 5100 and 5400 g/mol at conversion of increasing from 18 to 72%. Those are corresponding to simulation results.

  • The chlorination kinetics of synthetic rutile prepared by selective chlorination of ilmenite with Cl2 and CO gas mixture were studied in a fluidized bed. Th e effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, and the ratio of Cl2 and CO partial pressure ($p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$) on the conversion rate of TiCl4 were investigated. The conversion rate of TiC4 was low under the high $p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$ conditions. Moreover, it was considered that the partial pressure of CO gas was more effective than that of Cl2 gas when comparing the stoichiometric conversion rate and experimental results of high CO partial pressure. Considering the porous structure of particles, the rate controlling step of the chlorination of synthetic rutile was determined to be chemical reaction and the activation energy was calculated as 53.77 kJ/mol.

  • Elastomeric bearings composed of flexible rubber materials and steel reinforcement plates are widely used for seismic retrofit of bridges due to their excellent vertical stiffness and flexible lateral stiffness. Especially, it has the advantages of simple construction and low cost. Chloroprene rubber, a type of rubber material, has greater resistance to aging than natural rubber, but its performance is also degraded due to various deterioration factors. Although these aging characteristics are not reflected in the seismic design standards and seismic performance evaluation guidelines, it is reasonable to reflect this when related studies are accumulated. For chloroprene rubber, accelerated heat aging test was performed with variables of heating temperatures and exposure time to analyze shear characteristics. As aging progresses the maximum shear stress and shear strain decrease. Also, the shear stiffness is greatly increased at the same shear strain.

Electrochemical Performances of Spherical Silicon/Carbon Anode Materials Prepared by Hydrothermal Synthesis (수열 합성법으로 제조된 구형의 실리콘/탄소 음극소재의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this study, a spherical carbon composite material containing nano-silicon was synthesized using hydrothermal synthesis, and coated with petroleum pitch to prepare an anode material to investigate the electrochemical characteristics. Hydrothermal synthesis was performed by varying molar concentration, and the pitch was coated using THF as an organic solvent to prepare a composite material. The physical properties of anode materials were analyzed using SEM, EDS, XRD and TGA, and the electrochemical performances were investigated by cycle, C-rate, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance tests in 1.0 M LiPF6 electrolyte (EC : DMC : EMC = 1 : 1 : 1 vol%). The pitch-coated silicon/carbon composite (Pitch@Si/C-1.5) with sucrose of 1.5 M showed a spherical shape. In addition, a high initial capacity of 1756 mAh/g, a capacity retention ratio of 82% after 50 cycles, and an excellent rate characteristic of 81% at 2 C/0.1 C were confirmed.

Synthesis and Self-healing Properties of Waterborne Polyurethane Based on Polycarbonate and Polyether Polyol (폴리카보네이트계 및 폴리에테르계 폴리올 기반 자가치유 기능 수분산 폴리우레탄 합성과 특성)

  • In this study, self-healable waterborne polyurethane (SH-WPU) as shoes and coating materials with self-healable disulfide functionalities was synthesized by mixing polyether polyol to impart excellent durability and heat resistance and polycarbonate polyol to impart excellent mechanical properties. The synthesized SH-WPU was characterized by fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and physical and self-healing properties were confirmed through universal testing machine (UTM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements. Tensile strength and hardness were increased and elongation was decreased by using polycarbonate polyol. In addition, as a result of comparison of thermal properties, thermal stability has been increased as the content of polycarbonate polyol increased. The healing efficiency showed the highest efficiency when poly(tetramethylene ether)glycol : polycarbonate polyol = 0.75 : 0.25, and it was confirmed that the damaged part was healed through surface observation using a microscope and SEM.
