  • This study qualitatively examined the lives of non-tenured, secondary school teachers who are preparing for the teachers' exam. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with ten teachers and the data were analyzed using the consensual qualitative research method. Most of the participants had chosen a contract-based teaching position, believing that it would meet their financial needs, provide them with the satisfaction of being a teacher and, more importantly, afford practical help with their exam preparation. In practice, however, they suffered from low self-esteem and identity confusion due to discrimination by the school administrators. Ironically, this unfair treatment strengthened the participants' commitment to studying for the exam, in order to acquire a stable and secure position in school. However, they experienced a lot of study-related stress, including a lack of study hours, heavy study load, multiple life roles, physical exhaustion, the difficulties caused by the vague exam guide, and anxiety due to previous failure in the exam. Based on the findings of this study, directions for future research are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest educational directions by exploring the stories of changes and expectations experienced by Christian children during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, nine third- to fourth-grade elementary school children attending the church, were interviewed about their changes and expectations regarding COVID-19. The results identified five areas of experience: daily life changes, school life changes, interpersonal relationship changes, religious life changes, and emotional changes during the COVID-19 period. Daily changes included infection prevention, missing play, leisurely routine, and lethargy. Changes in school life included loss of face-to-face classes and various rule requirements. Interpersonal relationship changes included the difficulties in forming relationships with friends, teachers, parents, and siblings, and religious life changes included loss of face-to-face worship and the restoration of family worship. Various negative emotions were expressed. Analysis of the participants' expectations showed in daily life they wanted to travel and play, return to pre-corona school life, return to face-to-face worship, restore retreats, and develop fun programs as religious life expectations. Based on these children's experiences and wishes, the study suggests that educators need to recognize children's efforts during the COVID-19 period, read their hurt feelings, and develop church programs that include communication, community, and fun elements.

In order to accomplish the purpose of the research, the seven workers with volunteer experiences were asked a question, "What do volunteer activities means to them?" Data was collected through in-depth interview, recoded videotapes. In addition, the data was analyzed by a Colaizzi's content analysis. The findings showed that workers' volunteer activities were identified as 18 themes and 6 categories. The six categories consist of 'initiating an action', 'being close to people in need', 'experiencing the difficulties of the people in need', 'increase of awareness of fellowship', 'increase of stability at work', 'self-growth'. The meaning of workers' volunteer activity was defined as a process to get to know their neighbor within their social boundaries, and to gradually change their life.
