  • To High Throughput Screening (HTS), a homogeneous fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) was developed for the quantitative determination of ochratoxin A(OTA) using a $Victor^3$ (PerkinElmer). The homologous tracer, fluorescein-labelled OTA-EDF were synthesized and a specific OTA antibody has been used in the development of the method. It allowed the determination of OTA in the concentration range 0.5-200 ng/ml, with the detection limit of 0.3 ng/ml. The method developed was highly specific and reproducible. OTA spikes in unpolished rice extracts were determinable by FPIA with good recovery. For naturally contaminated unpolished rice samples some disagreement was observed between the results obtained by FPIA and HPLC, which could be related to the a little matrix effect observed for FPIA. Further research is needed to validate the procedure. On the basis of these initial results, this FPIA appears to meet the performance criteria for OTA screening of food samples without a complicated clean-up.

  • Weathered foliation could act as a critical failure plane because this type of plane tend to have low roughness and long extensions. A big constructed slope at $\bigcirc\bigcirc$ road construction site was failed due to the block movement along a fault zone which is parallel to foliation. Tectonic activity reactivated a fault zone parallel to foliation, and the fault clay within the shear zone metamorphosed retrogressively to chrolite. The failed block moved when the block weigh lost the balancing with the resisting force of the retrogressively metamorphosed chrolite. Evaluating the three dimensional distribution of the foliation was critical for establishing a plan for the stabilization of the slope. For this purpose, 10 boreholes were drilled as a lattice distribution, and the BIPS analyses are performed at each boreholes. The fractures measured in the boreholes are projected into 15 cross sections and their distributions are analysed, using Fracjection software. The projection analyse show that the strike of the foliation gets dipper towards left side of the slope. This geometry indicates that there are more failure block geometry at left side of the slope. Potential failure planes are searched using the projection method, and these information are provided for further support design.

  • Soil tests are generally conducted using a membrane to measure a pore water pressure. However, it has also been recognized that the membrane penetrates into the specimen by the change of the confining pressure, and it results in the erroneous measurement in the pore water pressure and the volumetric strain. This study examined the effectiveness of the correction equation of the membrane penetration on the basis of the experimental data acquired during the isotropic unloading and the cyclic shear process using the hollow cylindrical shear test equipment. The results showed that the membrane penetration by the correction equation could be overestimated when the mean effective stress was lower than 20kPa in this study. The limitations originated from the sudden increase near the zero effective stress, and in order to prevent the overestimation in low effective stress condition, the use of the constant a was proposed in this study. Furthermore, the correction equation for the membrane penetration had to be applied carefully when the initial relative density was high and the density changes were occurred by the relocation of the soil particle by the liquefaction.

  • We performed an experiment to confirm the possibility of wasabi culture using the water of the Soyang River Dam in Chunchon and the ground water in Suwon. Water mineral content of Soyang River except for P was less than that of ground water of Suwon. Dissolved oxgen and E C of Chunchon was proper to culture wasabi but E C and dissolved oxgen of Suwon was not suitable for that. Water temp. of Soyang river was very changable by month while that of the ground water in Suwon was kept constantly. In Soyang river of Chunchon the month that water temp. show $8{\sim}18^{\circ}C$, optimal growth temp., was May to Nov. and the month that water temp. show less than $6^{\circ}C$, growth limit temp., was $Jan.\;{\sim}\;Feb.$ of Chunchon. Rhizome weight of main stem in Chunchon and Suwon was 63g and 22g per plant and rate of maketable rhizome was each 80%, 0% by culture of 32 months to include raising seedling period of 13 months. Dry matter partitioning ratio of petiole in Soyang river of Chunchon was the highest of all others but it was lowest of all others in ground water of Suwon. Rhizome weight of main stem in Chunchon was showed possitive correlation with plant height and fresh top weight and in Suwon it was showed possitive correlation with root weight and high possitive correlation with No. of total leaves and No. of tillers.

