Study About the Perception of Korean Parents' Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Their Children (영유아를 가진 부모들의 보완대체요법에 대한 인식 조사연구)

  • 목표 : 본 연구는 인천 지역에 사는 24~60개월 영유아를 가진 부모들의 보완대체요법에 대한 인식을 조사한 연구로, 보완대체요법 활용을 통한 한방과의 연계에 대한 가능성을 타진하기 위해 연구되었다. 방법 : 박지현(2007)이 사용한 질문지를 본 연구에 맞게 수정 보완하여 사용하였다. 수집한 자료는 SPSS 12를 사용하여 분석하였다. 결과 : 1) 영유아를 둔 한국의 모든 어머니는 자녀의 건강에 관심이 많았으며, 올바른 생활 습관을 갖게 하는 것이 가장 중요하다고 생각하였다. 2) 실제 80% 정도의 부모가 자녀에게 보완대체요법을 제공하였으며, 주로 예방차원에서 제공하기 때문에 질병이 발생하기 전에 사용을 하였다. 3) 보완대체요법은 질병이 발생했을 때 사용을 하지만, 보완대체요법의 사용은 주로 병원치료와 병행하는 경우가 많았다. 4) 직접 보완대체요법을 사용한 부모들의 80% 정도는 긍정적인 반응을 보였고, 이들 중 81% 정도는 다시 사용을 하겠다는 반응을 보였다. 결론 : 영유아 부모들은 건강 증진을 위한 보완대체의학에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 한의학 영역에서 영유아 부모들에게 자녀의 건강을 효과적으로 증진시킬 수 있는 전문적인 의료지식뿐만 아니라 이들이 한의학에 접근할 수 있는 다양한 방법을 고안할 필요성을 제시하고 있다.

  • Korea is rapidly entering into an aging society, and an increasing socioeconomic burden related to prostate cancer is inevitable. Therefore, the need for early detection and accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer is becoming increasingly critical. Ideally, a biopsy should accurately detect cancers using a minimum number of cores. However, as prostate cancer is often indistinguishable on imaging, image-guided targeted biopsies alone are insufficient for diagnosis. After decades of trial and error, the diagnosis of prostate cancer relies heavily on systematic biopsy, which is characterized by random and repetitive core acquisition throughout the gland. This review will provide an overview of the historical aspects of prostate cancer diagnosis. Moreover, the review will also address the general considerations involved in prostate biopsy, and discuss the periprocedural management of the patients.

Dose Distributions in a Shielded Vaginal Cylinder using a HDR Co-60 Source (고선량 Co-60 선원이용시 차폐된 질 원주기구의 영향)

  • The present work is determine to the dose distribution reduced by the insertion of a shielded into a vaginal cylinder around a $\^$60/CO source in brachytherapy, and to the source calibration. It was investigated by measuring the relative dose around a 2.5cm diameter shielded vaginal cylinder in a polystyrene phantom by use of a ionization chamber. Measurements were made with the cylinder unshielded and 0.55cm thick 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shields inserted. Also, the dose distribution compared measurement value with calculation value according to the device manufacturer and the multiple-divided dose tables. A reduction in dose was observed on the unshielded side of the cylinder which increased with distance from the source and it does 4.4% within 1cm from the surface of the cylinder. On the shielded side of the cylinder, the dose at the surface is reduced to about 20.4% of its value without the shield. The effective attenuation factor entered for the 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shielded cylinder was average 0.2 in a $\^$60/CO moving source. In comparision with the dose calculation mathods, the multiple-divided dose tables are difference less than ${\pm}$4.1% with measured data in a $\^$60/Co source.

  • We have designed and applied the calibrationmethod of $\^$90/Sr Ophthalmic Applicaton by measuring the electron currents. We considered the number of electrons which is emitted from the source, the area of the source, and the electron stopping power in the water, and those data were used for calculation. Film was used for evaluating the accurate source area. Average electron stopping power was obtained by analyzing ${\beta}$-ray energy spectrum. We compared between the result from our method and that from the TLD measurements. The calibration result from our method shows 63.3 ${\pm}$5.1 cGy/sec, while 50.7${\pm}$7.3 cGy/sec from TLD measurement. But the supplier's specification tells 46.89.4cGy/sec.

  • It is well known that assurance of the radiation therapy needs for an accuracy of $\pm$ 5 % in the delivery of an absorbed dose to target volume. Therefore, the dose evaluation of brachytherapy source and/or linear accelerate beam must be a stability with accuracy. In an advanced country, they recommended to use the radioactive check source for reference air ionization chamber for a stable response of radiation field chamber. In this experiments, the radioactive source Sr-90 and PR-05 air ionization chamber were used for standard source and reference ion chamber. The response of reference ion chamber showed as an 1.000$\pm$ 0.010 uncertainty for 10 years long and the evaliuation f dose discrepancy of clinical field ion chamber showed as 0.997 $\pm$0.011 in a $^{60}$ Co brachytherapy soruce. In our experiments, we can assuarance the long halflife standard source is reliable to preserve the calibration factor of reference chamber in stability.

  • It is necessarily to evaluate the energy of X-ray emitted from linear accelerator in order to determine the accurate absorbed dose. The method of direct measurement for x-ray energy is very difficult and impractical. Therefore the method of using beam quality index is generally used. Several dosimetry protocols recommend the use of quality indices such as depth of dose maximum at radiation central axis, dose gradient, and dose level. The linear accelerator manufactures follow the recommendation as dosimetry protocols. The study was performed for us to select the most suitable parameter among the Quality indices as described above. For photon beams of 4, 6, 10, 15, and 21 MV nominal energies produced by four kinds of accelerators(Mitsubishi, Scanditronix, Siemens, Varian) in eleven institutions, We evaluated the x-ray energies obtained by the Quality indices as recommended by several dosimetry protocols and manufactures. Results showed that there were energy spreads according to the same accelerators and Quality indices even though nominal energies were same. It appeared that the percent depth dose at 10 cm (D$_{10}$(%)) gave the smallest deviation and spread of energies. As energies increased, the energy deviation increased for all the quality indices. It is desirable for the use of unified quality index to compare the evaluation of beam quality at different institutions.

Some Biological Characteristics of Plum Sawfly Monocellicampa pruni (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) (자두수염잎벌(Monocellicampa pruni)의 생물학적 특성)

  • This study investigated the life history of the plum sawfly Monocellicampa pruni Wei, 1998 through field observations and laboratory experiments. M. pruni is a univoltine, complete metamorphosis species with five instars at the larval stage. Adults emerge from the soil around mid-March when Japanese plum trees are in their flowering period. The adults deposit one (rarely two) egg(s) under the epidermis layer of the calyx. After hatching, the larva soon burrows into the fruitlet, consumes the endocarp and remains inside the fruit within its four-time moulting transitions before reaching full growth. At maturity (in May), the larva leaves the infested fruitlet through an exit hole and burrows into the soil at a depth of 2 - 11 cm for spinning its cocoon and hibernates until the next spring as the larval form. Under laboratory conditions (T = 20℃; RH = 40 - 60%), the male lived for a slightly shorter period than the female, 6.03 ± 0.40 and 7.55 ± 0.45 days, respectively. A female could produce 30.29 ± 4.50 eggs in her lifespan. In the field, the duration of the egg was approximately 10 - 11 days and that of the larva was approximately 31 - 34 days.