  • The tidal creek dependent mass transport characteristic in Gyeong-Gi Bay (west coast of Korea) was studied using field measured data and numerical model. Gyeong-Gi Bay consists of 3 main tidal channels and contains a well-developed vast tidal flat. This region is famous for its large tidal difference and strong current. We aim to study the effect of tidal creek in the tidal flat on the mass exchange between the estuary and the ocean. For numerical application, the application of unstructured grid feature is essential, since the tidal creek has complicated shape and form. For this purpose, the FVCOM is applied to the study area and simulation is performed for 2 different cases. In case A, geographic characteristics of the tidal creek is ignored in the numerical grid and in case B, the tidal creek are constructed using unstructured grid. And these 2 cases are compared with the field measured cross-channel mass transport data. The cross-channel mass transport at the Yeomha waterway mouth and Incheon harbor was measured in June, 9~10 (Spring tide) and 17~18 (Neap tide), 2009. CTD casting and ADCP cross-channel transect was conducted 13 times in one tidal cycle. The observation data analysis results showed that mass transport has characteristic of the ebb dominance Line 1 (Yeomha waterway mouth), on the other hand, a flood dominant characteristic is shown in Line 2 (Incheon harbor front). By comparing the numerical model (case A & B) with observation data, we found that the case B results show much better agreement with measurement data than case A. It is showed that the geographic feature of tidal creek should be considered in grid design of numerical model in order to understand the mass transport characteristics over large tidal flat area.

  • Purpose: This study was to evaluate the wear resistance of 3D printed, milled, and conventionally cured provisional resin materials. Materials and methods: Four types of resin materials made with different methods were examined: Stereolithography apparatus (SLA) 3D printed resin (S3P), digital light processing (DLP) 3D printed resin (D3P), milled resin (MIL), conventionally self-cured resin (CON). In the 3D printed resin specimens, the build orientation and layer thickness were set to $0^{\circ}$ and $100{\mu}m$, respectively. The specimens were tested in a 2-axis chewing simulator with the steatite as the antagonist under thermocycling condition (5 kg, 30,000 cycles, 0.8 Hz, $5^{\circ}C/55^{\circ}C$). Wear losses of the specimens were calculated using CAD software and scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to investigate wear surface of the specimens. Statistical significance was determined using One-way ANOVA and Dunnett T3 analysis (${\alpha}=.05$). Results: Wear losses of the S3P, D3P, and MIL groups significantly smaller than those of the CON group (P < .05). There was no significant difference among S3P, D3P, and MIL group (P > .05). In the SEM observations, in the S3P and D3P groups, vertical cracks were observed in the sliding direction of the antagonist. In the MIL group, there was an overall uniform wear surface, whereas in the CON group, a distinct wear track and numerous bubbles were observed. Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, provisional resin materials made with 3D printing show adequate wear resistance for applications in dentistry.

  • The energy savings and $CO_2$ emission reductions obtainable from the situation that the Smart Grid system (SGs) is assumed to be applied in Korea up to 2030 is quantitatively analyzed with many reported data. For calculation, SGs is divided into five sectors such as Smart Transmission and Distribution (ST&D), Smart Consumer (SC), Smart Electricity Service (SES), Smart Renewable Energy (SRE) and Smart Transportation (ST). Total annual energy savings in 2030 is estimated to be approximately 103,121 GWh and this is 13.1% of total electricity consumption outlook. Based on this value, total amount of reducible $CO_2$ emissions is calculated to 55.38 million $tCO_2$, which is 17.6% of total nation's GHG reduction target. Although the contribution of energy saving due to SGs to total electricity consumption increases as years go by, that of $CO_2$ emission reduction gradually decreases. This might be because that coal fired based power generation is planned to be sharply increased and the rate of $CO_2$ emission reduction scheduled by nation is very fast. The contributable portion of five each sector to total $CO_2$ emission reductions in 2030 is estimated to be 44.37% for SC, 29.16% for SRE, 20.12% for SES, 5.11% for ST&D, and 1.24% for ST.