Current Status of Ophthalmic Optometry Laboratory Personnel in Korea, Japan, and the United States (한국, 일본, 미국 안과검사인력의 현황)

  • The education and training system, the ISCO (International Standard Classification of Occupations), and the legal systems of Japan and the United States consider all ophthalmic optometry laboratory personnel as ophthalmologists. They encompass optometrists, orthoptists, optometric technicians, and ophthalmic medical technicians. Data retrieved from the KOSIS (Korean Statistical Information Service) revealed that the number of opticians associated with the department of ophthalmology in 2022 could be appraised by classifying their medical institutions; contrarily, the number of clinical laboratory technologists could not be assessed. However, the current research investigated a general tertiary hospital and determined that clinical laboratory technologists outnumber opticians. Classification in Korea is based on ophthalmic optometry laboratory personnel, ISCO, ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education), the medical service act, the act on medical service technologists, and the higher education act. These results cannot be compared to the optometrists evaluated in the United States. Ophthalmology is a suitable profession for optometric technologists and technicians who perform under the instructions of ophthalmologists and optometrists. The field of eye healthcare would be benefitted by assigning the management based on their qualification according to the requirement of the job title, such as 'Clinical Optometry Technologist' to be given to clinical laboratory technologists and opticians who work in the ophthalmic optometry laboratories after obtaining a private qualification endowed by the Korean Ophthalmological Society and the Korean Optometry Society.

  • 근래에 한국의 생명보험 시장에는 주요 질병의 보장을 위한 상품들이 연일 쏟아져 나오고 있다. 그러나 이와 함께 증가될 수 있는 리스크에 대한 대비는 상대적으로 부족한 실정이다. 특히 간질환에 의한 급부발생이 타질환에 비하여 현격하게 높은 국내 실정에 맞게 언더라이팅 초점이 맞추어져야 할 필요가 있다. 간질환 유발인자로 대표적인 것은 B형 간염이지만, 과다한 알코올 섭취에 의한 간질환 역시 매해 빠른 속도로 증가하는 추세이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 알코올에 의한 질환의 종류와 이와 관련된 보험금 청구 통계, 그리고 음주로 인한 교통사고의 폐해에 대해 살펴보고, 알코올 남용자를 사전에 판별할 방법을 찾아보고자 한다. 일반적으로 알려져 있는 알코올 관련 질환으로는 지방간, 알코올성 간염, 알코올성 간경변이 있으며, 이로 인한 급부발생율은 급격히 증가하고 있다. 음주로 인한 폐해는 단순히 간질환에 그치지 않고 있으며, 교통사고의 상당수가 음주와 관련이 되어있다. 이러한 리스크에 대해 국내의 상당수 보험사들은 혈액검사를 통하여 간기능에 대한 기준을 설정하여 언더라이팅을 하고 있다. 현재 주로 시행되고 있는 간기능 검사들에 대한 정확도에 대해서는 논란이 있을 수 있다. 따라서 보다 정밀한 검사법들에 대한 연구가 필요할 것이다. 외국의 경우, 보험을 가입하고자 하는 보험 대상자들은 직업이나 흡연, 위험 취미뿐만 아니라 알코올과 관련된 일정한 양식의 질문표에 대하여 성실하게 고지하도록 하고 있다. 국내에도 알코올과 관련된 자세한 고지항목을 첨부하여, 일정 기준에 미치지 못하는 가입자에 대하여 표준미달체로 분류하여 보다 정밀한 검진을 통해 세밀한 언더라이팅이 이루어져야 하겠다. 이와 아울러, 알코올로 인한 사회적 폐해의 심각성에 대한 인식 확대를 위한 각 보험사 및 유관기관의 노력이 전개된다면, 음주에 대한 진사 절차가 수월해질 것으로 기대된다.

The relationship between COVID-19 pandemic and mental health of dental hygienists (코로나19 유행과 치과위생사 정신건강의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between depression, anxiety, and COVID-19 with regard to dental hygienists. Methods: A questionnaire survey on depression and anxiety was conducted on 189 dental hygienists from dental hospitals and clinics in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area. Results: The overall prevalence of depression was 69.8% and that of anxiety was 53.4%. The aspect of depression was heavily influenced by past experience with COVID-19 related quarantine and contact with a confirmed patient. The prolonged pandemic was observed to have exerted a greater impact on depression and anxiety (p<0.05). Conclusions: Depression and anxiety seem to be related to COVID-19 related factors among dental hygienists. Dental hospitals and clinics should monitor the level of depression and anxiety of dental hygienists who are at an elevated risk of COVID-19.
